The Barnes Group’s fleet marched slowly on the country road. Regan had dismissed the driver and drove the car carrying Reginald and Lochlan himself.
He took a glance at Reginald in the rearview mirror, who was wearing earphones in an unruly expression, listening to his assistant reporting from the headquarter son financial report and the progress of the project. Regan hesitated for a while, then said, “Mr. Reginald, there is something I need to tell you.”
“Go ahead!” Reginald glared at him impatiently. He just hated dilly-dallying.
Regan took a deep breath, and spilled out what he had been dithering as quickly as he could. “I saw Mrs. Barnes when I was looking for Master Lochlan in the market.
“What?” Reginald leaned forward and grabbed Regan in the driver’s seat. Regan immediately lost control of the steering wheel and had to brake suddenly. With no time to react, the car behind crashed on, causing an accident on the road.
Lochlan hid in Reginald’s arms in time, safe and sound. Meanwhile, Reginald still clung to Regan, eyes piercing him. “Who did you say you had seen?”
“Mrs Barnes, Josephine, Master Lochlan saw her clearly…”
Regan stammered.
“Where is she now?”
“I have asked someone to follow her, and found that she drove into the largest old house in the village. I’ll text you the address right away.”
The next second, Reginald got out of the car and walked to the driver’s seat. He grabbed Regan out of his seat, and then got into the car. He hugged Lochlan to the seat beside and buckled up, Reginald drove out of the fleet, turned back and sped forward.
Lochlan asked him with his big and round eyes, “Daddy, are we going to find mommy?”
Reginald drove on furiously, his eyes burning, “She’s not going to escape from me this time!”
The extravagant car, which drove along rows of ranch houses, declared the dignity of its owner in a condescending way.
Most of the villagers, who had rarely seen such a luxurious car, paused their work to appreciate it in twos and threes. Seeing the car stop in front of Josephine’s courtyard, they hissed as if they knew what would happen.
In the yard, Josephine was hanging the dress she had just changed for Myra. Although Nanny Daisy was responsible for the housework, Myra was so naughty that Daisy had to watch her all day. So, she washed and hung her daughter’s clothes herself.
Reginald burst into the courtyard in rage and spotted Josephine, who was facing him sideways, totally unaware of what was happening. Breeze brushed her cheeks, blowing a strand of her hair up. Her flawless face looked even more beautiful at this moment.
Her look hadn’t changed much in the past three years, but what the hell was she wearing? A cheap raggedy skirt with an apron?
She had the guts to run away, but couldn’t she afford herself a better life?
Gritting his teeth, Reginald called out her name, stressing each syllable. “Jo-se-phine.”
Hearing the low, harsh voice, Josephine dropped the clothes in her hands. Turning her head slowly in shock, she met the furious black eyes and her face got pale instantly.
Before she could escape, Reginald dashed to her, clutching her hand and pushing her body against the wall. He glared at her and said slowly, gritting his teeth, “I’ve finally found you. And this is how you treat my daughter? Living in this shitty hellhole, suffering with you, for three years?
Josephine, you got a lot of balls. This time, don’t think I’ll let you off the hook!”
Then, he grabbed her arm, trying to drag her out, but Josephine struggled desperately. She shouted with a frown, “Psycho, you have the wrong person. Let me go!”
Ignoring her struggle, Reginald turned around, hooked his hand to the bend of her leg, and then carried her on his shoulder. Both of his arms pressed firmly on her fidgeting legs to suppress them.
Josephine screamed out of fear, “Help……”
