I hope you find someone who knows how rare it is to find someone like you!
……
“Hey, hey… look who is here?!”, exaggerated Beverly shoving out of crowd of teenagers. A smirk plastered Kathleen’s face and Laura inch closer to Kathleen’s side.
“How it is going? Are you liking the party?”, Beverly taunted kathleen.
“Of course yes, who wouldn’t love a party that Beverly holds!”, kathleen replied with a smirk.
“Well. I’m flattered”, Beverly stated it with a evil smile.
“So, how about we play games like never have I ever, two truths and lie and if you want something active then we can play musical chair!”, taunted Beverly making Kathleen roll her eyes. All the games that she told were equally dangerous, for instance, during musical chair there is a high probability to trip and fall in between the game and chances of physical injury is high. Playing with Beverly and her friends is not a wise choice at all.
Likewise, the other two games, would bring out the dark side of each and everyone playing the game, especially kathleen. Anyways, Beverly is not gonna let them alone till they agree to something and Kathleen was aware that she was doing all this just to cause troubles to her. Moreover, in a war, there are no unwounded soldiers.
Before, Beverly could respond to her own statement, a red head comes running towards their direction. She eyed Beverly and Arlie and Claudia walked away leaving them alone.
“Psst…. cops are here. Maybe you should do something”, the red head whispered but it was audible to Kathleen and Laura. Relieved, they exhaled together with a smirk.
“What I have paid them enough, and I asked them no to mind us. What do they want now?”, Beverly grunted and the red head shrugged.
“Fine, ask them to wait. I’m coming. No one should leave this party”, hissed Beverly and the red head marched towards the exist. Beverly turn around to face the girls with a false smile.
“I’ll be back, if you don’t mind”, she left them alone and Laura was jumpy about the games.
“What the hell was that, kath? Are we really gonna play with that bitch and her bitch friends”, she snaps and Kathleen jump back a little on hearing her tone. She sounded frustrated and Kathleen can understand why.
“We are left with no choice, Laura”, she clears her throat.
“And what the hell is that game two truths and a lie??”, she asked with a scowl on her face. Everyone around here except kathleen and Laura were partying the Saturday’s eve to the fullest while these girls were standing right there in the middle of party hall with a bad temper. Pathetic!
“Seriously? You have never played such game ?? Unbelievable!!”, kathleen couldn’t believe how naive Laura was when it comes to things like this.
“Trust me it’s my first time to attend a party like this. The past 18 years of my life was with books, classes, family and I had to do part-time. So I never really had time for any of this”, she signed and Kathleen nodded meekly.
Laura was right. She was not just a lame nerd at her high school but a hard worker indeed.
Most girls that kathleen knew, have been the girls who party around, enjoy every evening, socializing with their pals, have some good company, going out on dates but Laura was someone different, she would sit at home, read books, do homework and other stuffs, help her parents and siblings with their chores and she only valued things that increases her productivity. She never liked useless teenagers parties.
There are girls who does things for the sake of others for the time being but end up regretting things later. There are girls who store up all their anger within and act like nothing bothers them to the world, they bury up all their anger so they can set a good image for themselves and do the same tedious things that anger their parents.
They become rebellious, manipulative, controlling everyone around them, piling damage onto damage until their home life implodes. What’s left of them after that is bitter, confused and full of resentment. But Laura is nothing like that.
Laura isn’t like them, she is not like any other girls, she is a total enigma, that may won’t understand why. She has no reasons to be like this but she spends no time with her friends and she does only if it is necessary and she talks about many different things that inspired her only to her closest ones. Likewise, the college hasn’t changed the person who she was in high school.
Somehow she is only interested in books and not humans, the introvert in her rolls right off her instead of sinking in and twisting the way she thinks and behaves. Every day is fresh according to Laura, everyday is a fresh chance to learn something new and consider every person she across had a story to tell and she take up only the good. She never liked getting into trouble and wouldn’t know how to hold a grudge, in fact she never liked getting furious nor liked to have people attention towards her, she avoided all these. Just getting to know the real Laura is one toughest task for any new person who enters her life and of course she is no open book.
She’s like a person who gets beamed and her eyes lights up when she is lost in her own whole different world. Laura was ambitious indeed but in a good way. Ever since high school she had her own dreams, and the one that tops the list was that she planned on joining college with her own earnings. She doesn’t have to do that as her father and mother were earning enough for the family to have a sophisticated lifestyle. She began doing part-time after school to earn for college.
Laura had a younger brother, Calder, 16 year old boy who loved his sister Laura more than his younger ones and two younger sisters Frida and haisly, 12 year old little ones. Laura spent all her leisure times with Calder, Frida and Haisly, they were her best friends. She never tried to socialize, she preferred the company of books rather than real people. She was the kid that every parents fantasies to have.
She never belonged to any place, she is a wanderer. She doesn’t build castle in the air, she works for it, she put out her fullest effort. She doesn’t spend money lavishly and she never really focused on fancy things. She dresses in jeans, t shirt, wrap dress and all the others dress that doesn’t reveal much. She doesn’t like getting noticed by people. She is not a girl into fashion and so was her family. She doesn’t indulge in fantasy and fancy looks.
Like inside that persona was a little? nerd. Even if she would bump into some guy or if some random guy bumped into her, she would ignore them and continue to walk away. She never made male friends all her life except for Noah and Peter. It’s not that she doesn’t like to, she never really had the time to. She is the type of girl who suddenly freezes mid stoke in the middle of the conversation and then she smiles resuming back to the conversation.
“Laura, we have to pick three statements to make about yourself, for instance like ‘I have two siblings, I’ve been to three continents, and I love pigs,’ for example. No offense”, giggled kathleen making Laura roll her eyes.
“Out of the three statements that you pick, two should be true and the other one should be a lie, like completely false. Everyone else in the game must guess which one of the following is the lie, exactly and then the next person goes”, kathleen explained making Laura? wonder if it really would be interesting at all, as it doesn’t sound so. And however, she never wanted to know people and they had no reason to know her as well.
“This is a great getting to know you game and it would be good only if we are playing with our family or friends, and it would be so much fun in picking obscure details to try to trick each other? and playing it with Beverly and unknown people is not fun at all”, expressed Kathleen.
“Ahmm, kath. You never told me what happens if we guess the lie wrongly?!”
“Maybe, Beverly would set something up for that. She won’t let us go that easily”, huffed kathleen.
“And do you know what musical chair is or you want me to explain the game as well”, joked kathleen making her best friend frown.
“So what do we do for now? Stand here halted or can we taste the true essence of party.?”, questioned kathleen.
“Ahm…. I choose the first option”. Laura wasn’t interested in roaming around this mysterious place.
“Fine, wait here. I’ll get something for you to eat”, before Laura to stop her, kathleen walked away. Arlie witnessed Kathleen’s moves and Claudia prepared Kathleen’s drink. She mixed lysergic acid diethylamide and temazepam, both will put her to sleep immediately and helps them in way that she will stay asleep till their work is done with her. They mixed up the drugs in a plain fruit drink and Arlie planned a way to make kathleen drink it.
Claudia stopped the busboy who was carrying alcohol and non alcoholic drinks all around the party hall. She whispered something into his ears and he nodded to her command. Kathleen scanned the table of foods and drinks. She took few slices of pizza placing it in a plate, she decided to head towards Laura. The busboy blocks her path asking her if she needs anything to drink.
“Ahmm, no I’m good”, she tries to move away but he insisted her to take a drink from the plate that he was carrying. To her bad, she took up the glass that was filled with drugs. She walked in a much slower pace holding the plate one hand and the drink in another.
Before, she could make up to Laura, she drop the plate and the drink colliding with someone tall and muscular.
“Thank god, I didn’t spill it on him”, she mumbled behind his back. He turn around on hearing the familiar voice.
“Oh my god, it’s you again”, her savior grinned.
“Oh it’s you again”, she smiled at Nathaniel making him grin.
“Well I had no idea that you come to parties like these”, he stated moving away a little.
“I had no idea that I will be here today as well”, she signed.
“And why do you think of me so? Do I look like anti- party girl?”, she squint her eyes at him.
“No… no… uh.. about the things I have heard about you so far, I couldn’t believe you and Beverly were on good terms!”, he expressed with a confused look.
“Ohh, so you have heard about me already?!”, she sounded surprised.
“No no not much, just a….. you can say little or less”, he shrugged.
“Mm hmm, well so Nathaniel tell me about yourself?! What were you doing before you got here?!”
“I was learning at Yale’s then I didn’t want to continue learning there for a few reasons and my dad preferred Howard’s. I’m currently in my third year here”, he concludes and Kathleen mouthed a oh.
“What?! So you are not a freshman, I thought you to be one”, announced Kathleen making him chuckle.
“Excuse me, can I have kathleen back”, intruded a stern female voice and it was Beverly. Kathleen rolled her eyes.
“What do you want?”, she asked her crossing her hands over her chest. Nathaniel narrowed his eyes at the girls, a vertical wrinkle formed between his eyebrows.
“Time to play”, beamed Beverly with a mischievous smile.
“Fine. I’ll come but I have to find Laura first”, kathleen grunted.
“You don’t have to. She has joined us earlier and you were missing out, so I decided to come in search of you and at last I found you with this handsome”, she smiled at Nathaniel.
“Mind if I join you guys?”, he asked unsurely.
“Pleasure is mine and boys like you are always welcome”, Beverly whispered and they walk behind her. She takes them to the other side of the room, a large oval table in the middle and the girls and boys occupied the empty seats around it.
Kathleen spotted Laura who showed her a death glare. Kathleen sat on the empty seat beside Laura and Nathaniel sat next to kathleen. There were girls and boys from their campus and few others who don’t go to college. Beverly and her girls sat on the right opposite side.
“Where the hell were you kath?”, grunted Laura. “And what is he doing here?!”.
“You knew him already? I bumped into him few minutes back!”, she explained.
“Who doesn’t?! The whole campus knew it is Nathaniel ! And you go away somewhere without my knowledge and return back with the most handsome man in the world. This is totally not agreed at all”, Laura whisper yelled.
“Shut up, Laura. How did you end up here anyway?”.
Before Laura could react to her question, Claudia yelled everyone to pay attention to Beverly.
“We can get started then”, she announced and Kathleen hoped she should return back to the dorm without getting into any trouble.
“It’s Beverly’s party and you can’t really leave my party without fun and booze. So as a part of Beverly’s party tradition we are gathered in a circle to play a game! So first is first”, Beverly announced.
“So we are going to play the game ‘would you rather!?’, chirped Arlie.
“What the hell is that?!”, Laura whispered yelled.
“We should ask any person in this circle that, “Would you rather…” and include two challenging situations. (“Would you rather not eat for a day or brush your teeth with onion?”). This is just an example and accordingly,? the person has to do the thing that he or she chose.
After their response, it’s their turn to ask any person in the game. Continue until you can’t think of any challenges. Mostly, they will drop the game once everyone has done something”, explained Kathleen in a serious tone.
“I hope truth and lie would have been far more better than this”, signed Laura and Beverly placed the bottle in the middle of the table and spun it. The bottle faced the same red head that kathleen saw some time ago.
The game went on and luckily the girls weren’t asked to do anything yet. They never got their turns and so was Nathaniel. The others were made to drink shots more than they could, some were asked to makeout with the person they wish to, and a girl was made to bath in ice cold water. Beverly and her girls enjoyed seeing them suffer. The girls can’t deny the task they were asked to do, people did it effortlessly as they didn’t want to piss off Beverly.
Beverly made the rules very clear, if they deny to do the task, then they have to stick along with Beverly for a week and that person was responsible in doing all her chores. And to Laura’s relief, tasks doesn’t repeat, only new ones are accepted in the game.
Now, the bottle face Beverly and a evil smile crept her face.
“I’ll ask kathleen now… would you rather ….?”, Beverly thought for a minute and well that was expected, so kathleen wasn’t surprised at all. She was ready to do that she was about to say. As Beverly’s previous plan went in vain, she wanted her next one to succeed.
“Would you rather kiss the boy next you or take off your dress,?”, she smirked. Kathleen’s face lost it’s blood, she expected Beverly would bring up something like the worst but this was way out of line. She doesn’t want to take off her dress and sit naked in front of all these people but kissing Nathaniel doesn’t seem to be a fair idea as well.
“I’ll ki… kiss…”, she stammered and Laura’s eyes widened in shock. Nathaniel blinked for a second as he couldn’t believe she just said it.
“Fine, stand here and do it infront of everyone”, declared Beverly. She was doing this to hurt EJ, she wanted to hurt him so badly.
“Hey, I’m sorry, but I can’t take off my clothes and I can’t be Beverly’s maid for a week. Please understand”, kathleen whispered in a pleasing tone.
“Yeah… yes, I understand totally”, Nathaniel nodded. They together move towards the center of the room and Arlie and Claudia positioned their mobiles to capture the kiss. Kathleen doesn’t know want to do or how to even begin, she was trembling and her hands were shaking for the first time in the evening.
Out of nowhere, a person enters the hall, he was dressed in all black and everyone gasped at his arrival and Kathleen turn to look at the person towering over her. He was handsome in a understated way. He looked stunning in a devil’s disguise. Kathleen gulped audibly as she could notice he was furious and the rage was visible in his eyes. His black hair fell lazily on his forehead and it was clear that he has run his hands through it n number of times.
His cold gaze scan the place and Laura takes off spectacles and wear it again to make sure if the person standing right before her was EJ or she was just dreaming. He glared at Beverly with a smirk and without uttering a word, he grabbed Kathleen’s wrist. She remain rooted to the place, she resisted to move which made him furious. Like a lightning he moved towards her, crashing his lips on hers. People around them gasped and Beverly’s jaw dropped to the floor.
Kathleen froze and her heart pounced to her throat when he kissed her. She close her eyes in fright. His kiss is neither sweet nor demanding, it was a kiss of assurance to kathleen and to all the others that she was his girl.
He caught her nape pulling her closer but she tried to break the kiss as she no longer could stand to the heat of the moment, his kiss is the one steeped in a passion that ignites. The kiss was like the promise of his love and possessiveness that he was drunken in.
And this kiss tells kathleen that he had unspoken desire for her that he embraces himself today rather than hide it like he always did. There was no sweetness in the kiss, his tongue fought her to let him in but Kathleen doesn’t respond to his kiss. He continued to bite her lower lip and pulled her closer than she already is and a million thoughts clouded in Kathleen’s mind. But her hands and legs doesn’t support her at the moment. His other hands traveled gently in her hair while hers tried beating his strongest chest.
He won finally, breaking the kiss slowly,? he drag her out of the party.
