While Ronan raised his head up high waiting for his grandpa, Halle kept her head down all the time. Their relationship would eventually make the meeting awkward. Sooner or later, Grandpa would know the truth. She didn’t understand why Ronan persisted in deceiving his grandpa.
“Halle, he is here. Look, that’s my grandpa.”
There was no luggage, just a hand-drawn suitcase. It was not big. The old man briskly walked towards Ronan with the suitcase. His footsteps were as relaxed as an athlete’s. He wore a black T-shirt. There was not a bodyguard behind him, or Halle might suspect that he was an underworld king-pin in T City.
“Grandpa…” Ronan took Halle to the old man, reached out his hand to take the old man’s luggage, and then introduced Halle to the old man, “Grandpa, this is Halle.”
The old man who wore sunglasses glanced up and down Halle, and then said unhurriedly, “Where is Violet?”
“Grandpa, we broke up a long time ago. Don’t mention her anymore.” Halle thought that Ronan would not be explicit like that and didn’t expect that Ronan would directly announce to his grandpa that he had nothing to do with Violet.
“Okay.” the old man replied faintly and walked directly past Ronan and Halle.
Well, it seemed that the old man didn’t like her.
This was something she didn’t want to see. It was grandpa’s business so she couldn’t control it.
Just then, she felt a pain in her hand. Ronan squeezed the back of her hand and said, “Halle, hurry up to coax my grandpa.” He whispered in her ears with a smile, which made the people outside the guardrail keep taking photographs.
“Well.” For the sake of the marriage agreement, she shook off Ronan’s hand, and then hurriedly chased the old man. The old man walked so fast. If she hadn’t known that he was seventy-three years old, she wouldn’t have believed that he was Ronan’s grandpa. He looked like his father.
“Grandpa, wait for me.”
The old man didn’t seem to hear it. He was determined not to care about her and was not ready to accept her, who was a fake grandson-in-law. She thought Grandpa indeed liked Violet. Looking at the old man’s back, she suddenly felt that it was wrong to cheat him. She didn’t have grandparents so she felt very warm when looking at the elderly.
“Grandpa, do you like Violet?” Since the old man just mentioned Violet, it meant that he liked her.
This question indeed worked. The old man paused and said, “Yes.”
“If you like Miss Wallace, then I will find a way to help you tie them together.”
Grandpa simply stopped, then turned to her, and said in surprise, “Will you?”
She nodded, “Yeah.” She was not scheming. She just knew that the future between her and Ronan would be fruitless. She had already signed a divorce agreement, so she wanted to help grandpa. She felt that Ronan should not deceive Grandpa.
Grandpa was more surprised, “Why?”
As soon as Halle rushed up to him, she naturally took the old man’s arm. Just when the old man was about to withdraw his arm, Halle said in a low voice, “Grandpa, I want to tell you a very important thing about Ronan, but you have to promise me that you won’t say it and won’t let Ronan know that I told you.”
Usually, to provoke the appetite of others was to repeatedly ask them not to say out what they knew. Now she was trying to provoke grandpa’s curiosity about her words.
Sure enough, Grandpa was curious. He pursed his lips and said, “Well, go ahead. I promise you not to tell Ronan.”
Halle gritted her teeth and felt that she should tell Grandpa. She just thought that Ronan should not deceive Grandpa, “Grandpa, I am hired by Ronan to act as his fiancee. If you don’t like me, let’s find a way to make him hire someone else.” How could a grandson lie to Grandpa like this? What a great grandpa! She even hoped that she could have such a grandpa.
The old man stopped and said word by word, “What did you say? You say it again.”
“I am hired by Ronan to act as his fiancee.”
“Not this, but the latter one.”
“If you don’t like me, let’s find a way to make him hire someone else.”
“Girl, don’t you like him?”
She shook her head and nodded hurriedly. She liked him but the relationship between them was fruitless.
“Then you don’t like him.”
“Yeah.” She could only answer in this way, or the old man might not let her go. What she said really aroused the old man’s interest in the inquiry.
“Then why did you agree to do this?”
Halle was a little embarrassed, “Oh, I owe him a lot of money. I don’t know why he hired me. They are so many women in T City. That day, I heard Violet say… say that I seem to be like his lover before.” She was talking nonsense, saying what she thought. She felt that the more she said, the more messy this matter was, but since she had chosen not to lie to Grandpa, then she couldn’t lie.
She would feel guilty for lying to such a good grandpa.
The old man’s complexion changed, “Did Violet say that?”
She nodded, “Yes.” Violet said it but she didn’t know whether it was true or not.
“Girl, you are honest. Haha, I like it.”
The old man laughed so brilliantly.
Halle frowned. She just didn’t want to deceive Grandpa. She thought the old man would look down on her, or at least scold her, but he smiled at her. “Grandpa, are you okay?” She was very confused. She didn’t expect that he would like her.
“I’m fine. The car is coming. Get in the car.” Grandpa took her hand and pushed her to sit in the back seat of the car. Seeing this, Ronan was a little confused by Grandpa’s reaction to Halle.
“Grandpa, when I drive, Halle always sits in the passenger seat.” Ronan was a little guilty. He didn’t want Halle to sit too close to Grandpa. Since Grandpa laughed like that, there must be a problem.
“Ronan, I like Halle. I want to talk to her for a while. You drive your car and don’t disturb us.” Just then, the old man directly pressed a switch in the car. Soon, the driver’s seat and the rear seats were separated by a transparent glass partition.
“Grandpa…” Halle was a little embarrassed. She didn’t know what the old man was going to do. The old man’s reaction was a little strange.
“Relax, Ronan’s car has great sound insulation equipment. You can say whatever you want.”
“Grandpa, you are a good person. You won’t tell him, will you?”
The old man smiled, “I won’t.”
“Grandpa, to be honest, I am for money. I owe Ronan a lot of money.” She didn’t know how much Ronan spent to help the Hill family out, so she could only say that she owed a lot of money. She didn’t want to deceive Grandpa. She liked Grandpa. Grandpa was open and kind.
“Girl, you are honest. Well, I won’t expose you but if it is discovered by Ronan, it’s none of my business.” Grandpa looked at her with a smile, which made Halle feel a little uncomfortable. She couldn’t guess what he thought.
“Grandpa, as long as you don’t say, Ronan will not discover it.”
“Well, I promise you, but…”
“But what?” Halle was a bit nervous when the old man paused.
“I haven’t figured it out yet. Anyway, since I promised you not to say anything, then you have to promise me one thing.”
“OK.” She took it as some sort of exchange, and she felt more comfortable this way.
“Whatever it is?”
“You are a good person so you won’t hurt me. I will definitely agree to what you say.” Didn’t he ask her to coax the old man? She coaxed him to be happy now.
It was great if Grandpa felt happy.
“There’s a call. There’s a call.” As they were talking, Halle’s cell phone rang. Halle opened her backpack and took it out. The call was from Ronan.
When she hesitated, the old man said, “Get on the phone. You, young people, have your own lives, and I won’t bother you.”
She had no choice but to answer the phone. She steadily pressed the answer button with her finger. Ronan’s voice came over immediately, “Don’t talk. Just listen to me. Halle, don’t talk to Grandpa too much. You can just talk about the weather, movies, sports, etc. Grandpa is very sharp.”
“Yeah.” She replied with a smile on her lips and looked at Ronan through the glass. He was so close to her but he still had to make a call. Besides, the most terrible thing was that Grandpa already knew everything.
“It’s great that grandpa likes you. Halle, thank you. Well, I hang up.” After saying this, Ronan hung up the phone.
Halle was a little embarrassed. Ronan seemed to be very touched, which made her feel guilty. She had told Grandpa everything.
“Girl, you looked upset. What did he say? Tell me.. I will scold him when we get home later. I can still beat him.” the old man suddenly said when Halle was lost in thought.
“Ah, it’s nothing. Ronan is kind to me.”
“That’s good. We are almost there. Look, we will arrive after turning around. Girl, can you stay here tonight?”
Halle looked at the old man with puzzlement, and then carefully thought about what the old man had said. She heard it right, “Grandpa, sorry, I’m super lazy. Getting up early would be a nightmare to me. I have to go to school tomorrow and here is far from school, so…” Halle tried to refuse without hurting his feelings. She didn’t want to live in their house.
“It’s okay. I will ask Ronan to tell the school to put off your morning class to the second class so that you don’t have to get up very early.”
Halle looked at him with her eyes wide open. She didn’t expect Grandpa to reject her without difficulty.
