Kade
I was jolted awake by the sound of hurrying footsteps of unknown people that sprinted toward my direction. My eyes fluttered open as my vision gradually got accustomed to the large bright room.
What was this strange place?
Was I still trapped in my subconscious?
“Alpha,” He called again. This time, his voice was louder and clearer, giving me confirmation of where I was.
Turning to the direction of the voice, my eyes met with a weary-looking Silvius with premature eyebags forming beneath his bloodshot eyes.
Those dangerous eyes that gave the coldest look now appeared dull, heavily burdened with sleeplessness.
A forced smile crept upon his lips as relief and hope washed upon his face, but curiosity also vanished in the same way it appeared.
What was making him curious?
Irritation rushed through me when I felt foreign hands made their way to my body. While a pair of hands placed a flattened instrument that sent shivers down my bare hairy chest, another pair of hands jotted down words on a flat file.
Who were these people?
And why was my Beta standing with his arms crossed, smiling like a fool as they touched me, knowing I hated being touched?
I bet they didn’t know who they were touching.
No one dared touch me without my permission!
Pain shot up in my spine as I was about to yank those hands off me, making me fall back to the bed.
Bed?
“You need to stay still, Sir,” A male voice said, urging me to calm my nerves, but it only fueled my anger.
“Where am I?” I gritted my teeth, asking no one in particular.
Silvius cleared his throat, walking toward the bed I laid, “Uhm, Alpha…” His shaky voice was laced with anxiety and fear, “You are in the hospital,”
Hospital?!
How?
“Hospital?” I stared at him in disbelief, trying to recall how I ended up in the hospital. The more I racked my brain forcing answers, the more my head pounded.
He nodded, with a face void of emotions as always, but I could swear that worry flashed in his eyes for a second.
“What happened?” I asked calmly with my gaze still fixed on his.
“We met you lying on the floor,”
I furrowed my brows, cocking my head to the side, “We?”
Who and Silvius saw me vulnerable?
And why was I lying on the floor?
“Madam Dora and I saw you on the floor close to the North…” He restrained from going further.
Private matters remained private.
Silvius was the only one that knew the North wing triggered my panic attack and I was fine with it, but not anymore as Dora was also aware of it which didn’t sit well with me. Though Dora knew about my childhood and all that I had passed through, one could never tell who the unfriendly friend was.
I heaved a sigh of relief knowing it was just Dora and Silvius that saw me lying on the floor, but the thought of another person aside from those two seeing me lying hopelessly made me cringe.
That was one of the reasons I reduced the number of staff and avoided the routes that will lead me to the North wing.
Nothing screams pathetic than a weak Alpha.
If I couldn’t protect myself, how would I protect the pack?
“You need to rest, Alpha,” Silvius placed his hand on my shoulder but I flung it away, disconnecting the needles on my hand.
“Shit!” I muttered, mentally scolding myself for neglecting my duties. Ignoring the pain that tore through me as I stood, taking off the pathetic blue hospital gown.
Whoever wore this on me needed to be punished!
“What are you doing?” Silvius asked with wide eyes, “You can’t leave without receiving your final medication!”
“That is exactly what I am doing,” I rolled my eyes, diverting my attention to the gown that clung to my body like a second skin, “How the fuck do they take this off?”
“Alpha, you are advised to rest, you cannot leave,” The Pack doctor said, trying to stop me from pulling the gown.
Who the hell was he to advise me?!
Why doesn’t he want me to leave?
And why was everyone telling me to rest?
I am an Alpha and Alphas don’t rest!
“I can leave whenever I want,” I growled angrily with my gaze fixed on him while choking him with his collar. The burning urge to rip his throat filled me.
How dare him try to stop me?!
“Alpha Kade,” A soft feminine voice called, snapping me out of my rage, and calming my raging heart.
The familiar voice sounded like a gosh of gentle running waters.
The only voice that calmed me.
As if under a spell, I let go of my prey, searching frantically for the source of the voice.
Where was she hiding?
Where was Esmeralda?
“Alpha!”
I gasped, returning to reality as Silvius shook me, “Are you alright?”
“I am,”
I wasn’t.
I thought I heard Esmeralda’s voice or was I hallucinating?
What was wrong with me?
“I don’t think you are fine. You are here but your mind is far away, you seem withdrawn and when I called you, it took you a while to respond,”
“There is something in my office that needs my attention,” I replied, feeling embarrassed that I was caught.
“Liar. There is someone in your house that needs your attention,” Tyson’s weak voice filled my head, teasing me before recoiling back into my head.
“Welcome back, buddy,”
“About that, there is a letter in your office,” Silvius’ voice trembled as fear washed upon his countenance.
“From who?” I asked, angrily tearing the gown from my body and putting on my cloth.
“Who wore this thing on me?” I asked Silvius via mind-link. My mind clouded in anger as many thoughts ran through it.
He smirked, “I did,”
“Good,”
“So you’re saying…” I ran my hand through my head, “I was sent a letter by the Alpha of which pack,”
I could hear the loud beating of Silvius’ heart and his fear filled the air, “The Alpha of the Dark Moon Pack!”
