Abby was so excited that she was in a state of excitement almost all night. Even her dream was full of joy. Finally, it was time to get to work the next day. Abby went out with the delicate box.
But when she arrived at the company, she heard something unexpected.
Brian was on a business trip!
And she heard that he went to City A and he couldn’t come back at noon.
Abby Jones’s good mood was ruined. Now she was like a balloon being deflated and was frustrated the whole morning.
“Hey—”
Luka Brown came over and said with a puzzled look, “Beautiful Abby, what happened to you today? Why did you look depressed?”
Since the gossip spread in the company, her colleagues had privately referred to Abby as beautiful Abby. Luka didn’t think it was a big deal, so she also called her like that.
At first, Abby would give her a glare and make her change immediately. However, she didn’t care about it anymore over time.
“Nothing.” Abby put down her hand holding her chin.
“Something must have happened. It’s written all over your face.” Luka teased her. She looked around and saw Abby’s box hidden behind the computer screen, which made her eyes light up.
“Wow, what is this?” She said as she stretched out her hand and fished it out. Abby tried to stop her but she still opened it and looked at the delicate small pieces of sweet-scented osmanthus cake which almost made her drool. “I want to eat it. This must be delicious.”
Abby had no choice. Anyway, Brian wouldn’t be back today, so she simply got up and said, “Since you like it, you can have it. I’m going to the bathroom.”
As Abby came out of the bathroom and was on her way back to the office, she saw many people from a distance. All of them were in suits and walked confidently. Abby took a closer look. They were headed by Brian Davies.
Wasn’t he on a business trip? Didn’t he go to another city? I thought he couldn’t come back today.
Until Brain was already standing in front of her, Abby still stared at him with her eyes wide open.
Although Brian looked a bit fatigued after the trip, it didn’t affect his temperament and handsome look. With his slender body leaning forward slightly, he whispered in her ear, “I’ll wait for you on the top floor.”
After he finished speaking, he straightened his waist and strode away steadily and calmly.
It took a long time for Abby to come back to her senses.
Then, she patted her forehead. “Oops!”
The osmanthus cake!
Abby ran back to her desk anxiously, only to find that Luka sat cross-legged and was eating the sweets that she tried so hard to make. As she saw Abby, Luka said with a happy look, “Abby, you’re so good at cooking. The cake is so delicious.”
Abby snatched the remaining cakes from her hand and looked down. “Damn it, there were only three pieces left.” She thought.
“Don’t be so stingy. You told me to eat it.” Luka grinned and wanted to stretch out her hand.
Abby avoided her move, “No, you have eaten enough. I can’t give these to you.” Then she left without paying attention to Luka Brown’s doubts.
When she reached the top floor, Brian was already there, sitting in the spot where he sat yesterday.
He was so fast!
She calmed herself down and walked over.
Brian felt her coming and turned his head, showing a gentle smile though the tiredness in his eyes could still be seen.
Abby leaned her back on the railing. The two of them had the same posture as yesterday. One was facing south and the other was facing north.
“I thought you weren’t coming back today.” Abby’s voice was soft and seemingly shy.
“I promised you that I would come. I’ll never break my promise.”
Abby lowered her head slowly. Her delicate ears quickly went pink.
“I received the news last night that there was something wrong with the branch in City A. I could have gone the next day, but I will definitely not be able to make it back today.”
Abby listened to him quietly. Then she finally realized and asked, “You mean, you went there overnight?”
Brian nodded.
“You didn’t rest until now?” There were some emotions in Abby’s voice.
Did he work so hard just to fulfill this unimportant promise?
No wonder he looked so tired today, but she actually let others eat her sweets…
As Brian noticed her guilty look, he then caught a glimpse of what she was carrying.
“What is this?” He asked, trying to make her stop blaming herself.
“Oh, it’s the thing with magical effect.” Abby came to her senses, turned around, placed the box on the table, and opened it.
There was not much cake left in the box.
“I’m sorry. I wanted to bring these to you. But… I learned that you won’t be back today. The cake will definitely spoil the next day, so I gave my colleagues something to eat.”
The self-blame on Abby Jones’s face didn’t disappear but became a bit deeper.
This was what Brian didn’t want to see.
“It means that the food you made is delicious,” Brian said, reaching for a piece of cake and putting it in his mouth.
Abby stared at him expectantly but didn’t ask what she wanted to ask.
“Um, not bad! It tastes really good.” Brian nodded repeatedly. His handsome face was also full of joy.
“Really? You think it’s delicious too, don’t you?”
Brian nodded repeatedly.
Only then did the self-blame on Abby’s face fade away. She looked proud and happy.
At first, she was worried that Brian wouldn’t like eating these things because his life was lavish as an emperor. He was treated with dignity.
She reached out and tucked her hair behind her ears. She said with a little confidence and pride, “I used to be nervous in school when I was studying, and I often forgot to eat and suffered from stomach problems. Every time my stomach hurts, Renee will make this for me. I would feel much better after I ate it. Now, how do you feel?”
Brian was suddenly moved.
Actually, what he was referring to yesterday was that he didn’t feel comfortable with his heart. But she actually misunderstood him and thought it was his stomach!
However, seeing how she cared about him so seriously, Brain suddenly felt something strange. Moreover, there was no need to ask. Brian could be sure that these sweets must be made by herself.
“I think it’s very good!”
Brian smiled gently.
Abby also smiled.
Three pieces of sweet-scented osmanthus cakes were quickly finished by Brain. And he felt that it was still not enough. This seemed to be the best food he had ever eaten in his life.
“How can I thank you?” Brian wondered how to speak perfectly so that she could not find an excuse to reject him.
