Esmeralda
Dashing out of the room as fast as my slender legs could carry, I couldn’t stop the tears that poured freely from my eyes, threatening to blind my vision.
Why was he mad?
What did I do wrong?
He wouldn’t even let me explain.
Why was he always complicated? What is wrong with him?
For a few seconds, I thought it was all a joke. I thought his scrunched-up face would soften and be filled with soft smiles while he told me that it was a prank. But not until I saw a bright ring forming in his eyes.
Unusual.
My eyes widened and a muffled scream tore off my mouth as his large dark eyeballs glared angrily at me, causing every air on my back to stand erect.
A terrifying growl from him sent my back against the hard wall of his room, making me crash to the floor, lifelessly, like a pack of cards.
My heart raced at an unusual pace, threatening to jump out of my little chest as he proceeded nearer and nearer to where I sat, violently shaking in fear.
The sight was scary. He was scary.
As scary as he had been rumoured.
This wasn’t my mate at all. This was a demon!
“Get out!” He had roared. His voice shook the room to its core, and his hands slammed things to the wall, throwing them in different directions, and making my head spin.
A quick duck saved my head from colliding with a flying mug.
The effect of his voice made my ears ring, filling my head with pain, and making me clasp my hands around my ears.
I had risked looking into his eyes, but I was met with a terrifying glare. Those sexy gemstone green eyes that turned me on were brightened with raw rage as they were locked on mine, pinning me to the wall, and making my blood run cold.
His large fists were curled up in balls as he approached me, breathing hard and fast like he was about to devour me.
Get out!
But I couldn’t as I was crippled with fear. For some strange reason, I laid lifelessly on the floor, energy drained.
Run, Esmeralda!
My mind told me, but my legs couldn’t comprehend.
I had to leave. He was going to do something terrible! The darkened eyeballs that gave no traces of his sclera confirmed it.
Run!
I took a deep breath, before scurrying off the cold floor, and dashing out of his room.
Despite running a reasonable amount of distance, his loud growls were still heard followed by a crashing sound.
He was destroying things.
What was wrong with him?
What was wrong with my outfit? What was wrong with the room I stayed in? He was the one who told me to make myself comfortable. Why was he mad?
Images of his face flashed in my head as I made my way out of his quarters.
Despite the boiling anger in his eyes, I caught the view of fear, pain and hatred.
What was he scared about?
Why does he look hurt?
What was he so afraid of?
And why was it tied to my room and my outfit?
Hatred?
His hatred for me was an open secret that didn’t bother me, but I felt its impact today.
The bitter taste of hatred burned at the back of my throat as I watched my mate turn red before me.
The pain. It hurt badly.
I don’t think I like it here anymore.
I don’t think I can cope with the cold shoulder he threw at me.
I wanted to run away, far away from the Blood Moon Pack and their psycho Alpha.
At least, for my sanity to be intact.
People testified that finding your mate was the best thing to ever happen to a wolf.
But mine was the worst! Accompanied by terrible incidents that made my mate even hate me more than ever.
Hatred.
It accompanied me and clung to me like a second skin wherever I went.
Even if I didn’t know why Alpha Kade hated me, I knew he had his reasons.
Why was everything about me always different?
I hate that everything about me is different. Negatively different.
What was my offence to the Moon goddess?
What did I do that made her give me a bad life and mate me with a psycho?
I hate this Pack!
I hate Alpha Kade and his stupid Beta!
I hate my life!
Muttering curses as I wiped the tears that trickled down my eyes, I made my way across the hallway.
The dreaded hallway harboured bad experiences for me.
I hoped this time, I didn’t bump into anybody that wanted to take my life.
Maybe I should. I didn’t care again if my life was taken from me this instant. Right now, I am tired of it.
I didn’t even care if Phoebe comes with her shining silver chain to torture me. I won’t struggle anymore.
I was done with struggling.
Stop running, Esmeralda. I tried to force my legs to halt but they acted the opposite.
They threw themselves on the expensive marble tiles on the floor, finding solace in a safe place. Safe from Alpha Kade and his raging demons.
You’ll be fine, Esmeralda.
No!
I wasn’t and I was certain I would never be.
My mind was made up. I was leaving this place, this Pack once and for all. On the second night, I will leave with Selene, never to return.
Fuck Alpha Kade and the stupid mate bond, I didn’t care anymore.
I would definitely miss Jade and Madam Dora but I wanted my happiness.
The pain in my heart was too much to bear.
Blinded by tears, I continued running in the dark hallway, finding my way all alone without caring where I was.
I didn’t even know where I was. It was less of my concern.
A loud curse flew from my mouth as I collided with a wall. No, a door. A huge black door that could pass for a wall. Its shiny door knob confirmed it.
Still nursing my bruised head, I let my gaze travel on the length and breadth of the huge door, admiring its enormously. Despite being covered in dust and cobwebs, it still stood out and screamed expensive.
Then it clicked on me.
The door was familiar.
The North wing.
I was standing before the door of the North wing.
The wing Alpha Kade warned me never to wander into.
The wing that brought bad memories to Jade.
There is something about this wing and I would love to explore it.
Wiping my tears with the back of my palm, I stood before the door. My pain was now forgotten.
Steadily, my trembling hands rose and laid on its flat hard surface, carefully rubbing it. But I quickly withdrew my hands, putting them behind my back as I turned to look behind me.
Luckily, I was the only one in the room.
Giving the door one last look, I turned away from it, refusing to give in to my raging urge.
I didn’t want to get into trouble.
I didn’t want to disobey Alpha Kade’s order.
“Second rule, stay away from the North wing…”
It was like I could hear his warning loud and clear as they rang in my ear, refraining me from going further into the room, and reminding me of the consequences if I ignored them. But I shrugged my shoulders, giving in to the exploration side of me.
It was just a wing. Nothing more.
“Second rule, stay away from the North wing…” His warning flooded my head again as if reminding me of his punishment.
My tongue flicked in annoyance.
Why should I listen to him when he doesn’t listen to me?
I was his mate and I deserved to be respected irrespective of my status. But the reverse was the case.
Taking in calming breaths, I braced myself for the journey ahead.
But what if Alpha Kade sees me?
What if Jade or Madam Dora sees me?
Worse of all, Vanessa?
No.
Nothing was going to stop me.
Taking a deep breath, I wiped my tear-stained cheeks with the back of my hand, “Let’s do this. I,” I muttered, stealing one look behind me before throwing caution into the winds and turning the door knob.
It wasn’t locked!
Wow!
If something valuable was in there, it would have been locked.
“Because it brings bad memories,” Jade’s words flew into my head, almost discouraging me.
There were no bad memories. I shrugged my shoulders, opening the door a little wider to accommodate my small frame.
A creek sound from it made me jump in fear, but I hurriedly disappeared into the wing before anyone noticed.
Darkness.
Darkness enveloped the room. And so was fear.
They accompanied me as I began this new phase of exploration, making me almost regret my decision. I should have come with a flashlight.
Now wasn’t the time for regrets, Esmeralda. I said, summoning bravery.
I hope Phoebe won’t find this time to haunt me. As I would be dead and forgotten as no one ever visits here.
Switching to my wolf’s vision, I tried to make out things in the room but it was futile, reminding me how weak I was.
Ignoring the darkness, I made my way into the wing, like a blind man, navigating his way.
My breath hitched when my hands came in contact with a table, I was sure it was a table.
I ran my hand on it before passing by the table and going further into the room, but an insect jumped on my face, making me slap my face in vain as I tried to get the spider off, but my dusty hands triggered my nose and I sneezed violently.
I hope that wasn’t so loud.
Tiptoeing into the darkness, I passed by objects that could pass for a chair, and large cushions that sat on the dusty floor, but the sound of chains made me miss my step and crash on the floor.
Suddenly, a jerking chain sound filled the room. The chains were jerking loudly and so were the mummering.
Someone was here.
But who? Who did Alpha Kade lock up in here?
Why was this place filled with many mysteries?
I wasn’t ready for this.
This was getting scary.
I turned my back at once, going in the direction of the door, crashing on many items, before my hands felt the familiar door once again.
Relief coursed through me as my hand touched the door knob.
“Help me,” A faint voice whispered into the air, making me jump in fear and dash out of the room
Who was that?
