Phoebe
Taken aback by her words, a dazed look of bewilderment crossed my face, my eyes darted around as if looking for answers.
“Kill the firstborn to become the firstborn?” I repeated, pinning my gaze on her for clarification.
A smile spread across her face, washing away my doubts, “Yes, darling. You mentioned that it was hereditary. Also, know that it can be transferred from one person to another if the person in possession of the power is dead. Since your half-sister is the firstborn, you can get rid of her, and when you do so, you become the firstborn and… boom! Your powers will begin to manifest. Your hair will be in a beautiful shade of strawberry,” Her long thin hands ran through my caramel-coloured hair.
“Just like that?” A surprised look swept across my face, leaving my eyes widening with imagination.
“Yes, just like that,” Her smile grew wider as she cupped my face in her hand.
Considering how gullible she was, killing her was an easy task.
I couldn’t wait.
“But you must be careful,” Her warning echoes throughout the room, filling me with uneasiness.
What now?
“Killing the firstborn is not easy considering the powers at her disposal,”
“I bet she doesn’t know she has powers. She is as ignorant as fuck,” I added.
“She might not know how, but if she senses danger, those powers would manifest prematurely. And it could result in your death because she doesn’t know how to use it or control it. You really have to be careful,”
“Be extra careful. She has to be weak, and gullible for you to have control over her. Don’t rush,” Her hand found my chest, rubbing it in an attempt to calm my nerves.
“You are breathing too fast, that concoction will choke you,” She warned, pointing at a large cauldron that sat on fire. Its steams filled the air, just like my anger and impatience did.
Taking a deep breath to avoid being suffocated by her concoction, a look of helplessness flushed on my face, “What do you want me to do?” My hands flared in the air, before dropping beside my lap.
“Take it slow, make her love you, make friends with her and when you have gained her trust… show time! You can take her then,” She said, bursting into a series of laughter afterwards.
“Oh, Sabrina, what will I do without you,” My arm extended in an embrace.
“That is not all. To be able to kill the powerful one, you must satisfy your heart desires,” She snaked her hand to my chest and tapped it, “What are your heart desires, darling?” Her eyes searched nine for answers.
I shut my eyes, swallowing excessively and clenching my jaws in anger, “To have my father dead for betraying me. For lying to me for years,” I paused, stopping myself from being emotional, “I want her mother dead too, for birthing that bitch. My life would have been easier without her,”
“Then you must do it. Do it before you kill her,” She said with spite in her voice.
Happiness spread in me, reviving my dull spirit.
I made the right choice coming here!
Disappearing into the darkness, Sabrina’s hands scratched everywhere, like she was searching for something, her claws dug into every nook and cranny of the room.
Switching to my wolf vision to have a clearer view of the room, but making things out was difficult as I was engulfed in darkness.
Sabrina liked her room, dark.
As dark as her heart.
She didn’t like to expose the interior of her room. No one had seen what it looked like. No one, except her sister.
The scratching stopped, followed by a brief silence.
“Stretch out your hands,” She ordered.
A gasp escaped my lips when her hands found mine in the darkness, with her long nails brushing my skin.
Silence reigned in the air briefly before her chants and spells took over, making objects fly around in the violent wind’s direction.
After minutes of chanting, her voice stopped and so was the wind. Silence took over again.
“Here, have these chains, they are silver,” She said, stretching shiny silver chains to me.
I flinched, hitting my head on a pot of herbs, “Silver chains are dangerous to wolves, do you want me killed?” My chest heaved in anger.
What kind of joke was this?
“It is spelled. It will do nothing to you because your blood is sealed with it,”
With shaky hands, I took the chain from her and to my greatest relief, it didn’t burn.
“With these chains, you will bound her with it. Even in your absence, your presence will haunt her, and if you are lucky enough, you can have her killed, but remember the heart is your target. To possess her powers, crush her heart, for the powers lies in her heart,”
I beamed in excitement, “I like that sound,”
“You know this flower?” She asked, a flower dangling in front of my face.
I muffled a scream at the sight of the flower, “Wolfsbane?!”
Her burst of laughter sent me into a state of confusion, “It won’t hurt you. It is also spelled to conceal its scent. Have these gloves,” She pressed a thick long glove into my hand.
“Have her sniff that nice little flower. The sniff of death,” Her cold voice filled the room, sending chills to my bones.
Anxiety and confusion swept away the excitement brewing in me.
What was Sabrina up to?
Why was she being strangely nice?
I cleared my throat, meeting her eyes, “What do you want in exchange for this? Stop acting nice when it’s only evil you are capable of,”
Sabrina’s sigh filled the air in frustration, “Is there a problem in helping an old friend that once saved my life? I am returning the favour by giving you your life back after it was stolen by someone. I know how painful it is to have your life taken from you,”
“Don’t thank me,” She added, leaving a series of chuckles flying from my mouth.
“I will still thank you for your help. I would have taken the wrong step and failed if it weren’t for you,” I held her hand in appreciation, remembering how she hated hugs.
“You have to go now, it’s dawn and it’s not safe in the woods anymore. I will have you teleported back to your room,” Her hand ran down my cheeks, giving them a soft squeeze, “Till we meet again, Phoebe. Enjoy your new life,”
“I will come to see you when everything is settled,”
“Maybe. But you won’t need me anymore. You will seek for a greater witch, greater than I am,”
A scoff rolled off my lips, “Is there any witch greater than you are?”
“Oh, Phoebe. Stop the flattering,” Her soft voice turned cold, “You must go. Farewell, Phoebe. Till we meet again,”
A whirlwind spun rapidly around the house, carrying me before I could wave to Sabrina, whose face was obscured by this raging wind. And in a blink of an eye, I was thrown on a bed, a soft bed.
My head throbbed as I scanned the familiar room.
My room.
I hurriedly hid the items in my closet.
Dashing out of my room as my father called my name, I was met with a search party.
Esmeralda and my father.
My blood boiled in anger as invincible flames oozed from my body at their sight.
Betrayers!
“Phoebe,” My father called, running toward me, “Where have you been? I’ve been combing the house for you,” He asked worriedly.
Hypocrite!
“Oh, sorry about that, I was in the bathroom, taking a shower,” I lied, my gaze shifting to Esmeralda.
“Okay. Thank goodness that you are safe. In the meantime, I am going to a meeting. I will be back soon. Take care of yourself and your sister,”
Making sure my dad had left the house to a reasonable distance, I made my way to the living room, where my sister sat, making herself comfortable in front of the television that hung on the wall.
“Hello,” My presence startled her, making her breath hitch.
Yes. Fear me.
“Hy, sis,” I waved, giving her my sweetest smile, “Are you free?”
A wave of uncertainty swept upon her face, “Uhm, yes,” She shifted uncomfortably, watching me keenly.
“I am free too. It’s a coincidence, “I burst into a burst of brief laughter, “I just want to apologize about what happened earlier. I am sorry for the outburst, if you were in my shoes, you would understand my feelings. I want to be a better sister now,” I explained sincerely, maintaining eye contact with her.
I watched a smile spring on her face, “It’s okay. I’m happy to hear that. Thank you for accepting me,” She engulfed me in a hug, making me stiffen under her touch.
“Come on,” I released myself from her grip, irritated by her hug, “Let me show you around this Pack and tell you its history,”
“That sounds cool,” She beamed in excitement, grinning from ear to ear.
“And flowers, would you like to see beautiful flowers? The Pack has many of them,” I said, A sly smile playing on my face.
“Let’s go,”
