“Alpha Kade sister’s room?” Selene and I chorused in unison. Disbelief and shock spread on our faces like wildfire.
Chills coursed through my veins as the news filled me with shock, but only temporary.
Mentally tapping my forehead in remembrance a sigh escaped my lips. Jade had once told me about Alpha Kade having a sister while we were in the garden, picking flowers. Why would I forget that so quickly?
Even if I forget other things, I shouldn’t forget important stuff about my mate.
Mate?
I scoffed inwardly, amused at my stupidity… or should I say gullibility.
A while ago I planned on dumping his ass because of how he mistreated me, but now I had forgotten so easily, wanting to be close to him, to know more about him. His past.
I should be hating him. I should let him go. He wasn’t my status.
I should get used to the fact that he didn’t want me and he wouldn’t accept me for who I was, his mate. Not in this life, not in the next… not ever.
Although I act like I don’t care, but deep down, I do. I wanted his love, his care, I wanted him to shower his affection on me and treat me like his queen.
Phew!
It wasn’t my fault that I had a weak heart and wouldn’t stop thinking about him.
A heart that wouldn’t stop loving even in difficult times, a heart that wouldn’t give up on love, even when mistreated.
Deep down, I cringed at the idea of running away. I wanted to stay. To fight for his love.
I want him to crave for me, like an addict craves for his wild addiction.
I want him to want me.
Was that too much to ask?!
“Alpha Kade has a sister?” Selene’s voice rang, stinging my ears at once and pulling me out of my fantasy.
My eyes landed on Jade, giving her a knowing look, “The dandelion lover?”
What was her name again?
Amelia? Yes, Amelia.
Horror filled Jade’s eyes as a frown descended on her face, “It was supposed to be a secret!” She half-screamed, her hands thrown in the air in frustration.
But behind the horrid look, was an emotion… so strong.
Jade was quick to hide her horrid expression over me, accidentally spilling the secret she shared with me, but she was not quick to hide the hurt that lingered in her eyes.
The hurt… so primal, I could taste it.
It stung her eyes, threatening to make her spill tears.
Something in me told me she didn’t like to remember that memory, so did Alpha Kade.
It was a bad memory that they shared. But what was it?
Amelia must have a great impact in their lives.
“As much as I am sorry about that, you can trust Selene. Trust me, she keeps secrets better than I do,” I said, giving her an apologetic look.
Selene’s loud scoffs interrupted, “So you knew about his sister? Your ma… I mean, Alpha Kade’s sister? If you did, why did you act surprised?” Her tilted head rose to meet mine and her bright green eyes shone on mine, demanding answers.
Phew!
That was a close one on keeping secrets.
I hope Selene doesn’t accidentally expose my identity one day.
“Trust me, I was also surprised that I was surprised. It slipped my mind for a second,” A chuckle rolled off my lips, amused at my choice of words.
“Hmm,” Selene’s narrowed gaze didn’t leave mine.
A frown descended on my face as I recognized the look.
I knew that look. She wasn’t satisfied. She wanted more.
“What?” I asked, ignoring the stir of emotions in her eyes.
“So you are keeping things from me? Your best friend? Seriously? When did this start?”
A weary sigh escaped my lips as I gave Selene a puppy face, “As Jade said, it was supposed to be a secret. I accidentally spilled it,” I gritted between my teeth.
“You will keep that as a secret,” Jade cut in, turning I Selene in a stern voice.
“But I don’t even know what you are talking about. Who is the dandelion lover?” Selene asked, her eyes dancing between Jade and I.
“Kade’s sister, but you will keep it a secret,”
“You have my word,” Selene smiled assuredly, earning a sigh of relief from Jade.
I bit my lips, shooting Jade a nervous look.
I wanted more answers.
“So now that Selene already knows that Alpha Kade’s sister was a dandelion lover, tell us, is she the owner of this room?”
Jade’s face betrayed several emotions which I could sense.
Her eyes, they blinked severally, struggling to fight back tears. Her lips trembled with unspoken words and her curled fist tightened as her fingers dug into her flesh.
Why did a simple question from her cause her to tremble?
What was it about Alpha Kade that made her sad?
“Is it her? Is it Amelia?” I asked impatiently, fighting the urge to shake Jade.
“It’s not,” She sighed at her confession, burying her head in her palm.
Selene’s eyes darted from mine to meet Jade, “Still baffles me that Alpha Kade has a sister,”
Me too.
He had a sister.
A sister?
If this room belonged to Alpha Kade’s sister and it was not Amelia, does it mean he had another sister?
I swallowed the lump in my throat, “If she isn’t Amelia, then who is she?”
Tension hung in the air as all eyes met Jade who was lost in her own world.
“I shouldn’t be doing this…” She muttered, biting her lips nervously.
“Doing what?”
“Telling you this. I am not in the place to tell you about Alpha Kade’s past but I know you won’t make me regret it,” Jade’s large eyes met ours, pleading to keep her secret safe.
“We won’t,” We assured in unison.
Selene was unusually excited at Jade’s new confession. I could feel it.
I should have known. Typical Selene had a knack for gists.
“This is his second sister’s room, Ava,”
“He has two sisters?” My eyes grew wide.
She swallowed, “Yes, she is a lover of pink, anything in pink and this is her room. But you wore her dress. Alpha Kade’s outburst was because he saw you in the dress he bought for her. You were not supposed to be in that dress. You are not supposed to be in this room. I should have told you but I forgot. You resurrected those memories by wearing the dress. The memories he long to forget. You have to leave this room before he does something irrational,” Jade said, feeling me with dread.
So that was the reason for his outburst?
I felt bad for Alpha Kade. Losing a loved one can be really painful.
So painful that can leave the vacuum in your heart opened, forever with nothing to fill it.
“Where is Ava?”
Silence.
Dead silence enveloped the room as it became tense.
“I’m afraid, long dead,”
