Jane’s POV
Brody was rough, and I liked it. A few minutes later, we were lying next to each other on his bed. He smelled great, and he had a bigger build compared to his brother, which made me feel safer in his arms.
“You can leave now,” he said.
I froze. “I have not yet spoken about why I really came here.”
Brody chuckled. “I don’t care about what you want. We’re done here.”
“You can’t just sleep with me and send me away like that.”
“I can, and I’m doing it.”
“You’re an asshole,” I told him.
“You didn’t say that when I was on top of you.”
My lips parted and I sat up. “You tore open my top.”
“And?”
“I need something to wear.”
“That’s not my problem. It’s dark anyway, no one will notice, and if they do, they won’t be surprised because you’re a hoe.”
“I didn’t know you were like this.”
“I didn’t know you were like this as well. Back before you left my brother at the altar, I actually thought you were a good woman. Can’t believe I was that stupid.”
I quickly dressed up and left the room angry at myself for being so foolish. I had been in denial for a while thinking some people in this pack didn’t hate me but now I was beginning to get convinced that I was not wanted. Everyone was done with me. If I was going to succeed in destroying Blackmoon pack, I needed the help of someone on the outside. At that time, I couldn’t think of a person but I knew I would get one soon.
I was unable to fall asleep easily as I kept thinking about Ridian’s enemies but couldn’t come up with a way of infiltrating their packs so I could get their attention. There was a lot of information I did not have but needed, for example, why exactly they hated him. I needed to get all that information so that I could come up with a plan accordingly. When morning came, I was more than happy to get out of the dreary room I had been assigned since I returned.
After dressing up properly in my room, I decided to go to the dining room and find something to eat. It was breakfast time, and we the pack members usually at in the pack house dining room which was on the ground floor.
Ever since I had been demoted, i usually sat alone in the corner. Occasionally, a person would pass by and take a jibe at me. At first it had been terrible but I had grown used to it with time. It didn’t hurt me anymore.
That day, I sat at the table next to one with two loud mothed girls who couldn’t stop talking. Since I had nothing better to do than to eavesdrop while eating, I did.
“They say that alpha Aragon surrendered immediately he saw alpha Ridian,” one of them was saying.
I looked up and saw the other shaking her head. “That’s not true. I don’t believe it. Besides, that alpha Aragon is said to be very arrogant. I don’t think he would surrender without a fight. Who told you anyway?”
“Miranda told me.”
“Miranda is a gossip. Everyone knows that everything she says is a lie except you. You can ask someone else. Gary said that alpha Ridian fought alpha Aragon bravely. Aragon’s men were very weak and couldn’t fight off ours.”
I wanted to join the conversation and find out what was going on but I couldn’t. I knew that no one would tell me anything so I decided to listen to other conversations going on around the room. Who was alpha Aragon? Why did Ridian attack him? Did Ridian kill him?
I looked around and saw a group of young men chatting excitedly.
“We’re going to get new women,” one of them said and I rolled my eyes. Was that all they thought about? “Don’t get me wrong. Most of our women are pretty but I’m so tired of seeing the same faces every day. Now that we shall be in charge of another pack, we’re going to have access to their women. Hopefully most of them are unmated.”
“All you think about is women. Moonshine pack has a lot of minerals. Think about what this could mean for our pack. We’re going to make a lot more money than we get for the salt.”
“I heard that our Luna comes from that pack. Is that true?”
“Yes, and he conquered the pack as a gift to her.”
“Shhh,” another said. “That’s supposed to be a secret.”
The three guys nervously looked around to see if anyone was listening to their conversation. My eyes met with one of them, a dark skin man with long dreads. I turned away, feeling more confused than ever. Why was that a secret?
I could feel anger bubbling inside me. When we were together, Ridian never gave me such grand gifts. Cilla was going to be gifted control of her original pack after doing nothing to deserve it. My fingers balled into fists as I took quick breaths in an attempt to reduce the feelings of anger running through my body.
“Why is it a secret?” the young man who had been shushed asked.
“It’s too dangerous to keep talking about this,” the one who had told his friend to keep quiet said. He started eating his food quickly, and his friends followed suit. I was disappointed because I wanted more information.
My appetite was gone, and my evening was ruined but I was not going to be the only one whose evening was ruined. The princess who was not supposed to hear about her gift was about to hear it. It was possible that she had already heard of it but I hoped she had not. I wanted to be the one to wipe her self-satisfied smile off.
Standing up, I took my plate to the counter and left the room in haste. I went and ran up the stairs until. By the time I got to the top floor, I was panting. I bent down, hands on my thighs and waited for my breathing to normalize.
When I felt stable enough, I stood up and went to knock on the door.
“Who’s there?”
It was the voice I hated most in the world.
“Jane Willow,” I said confidently. She didn’t sound angry, but tired and lazy. I smiled.
“You’re not welcome here,” she said. “Please leave.”
“I assume you haven’t heard about what happened to moonshine pack, have you?”
Seconds later, I heard the sound of sandals hitting the floor. And then the door was opened. She looked like she had just got out of bed.
“What do you have to tell me?”
“I find it weird that your husband didn’t tell you, but told me.”
Her face fell, but she regained her composure quickly. I decided to save her some stress.
“Ridian attacked your former pack last night, and conquered it.”
“What?” she said, her face flushing. I glanced at her clenched fists and smiled. This was the moment I had been waiting for, and it was worth it.
“Get out,” she said.
“Are you not going to thank you for delivering the news?” I asked, laughing the whole time.
She stepped closer, and slapped me. I raised my hand and slapped her. She tried to lunge at me but I dodged and ran out of the room before she could get me. My work was done and I didn’t want to jinx by getting involved in a useless fight with the Luna.
