“Trust me, okay?” Derek gently shook Serina’s shoulders. Derek knew Serina had a gunshot wound in her arm, so he didn’t exert any strength.
Serina nodded. “You can’t leave me.”
“Don’t worry. Even if you drive me away, I won’t leave.”
Serina smiled through tears.
But Derek and Serina had different thoughts in their minds.
Yolanda arrived at around ten o’clock the next day. After receiving the call from Serina, she rushed over overnight.
Yolanda was so excited to see her daughter Marco alive that her hands were shaking.
Marco was also shocked to know that she and Serina were twin sisters.
Derek didn’t show up to avoid arousing suspicion.
There were only Yolanda, Serina, and Marco in the ward.
They had never lived together and seemed a little unfamiliar. Especially Serina felt that Marco was not her sister but her husband’s ex-girlfriend.
Yolanda took Marco’s hand. Marco wanted to withdraw her hand, but she held back.
Marco smiled gently at Yolanda. “Forgive me for not getting used to calling you ‘Mom’. After all, this name has been strange to me for the past 20 years.”
Yolanda shook her head. “It doesn’t matter. I don’t mind. It’s good that you are still alive. Marco, you were only seventeen when you went abroad. How did you live as a girl?”
Marco lowered her eyes and grinned bitterly. “It’s over anyway.”
Marco summed up her hardships abroad in one sentence.
Yolanda could hear from Marco’s tone that Marco was not living well abroad.
“Mar, you’ve had a hard time.” Yolanda stroked Marco’s face.
“It’s nothing hard. I think all the suffering in the world will make a person stronger.”
Marco smiled faintly and understated, “Take my stomach, for example, I’m not picky about food now. I have no problem with being hungry for a few days. When I used to be hungry, my daily wish was to fill my stomach.”
The speaker had no intention, but the listener had thoughts.
Yolanda was heartbroken when she heard Marco’s words.
“I worked illegally in a restaurant for a while. My salary was low, and sometimes I had to hide, but I was happy at that time. Because I always had leftovers from customers and could eat enough every day. I put on weight during that time!”
Marco said and laughed to herself.
Yolanda was sad. “Marco, I feel sorry for you.”
“Don’t feel sorry for me. My stomach was trained back then. If I was kidnapped, I would have no problem starving for three days and nights. Moreover, I was brave because of these hardships! I dared to fight with others abroad. That’s why I rushed up so bravely when I saw Serina kidnapped!”
Marco continued.
“I didn’t expect to save my sister!” Marco turned her eyes to Serina. Serina had to smile.
“Yes, this is the fate between your sisters! Serina, you must thank Marco,” Yolanda said to Serina.
“Serina and I are twin sisters. You don’t have to say thank you. If you thank me, you’ll treat me as an outsider.” Marco smiled.
Marco was always so gentle and considerate, which made Serina feel inferior.
“Marco, I will cook for you when I recover and leave the hospital. My cooking skills are good.” Serina had no choice but to be polite.
“Really? Then I want to try your dish.”
Yolanda said, “Serina is a foodie. She liked to eat from childhood. Later, the food outside could not satisfy her, so she began to study cooking by herself. I didn’t expect her to succeed. Serina is lazy to do anything except cooking!”
Serina said sheepishly, “Mom…! Stop talking about this.”
Yolanda, Marco, and Serina all laughed.
After laughing, Marco looked at Serina. “Where’s Derek? Why didn’t I see him?”
This question reminded Yolanda of what happened before.
Yolanda thought, ‘Derek and Marco used to be together for a while. If it weren’t for Derek and Lauren, Marco wouldn’t have suffered so much!’
Yolanda’s face suddenly became gloomy. “Serina, where’s Derek? Why didn’t he come? He should compensate Marco!”
Serina was a little embarrassed. “Mom, the past is over. It has nothing to do with Derek. It’s all Lauren’s fault, and Lauren has passed away. Would you stop talking about it?”
“Marco’s suffering can’t be written off just because Lauren is dead!” Yolanda didn’t cool down so easily.
Yolanda let it go at that time because she was worried that Lauren would persecute Serina again. She wanted to protect Serina.
“Mom, what do you want to do?” Serina asked.
Yolanda hesitated. She thought, ‘What can I do? Now Derek is Serina’s husband, and they have two daughters.’
Marco looked at them and suddenly smiled.
“How are you and Derek?” Marco asked Serina.
“We’re fine, and we’re preparing for the wedding. We have two lovely daughters. They’re twins too. I’ll bring them over to meet you another day.” Serina didn’t mention Derek and Marco’s past relationship. She acted as nothing had happened.
“Okay, so I have two lovely nieces. Then I will get to know them well.”
Yolanda said, “One of them is Cherry, which is more lively. The other is Blueberry, which is calmer. Both of them are very cute!”
Serina stood up. “Mom, keep chatting with Marco. I have to go back. The doctor said that the nurse will give me an infusion today.”
Yolanda said, “Okay, then you go back. I’ll chat more with Marco here.”
Serina nodded and walked straight out of Marco’s ward.
When Serina returned to her ward, the nurse and Derek were already waiting there.
The nurse immediately gave Serina an infusion. Serina was sitting on the hospital bed in a bad mood.
Derek leaned against the head of the bed, holding Serina in his arms. “What’s the matter? Are you unhappy? Or did she say something?”
“Why is she so nice?”
“Who?”
Serina sniffed. “Marco. We are twin sisters. Why is she so understanding? Why am I so annoying?”
“Is Marco very understanding?”
“Yes. My mom asked Marco if she was having a hard time abroad. We know she didn’t live well. But Marco said that the bad experience was good, and it was a kind of training. I think…”
Derek asked, “What do you think?”
Serina replied, “Strange. I always think Marco is hypocritical.”
Serina frowned.
