Esmeralda
I yawned tiredly, stretching my hands and legs till I heard a crack sound that filled my satisfaction. I fluttered my eyes open, squinting and shielding them from the brightness of the sun that seeped through the curtain, illuminating the room.
My gaze met Selene’s small frame that laid on the floor beside me. Almost giving in to the urge that wanted me to wake her, I withdrew my hands, allowing her to enjoy her slumber.
Lifting my eyes from the cold dark floor, I was greeted with the most luxurious room.
“Woah,” I gasped, feeding my curious eyes with the beautiful interiors of the room.
I remembered running into this room out of anger the previous night, and it turned out I made the best decision.
The room was covered in shades of pink that ran from the top of the high walls to the bottom. A huge pink bed with pink pillows and duvet sat at the centre of the room. The bed was neatly arranged and dust free. I could swear that someone slept there.
A small pink table was positioned in front of the bed with a flower pot filled with a bouquet of black rose.
Black rose? Strange.
A huge pink chandelier hung from the ceiling, reflecting pink glitters around the room as the sun reflected on it.
Even the chandeliers were not left out? Weird.
A huge pink dresser with a large mirror rested on the wall as skincare products, make up kits and essential oils were littered on it.
A pink halfmoon flower pot stand stood beside the curtain with water-filled flower pots and almost withering pink rose in it.
No doubt it seems the owner of the room was a lover of fresh flowers. Especially Rose.
I walked toward the closed pink curtains, yanking them apart, before opening the windows, allowing fresh air to find its way into the room.
Much better.
Outside the window was a beautiful garden on display with a fountain erected in the middle. Plethora of flowers scattered around the garden as they laid abreast of each other, making it appear colourful.
Standing in front of me was a pink door, begging me to open it, but I withdrew my hands.
What if the owner of the room was there?
What if I was trespassing?
What if I was about to break a rule?
Throwing caution to the winds, I flung the door open, eager to see what it concealed.
Right before me was a modern bathroom, covered in pink.
What was this person’s obsession with pink?!
At least, it was the only room that was free from black.
The bathroom was covered in pink flooring with shelves containing shampoos and body wash on it.
Pink towels were neatly folded on the table, except for one that was placed on the bathtub. A huge glass wall housed the shower, while the bathtub sat at the extreme of the bathroom.
A round mirror hung on the wall with bright golden lights resting by the side, making it appear like an enchanted mirror.
I gasped in shock as I locked gaze with my reflection in the mirror.
I looked shabby and unkempt!
I was filthy.
This wasn’t me.
Self-pity washed through me as I stared at my broken reflection in disbelief.
This Esmeralda looked different.
I looked like the shadow of myself.
I remembered how conscious I was of my body, especially my skin. How I took care of my glass skin and my silky hair with expensive products. Courtesy, my mum.
I remembered how I won the most beautiful girl contest in highschool because of my glowing skin that turned heads. I remembered how all the boys wanted me and all the girls wanted to be like me.
“When I look at the mirror, I like what I see, I see a bad bitch looking back at me,”
Tears welled up in my eyes as I remembered how I sang Princess Vitarah’s song with so much pride, bragging about my glowing skin and curvy figure.
If only I knew, If only I knew.
I could spend hours looking at the mirror, applying my skincare routine, but I barely saw the mirror saw in the cell and the only thing that gave my reflection was a pool of still water.
Looking at the mirror was what I detest most as I was afraid of my image.
My broken image that stared back at me.
The face that was once filled with a cheerful smile was now replaced with a frown.
I couldn’t remember the last time I laughed, except I was with Selene.
My life wasn’t amusing.
Those bright almond-shaped eyes that were the centre of attraction now appeared to have lost their sparkle.
They’ve appeared dull and cold for as long as I could remember.
Dark circles formed a ring around the dainty eyes, concealing their beauty.
I climbed the steps and sat in the pink bathtub, pressing a button that filled the bathtub with foamy water.
I grabbed a sponge, poured a generous amount of body wash on it, scrubbed my body angrily and tearfully, focusing on my wrists and my ankles that were marred with red marks gotten from the chains that held me bound.
After scrubbing to my satisfaction, I grabbed the shampoo resting on the shelf and poured a large amount on my hair, scrubbing it with all my might, hoping it restored its shine and silkiness.
Black water flowed down the drain as I turned the water on, rinsing my body after the rigorous bathing.
I was better than before.
Stepping out of the bathtub, I grabbed a toothbrush, applied some toothpaste and brushed my teeth till it appeared white.
When I was through, I wrapped myself in a big fluffy towel and walked out of the bathroom.
“Good morning, sunshine,” I hugged Selene, planting a kiss on her forehead.
“So you woke up without waking me,”
“You looked so peaceful in your sleep, I didn’t want to wake you,” I cupped her round face, “You need to bath,”
“I know,” She replied while I gave her a gentle push to the bathroom.
I leg my towel drop to the ground, leaving me naked while I searched through comfortable dresses in the pink wardrobe.
Who ever owned this room was a woman. No doubt.
My lips twitched in a smile as I pulled out a black jeans and a pink crop top, getting clad in it as fast as possible as my stomach roared in hunger.
“I’m coming, Selene,” I yelled, dashing out of the room quickly, in search of the kitchen.
The sound of my footsteps echoed as I made my way through rooms, in the lonely hallway, making me terrified.
It was lonely, It was dark.
Were there no workers here?
I stopped before a huge black door, placing my hands on the door knob and twisting it, hoping it was the kitchen as I could make out voices.
The voices stopped immediately I entered the room. I froze in my tracks the moment I locked gaze with the last person I wanted to see.
Alpha Kade.
