Esmeralda
I stopped in my tracks, with my gaze fixed on the huge man that didn’t bother to glance at me as he kept walking.
“Wait up,” I called, trying to keep up with his pace, hoping he would slow down but he didn’t.
Jerk!
I practically ran after him as fast as my long legs could carry me, but they were no match for his extra long legs.
I ran. The thought of it made me beam in excitement.
I had spent years locked in a cell like a prisoner and for the first time in many years, I ran.
I had completely forgotten what running felt like as I had always been confined to a kneeling or sitting position, restricting my movement. But this time, I was running.
And I was not just running from my past or from my evil half-sister, I was running to my mate!
It didn’t take long before my legs began to lose their strength as my knees almost brushed the cold floor. It was too soon to feel tired. Maybe, I wasn’t used to running and the short sprint drained my energy.
Or maybe I was just a weak Omega as everyone tagged me. And for the first time, I agreed that they were right. I was weak.
I stopped at intervals, panting hard, gasping for breath before resuming my sprint, but it didn’t take long before I caught up with him, stopping abruptly in front of him, making him give me a questionable look.
“What is it, mate?” His deep voice asked as his piercing gaze searched my eyes, demanding an answer.
Mate!
He addressed me as his mate!
I was about to answer him, but his striking features caught my attention, throwing me off balance.
I fed my curious eyes with his features as I noticed his messed up hair for the first time. The warm golden-brown hair that stopped mid-way on his neck, made me want to run my hands through it, feeling it’s softness, silkiness. The wind wasn’t helping matters as it ruffled the hair, making it appear messier.
Beautifully messy, as it made him more attractive.
The fullness of his eyebrows with curved ends added to his beauty.
His oval-shaped gemstone green eyes that didn’t leave mine as they held me spellbound. I gasped softly the moment his green eyes started to fade slowly, as darkness overshadowed it. A green ring replaced the circumference of his iris as his pupils began to dilate.
That was when I saw it. His wolf watched me keenly.
I flinched, taking a step from him. My eyes met his perfectly sculptured pointed nose which he used in taking deep breaths. He clenched his strong chiselled jawline as his eyes switched to green before they were completely covered in darkness. He was finding it hard to control his wolf.
I watched his Adam apple move swiftly as he swallowed. I felt the urge to know what his beard felt like in between my fingers.
A gasp escaped my lips when my eyes wandered to his broad chest. The chest that I would soon find solace.
There was no doubt that his creator took quality time sculpting him that his appearance was like that of a Greek god.
I couldn’t help but imagine him naked.
Perv!
I screamed in my mind, mentally scolding myself.
Whatever.
There was nothing wrong in undressing him with my eyes, he was my mate after all.
“When you are done checking me out, let me know,” His husky voice snapped me out of my imagination.
I pressed my thighs together, mentally shaking my head to erase the dirty thoughts that slowly crept into my mind. I didn’t want him to smell my arousal. But his sexy voice wasn’t helping matters.
I cleared my dry throat as my gaze met the floor, “I was not looking,” I lied, biting my lips to stop a blush from escaping them. But his eyes flickered from dark to green.
A smirk filled his lips, “You terrible liar,” He said, emphasizing on every word.
I suck at lying as I was always caught, but Selene was excellent at lying that she was never caught. She only lied when she wanted to get us out of trouble, but she never lied to me.
I frowned as the thought of Selene filled my head once more. I couldn’t believe that I got distracted and forgot about my best friend.
“Actually, I have something to tell you,” I swallowed. My heart began to pound in my chest.
I waited for a verbal reply but his eyes urged me to speak.
“I have a best friend that I cannot leave behind,” I said with slumped shoulders, searching his eyes for approval.
“News flash, I don’t care about your best friend,” He groaned, getting pissed by my pending request.
“I know you don’t, but please, let her come with us. I cannot leave without her, she is like a family to me,”
He clenched his jaws and fixed his deadly gaze on me, “Give me one reason why I should let her come with us?”
I would give you a thousand and one reasons.
Was it when she received my lashes? Or when she took my blame and got starved for days? Or when she sneaked to give me food and got punished severely? Or when she showed me what love was? Or when she relieves me of my burdens?
“Because we live for each other,” I sniffed as my vision got blinded with tears.
Nothing will make me leave Selene behind.
His eyes softened as they watched me for a while, “Fine. Make it quick,” He said curtly.
I gasped, grabbing his large hand, but I tossed it aside as sparks ran through my hand, “Thank you,” I muttered, turning away from him shyly.
I made my way through the crowd that had horrid expressions plastered on their faces. For the first time in my hated life, I saw pity in their eyes. They looked at me like I was about to sign my death warrant with the most cruel Alpha.
The atmosphere was so tense that the music band had to stop and stare.
“Selene!” I yelled, rushing to meet my best friend who looked at me like she had seen a ghost, “I have been looking for you. Come on, let’s go,” I pulled her hand but she removed it from my grip.
“To where?”
“My mate’s pack. I have found my mate,” I announced excitedly, hoping she would quit being interrogative and follow me.
“Your mate? But your wolf is weak, how did you find your mate?”
“I will explain later. We don’t have time,” I dragged her to where Alpha Kade was before she could protest.
A familiar dangerous growl made me almost collapse as I held unto Selene for support.
“Your best friend is a witch?” He growled as his furious eyes darkened, pinning Selene to the ground.
How could I forget that there was no love lost between werewolves and witches.
“She means no harm I swear,” I chimed in, hoping he doesn’t change his mind. I couldn’t bear the thought of leaving Selene behind, “Please, I cannot live without her,”
He took dangerous steps towards us, making us cling to each other, terrified for our lives.
“It’s none of my business if she means no harm. I don’t trust her,” He gave a low grunt, emphasizing on the last sentence as his words were laced with pure anger towards Selene.
