The ride to Blood Moon Pack was quiet. Only our sharp intake of breath could be heard. No one dared say a word as Alpha Kade’s intimidating aura filled the car, suffocating us in our seats.
Not even a whimper escaped my lips when my back began to ache badly. Selene and I sat still like a bot, stripped of emotions and pain except that I leaned in several positions sometimes, seeking a comfortable posture I could stay in without being in intense pain. At least, till the ride was over.
Turned out I hadn’t recovered from the previous lashes and my pathetically slow healing made matters worse. A familiar soft small palm covered my hand, giving it a gentle squeeze as if communicating with me to endure the pain till we got to our destination. I snuggled closer as the hand extended to my shoulder. Taking the cue, I laid my head on Selene’s shoulder, while she caressed my arm, easing me of the pain.
Despite our sealed lips, our eyes never failed to convey communication. Sometimes, I wish Selene and I could communicate via mind-link as there was a lot I wanted to tell her without anyone eavesdropping, but it was impossible as she was a witch.
My eyes wandered from the back seat where I and Selene sat. More like clung to each other, to the vacant seat beside the driver’s seat, where Alpha Kade sat, driving.
I remembered almost hopping into the front seat, where I could get a proper view of him and bond with him but his furious expression sent me to the back seat where I belong.
I knew I wasn’t what he wanted, but why does he have to make it obvious?
It was only a matter of time. I knew sooner or later, he would come around. Till then, at least, I was free from my pack, free from my shackles, free from my cell.
The horrid look that the Alpha of my pack gave Alpha Kade revived my memory and Alpha Kade’s response gave me a tiny hope that someday, he would come around.
“What are you doing with the Omega girl?” He spat, looking at Alpha Kade like he had lost his mind before giving me the most disgusting look like I was garbage, “Away from him at once!”
Alpha Kade let out a dangerously loud howl, holding me tight till I felt the edge of his claw dig into my flesh, daring anyone to challenge him but they knew better than challenging him.
“Back off Alpha, the Omega is mine!” He roared before he disappeared into his car and zoomed off.
My gaze travelled up to the front mirror where I caught him stealing glances at Selene and me, mostly me. Those soft green eyes appeared colder and meaner as they pinned Selene on her seat, almost ripping her flesh off her bone.
Why did he make it so glaring that he hated Selene to a fault?
“… I don’t trust her,” He had emphasized, making it clear that he hated Selene.
But I trusted Selene. I trusted her with my life. Why couldn’t he see that?
“Who among you is injured?” His deep voice resonated in our ears, jolting us from our long train of thought.
Fear clothed me like a garment as I was afraid to reveal myself to him, afraid of what he would say or do. My heart thumped loudly in my chest as I cast a troubled look at Selene, asking her what I should do.
“Don’t make me repeat myself!” He warned, his hands gripping the wheels tightly as he drove roughly.
“I am the one who is injured,” Selene replied and looked away before I could scold her for covering up for me.
“It’s none of my business then,” He hissed and resumed driving.
It took a quality amount of self-control to calm me. How dare he speak to my best friend in such a manner?!
But there was nothing a weakling like me could do. He was my master. He was my Alpha.
Instead of throwing a tantrum, I placed my head against the car window with my hand supporting my chin, giving the woods my attention, and enjoying the beauty of nature before I caught sight of buildings. Driving further along the buildings was a town, bigger than I expected.
The Blood Moon Pack.
The Pack was surrounded by a thick forest and a small river running around the circumference of the forest.
Pulling up at a big golden gate before it was opened by some guards, was the most beautiful sight to behold. A long driveway led to a beautiful gigantic medieval castle with a huge fountain that sat at the centre, a few meters away from the castle.
The house was so big and spacious that my whole pack could fit into it. His house appeared magical like that on pages of fantasy books. I thought I would be forever confined in the cell, but here I was living in a castle.
“Get out,” He ordered before unfastening his seatbelt and leaving us in the car.
Jerk!
I slammed the door and stomped my feet angrily, irritated by the way he speaks to me.
For fuck’s sake, I was his mate!
He should learn to treat me with respect.
I held onto Selene’s hand tightly as we followed Alpha Kade into his big castle as it was late already, making it difficult for us to see.
I looked at the Alpha strangely as he placed his palm on a surface that turned green immediately it recognized it and in no time, the door opened.
Weird!
“Welcome to my house,” He said coldly, before walking deeper and deeper into the thick darkness.
Why was his house dark?
What was his obsession with dark things? Black boots, black jacket, now a dark house.
Wasn’t he scared of dark places?
My heart thumped loudly in my chest as I couldn’t hear Alpha Kade’s footsteps, he had disappeared into the darkness.
Did he leave us?
I hope he didn’t leave us to sleep without illumination as I was terrified of the dark.
It didn’t take time before the switch was turned on and light flooded the house, making me release Selene from my tight grip.
“Woah,” I gasped, paying less attention to self-discipline as I completed 360° to behold the heavenly sight that greeted my eyes.
A castle on the outside and five-star hotel interiors on the inside.
“Your house is very beautiful,” I complimented, still reluctant to tear my gaze off its luxury.
My eyes were glued to the source of illumination that hung above me.
Huge golden chandeliers.
It was the second time I would be seeing chandeliers, after visiting the Alpha of my former Pack’s house.
A gasp escaped my lips before I could stop it as my gaze fell on a huge black television hung on the wall. The television could pass for a big wall mirror.
I was practically looking up as my gaze travelled to the high glass window that was partly concealed with a silk-grey curtain. The window could pass for a door.
Grey accent chairs sat at every corner of the room with black linear sofas that faced the fireplace.
Black again.
I carefully tread on the dark floor, still marveled at the most beautiful sight. It was safe to at that Alpha Kade’s sitting room screamed more luxury than that of my former Alpha.
The sight alone did no justice as my hands itched to touch everything in the room, to know what they felt like.
“I want to have a word with you. Without her,” His cold voice snapped me out of my fantasy as his hardened gaze was fixed on Selene, forcing her to give us some privacy.
I gave Selene a reassuring pat as she made her way out of the sitting room.
“Is there a problem, Alpha Kade?” Surprised at how my voice came out calmly, but my inside was terrified as I began to think of ways that I might have annoyed him.
Maybe I stared at his house too much.
“For there not to be a problem, you have to follow my rules,”
“Rules?” I repeated as confusion hit me like a ton of bricks.
What rules? I asked within me, daring not to let it slip off my mouth.
“First rule is to keep your mouth shut. Never engage in a conversation with anyone, not even my Beta,”
I gasped, taking a step away from him. Why wouldn’t he want me to communicate with his Beta?
His ruthlessness and his strange acts were rumoured for years, but now I believed. Standing in front of me was a monster, different from what I supposed.
“Second rule is to avoid the North wing at all cost,”
North wing? What is in the North wing that my eyes couldn’t see?
Why was the North wing my boundary?
“The third and the most important rule is to never tell anyone that you are my mate, the Luna of the Blood Moon Pack. Just do your job and retreat to your room,”
Do my job? What job?
Several questions kept churning and burning inside me but I couldn’t voice them out as fear of the unknown clouded me.
“Break any of those rules and you’ll be sorry,”
