Chapter Thirty-One

Book:Impossible Mates Published:2024-5-1

We walk through the forest for a while, I didn’t know where the heck we were at this point but I trusted Max knew, in the distance, I start seeing lights, I look up to Max who just smiles as I see buildings and people walking around going about there day. It looked like a hidden community, as we get closer people start to look towards us.
“Welcome to our little village,” a man says as we stop in the middle of the village, he looks towards me smiling “What is your name child?” He asks me smiling, I look up to Max who nods and smiles to everyone here seems so happy.
“Savannah,” I say looking around, everyone at this point was looking at us, but mostly me.
“Savannah, welcome to our village, you will be safe here if you need anything come to see me” he smiles as Max walks me over to a little house off to the side of this huge forgotten place.
“This is where I live, you can stay in the spare room,” he says opening the door for me to walk in, wait how long does he think I’m gonna be staying here for?
Before I could ask him more people walk in the house behind us, I move behind Max not knowing what the heck was going on, they were trying to hand me clothes and food all at once, I felt so overwhelmed.
“Okay guys, she’s just got here let her settle in first” Max laughs making the girls nod making their way back out the house, once they were out Max turns to me “I have to speak with someone for a moment, but don’t worry Jazz here will keep you company” he smiles before he too walks out the house closing the door behind him.
“Welcome to the village Savannah” she smiles, I just walk looking around the house looking at everything “if there is anything you need don’t be afraid to ask, honestly you’re gonna love it here” I turn to look at her, how long do these people think I’m staying here for?
“I’m not staying here for long, I’ll probably go home tomorrow,” I say but the smile that’s been on her face fades immediately.
“Max hasn’t told you much about this place has he?” She asks I shake my head, which makes her look down “Savannah the thing is, once you enter the village you’re not allowed to leave” I turn to look at her not believing the words that came out of her mouth.
“What do you mean I can’t leave?” I ask slowly walking over to the front door, but she continues to look over at me with a sad expression.
“It’s the rules you’re not allowed to leave, I’m sorry,” she says as the door opens Max smiling  walking in, he knew exactly what he was doing when he brought me here.
“You’re no friend of mine,” I say pushing him out the way so I could get out, where I full speed run towards where I came in Max shouting my name running after me.
“Savannah where are you?” Ryan’s worried voice comes through as I run.
“Ryan please you need to help me,” I say desperately as I ran faster “they won’t let me leave, please help I’m-“but before I could finish my sentence I trip over what felt like wire making me fall to the ground, I roll for a second before finally stopping laying on the floor.
Max runs over kneeling next to me saying my name over and over again, as more people start to show up.
“Savannah you just had a terrible fall, let’s get you to a doctor,” the man said that welcomed me before, but I wasn’t about to fall for his trap.
“No, I need to leave or you’re gonna make me stay here forever,” I say but he shakes his head kneeling down next to me smiling.
“Jazz didn’t know what she was saying, we just want to help you,” he says, I look up to her but she had her head down looking at the floor “now come on, let’s get you checked over,” the man says as Max helps me stand and start walking me over to, what I think was like a doctors place.
It didn’t take the doctor to look me over, he says I was fine just a few cuts and bruises, I stand up and start to walk out but he stops me.
“I see you’re marked,” he says which makes me freeze, I really didn’t want these people to know that “don’t worry your secret is safe with me, be careful these people aren’t who they say there are,” he says before he packs up his stuff walking out the other door, leaving me in the room utterly confused.
I walk out the room to see Max waiting, once I’m finished he wraps me in a hug.
“Let’s get you home to get something to eat, build your strength up after a long day,” he says, wrapping his arm around my shoulders but what the doctor said to me wouldn’t get out my mind.
