Cilla’s POV
As soon as Jane left, I rushed to the bedroom and dressed up. I rushed to the bathroom and splashed cold water on my face, before washing it and drying with a towel. While I dried my face gently, I called out for one of my personal maids who was in the kitchen preparing my breakfast. “Sarah, come and get my dress.”
In less than a minute, Sarah was in the bedroom. Although I had always tried to be nice to her, she always seemed panic stricken. Her previous slave master had traumatized her so much she was unable to believe there were good people in the world.
She rushed into the room, carrying a green dress and a pair of matching flats. I finished applying lotion to my body and quickly slipped into the light dress before sitting down at the vanity. Immediately, Sarah came and started brushing my hair. While she was doing that, I was moisturising my face and applying light make up. When that was done, she helped me into my flats and I stood up, ready to step out.
“Thank you,” I said, giving her a grateful smile. “I will not be having breakfast right now.”
Sarah rushed out of the bedroom fast. I was giving my face final touches when I heard the opening of the front door. My ears perked up.
“Welcome back, alpha Ridian.” Sarah said. I heard a bit of scuffle as Sarah struggled with what I assumed was my husband’s luggage.
I took a deep breath and sat on the bed, refusing to go to the living room and meet him. Had I been in a better mood, I would have gone and given him a proper welcome. But, I was too angry to pretend that I was glad he was back.
My heart practically stopped when I saw the door handle moving. Ridian entered looking so excited but when he saw my face, his smile faded. He came and sat next to me, looking concerned. “What is the matter, my dear?”
I glared at him. “Why didn’t you tell me that you were going to attack my pack?”
“Your pack?” Ridian’s brow rose.
“You know what I mean,” I said, sternly.
Ridian sighed. “How did you know about this? I was the one supposed to tell you.”
I stood up. “That doesn’t matter. Why did you attack moonshine pack?”
“This was not the reaction I was expecting,” Ridian said.
“What were you expecting?”
He stood up. “I did this for you.”
“For me?”
“Yes, I fought that evil bastard Aragon and conquered moonshine pack for you, so you could have control over the pack that raised you.”
“Why would you think I wanted that? I left that pack behind and I stopped caring about it a long time ago. I have no interest in leading it. I have fallen in love with this pack.”
Ridian sat down and ran his hands through his hair aggressively. He seemed really disturbed but I refused to feel any sympathy for him. “I thought you would be happy to be one of the leaders of the pack that your father led. Alpha Aragon has been treating your people so harshly. This also rescued them from a tyrannical leader. I’m sure they would prefer you and I instead.”
“I never talk about that pack. I thought that would be enough to show how little I care about the members. Those people did nothing when my father and mother were killed. I was enslaved while they went on with their lives like normal. Why would I care if alpha Aragon mistreated them?”
“I thought you never said anything because you thought there was nothing you could do. I thought if you got the chance, you would want to take revenge on the man who destroyed your life.”
I shook my head, unable to believe what I was hearing. “That means you know nothing about me although we have been married for over a month. I can’t believe you’d do something like this.”
“I understand your anger, my dear luna. I made a mistake, many mistakes and I’m sorry. But try to understand the motivation behind it. I did what I thought was best for you. Now that I think about it, I should have known better. Whenever I make rash decisions, they always turn out to be bad.”
My anger began to dissipate but I decided not to let go of it when I remembered the kind of responsibility Ridian was putting in my hands. I didn’t want to rule over people I didn’t care about, people I hated. I didn’t want my new pack to be associated with the old one I had left behind.
“I can’t do this,” I confessed. “You have to hand the pack over to alpha Aragon. I hope you haven’t killed him.”
“I didn’t kill him, but his powers as the alpha of moonshine pack have been revoked. The whole pack it will be under you and I.”
“I don’t want to be part of it,” I said. “You were going to give it to me as a gift but I don’t want it. Let the pack go back in the hands of its true alpha.”
“I’m the true alpha now.”
“Let it go.”
“That’s not how things work and you know it. If I give the pack back, it will be a sign of weakness. I’m not work and I’m sorry but I won’t let you turn me into a weakling.”
“Giving back a pack that doesn’t belong to you will not make you weak.”
“All the pack members including Aragon have pledged allegiance to me. This will bring in very many benefits for our pack and theirs. That pack could be great but all their resources have been mismanaged. We can manage them better and makes sure everyone benefits.”
“Including you?”
“Yes, including me.”
I stared at him, and he looked directly into my eyes, a serious expression on his face. It was clear that he was not about to back down.
I sighed and left the room. He didn’t even try to stop me, and it hurt.
