Phoebe
My eyes bulged, almost popping out of their sockets and a loud gasp escaped from my lips as a thundering voice echoed from the top of the mountain, vibrating the woods and shaking the trees to their roots.
Shapeshifting into my wolf form, I ran up the mountain for easy movement. Climbing the mountain in my human form would be a waste of time.
Once I got to the top, I fell on my face as a bright light shone in my direction.
“Arise and follow me,” A voice said, snapping me out of my thoughts.
I couldn’t miss the scorn laced in her voice. It was so obvious, I could taste it.
Could she be…
No!
Sabrina could shapeshift into many things, but shapeshifting into this ugly bitch was the last thing she would do.
Following her lead, as we took long strides to the top of the mountain that looked like a big town, I couldn’t help but notice some witches pinning me with a scornful glare. Their eyes bored holes behind my back as I made my way into their midst.
The hate was obvious. It was never going to stop.
And the reason for the hatred.
My kind banished them permanently.
I hoped Sabrina would look past the hatred and help her long-time friend.
“Wait here,” She instructed, leaving me before a huge wall.
Great!
“How am I supposed to get past this wall?” I asked, scoffing slightly.
“You have claws, you can start scratching since you didn’t hear the simple instruction I gave,” She sneered, hissing loudly before walking away from me.
Bitch!
If it weren’t for Sabrina, I would have ripped your throat out!
Suppressing my anger by taking deep breaths at intervals as I tried to forget about the bitch that almost ruined my mood.
“Focus on the bright side, Esme. Ignore that ugly witch,” Cruella filled my head, consoling me.
Yes. Focus on the bright side.
The bitch doesn’t worth it
A crack in the wall jolted me from my long train of thoughts. Lifting my eyes to see what it was, I was met with a splitting wall, and the familiar bright light shining within it.
Lifting my hands to shield my face from the bright light, I watched as it transformed into a figure.
Into her. Sabrina!
“What brings you here, Phoebe,” Her deep voice resonated throughout the dark room we strode in. Her voice was deeper than I remembered.
“Good to see you too,” My brows arched in worry, seeing how distant she was.
She wasn’t even acknowledging me. Her friend.
“I see you have gotten my gift,” I said, trying to start up a conversation with her.
“The blood to be specific. The offering was thrash,” She blurted, hurting my feelings.
“Why so cold? What happened to giving me a warm reception?” I whined, unable to hold the hurtful feeling.
“Coming from a girl as cold as ice. I am a witch, I don’t do warm receptions. Besides, things have changed,” She sat on a black couch, with a black cat purring beside her.
What was I expecting from the mistress of evil? A warm hug?
“I ask again, Phoebe, what brings you here?” She rose to meet me, her voice louder and angrier than before.
“I came to see my old friend. Is that too much?” I swallowed the disgusted feeling burning in my throat, “Look, I know that you are still mad at what my Pack is for you and your followers, but…”
“What you seek in your heart is greater than you think,” She interrupted, making me look at her in shock, “I do not know if you have the guts to embark on this dangerous journey, because it will be really tough. Tougher than you think,” Her cold voice ended in a whisper, filling the air with suspense.
“You know me, Sabrina. I like tough,” My voice hardened.
“You don’t understand, Phoebe,” Her hand hit her head in frustration.
“I understand everything. The consequences, and the challenges, but I am looking at the bright side. The reward!” My chest heaved as those words flew out of my mouth.
“That is not it, the reason you came here is because of a person, a powerful person. I don’t know, but I feel you should steer clear of her. Let her be. From the look of things from my angle, she wasn’t at fault. It was someone else’s mistake. She is too powerful to be with. Just leave her alone…”
“And let her get away with my powers?”Anger flashed through my eyes as Sabrina’s irritating words hit me, “It is my powers, not hers,” My voice raised in rage, “I was fine, I was happy until she came into the picture, taking what is mine. You expect me to be fine with that?” My fingers darted in her direction as I poured my anger on her.
“Don’t get me wrong, Phoebe. I am just warning you against the danger ahead. Once you start this journey, backing off will be late. I know how badly you want your powers, I remembered how you talked of them once you were a child, but, it’s unfortunate that someone else has it, not you,”
“So what are you insinuating?”
A long weary sigh escaped her lips, “This journey started with rage. And that rage is a deadly one. It consumes you, filling your heart with darkness and revenge. And I’m afraid, you might never get out of it,”
“Coming here was a mistake,” I hissed loudly at her annoyingly long words.
I thought she was the cruellest of them all, why the pity?
I never asked for anyone’s pity.
I shouldn’t have come.
“Will you help me or not?” My hostile voice thundered as molten anger rolled through me like lava.
Understanding her long silence, I turned, walking out of the room through the door.
“I will help you,”
I halted, frozen by the magical words.
A smile spread on my face as relief washed through me.
Turning to meet her standing in her glory, her blazing eyes like fire lightened the room, giving me a view of it. Her overflowing black gown spread, forming a large circle around her and an evil smile was plastered on her lips.
“Sorry about that. I wasn’t the one talking,” She drew closer to me.
Confusion hit me like a ton of bricks.
Who was?
“I don’t understand you,”
“My sister was. You know, every twenty-five years, powerful twins merge and only the toughest survive,” Her hand gripped her staff tighter, “I got my sister’s empathy and some of her magic. That stupid emotion is driving me nuts,” Her fist clenched into a ball and a scream escaped from her lips.
“It’s good to see you, Phoebe. Have a seat,”
Satisfied by the warm reception, my muscles relaxed.
This is more like Sabrina.
“I am not here to sit, Sabrina. Just get to it,” I said impatiently, “I was supposed to have a strawberry-coloured wolf because I thought I was the firstborn and only firstborns of the Harpers family inherit that strong magic. But I got a useless one. The one without magic. Turns out my father had a child before finding his mate, my mother,” I paused, taking a deep breath as my voice was almost seized in anger.
“She is back. And she is the one with the magic, not me. I need your help, Sabrina. I want what’s mine. I want to be in my shoes,”
“Fine. Then there is only one way,” She whispered, filling the air with tension. Her eyes darkened in rage as she stared into a crystal ball, clenching her jaws, “How unfortunate of her,”
“It going to be tough, but you have to do it,”
“I will do anything to have my powers back,” I cried in desperation. Praying silently to the Moon goddess for help.
“Kill the firstborn to become the firstborn. With that, you will have your powers!”
