She felt deeply hurt when Kenneth didn’t even look at her before leaving without saying goodbye. Was their conversation earlier just a joke? The way he acted, it was as if they didn’t even know each other. She stood up and followed him, but suddenly hesitated, so she decided to call him instead. While waiting for Kenneth to answer her call, she felt extremely nervous.
“So that’s it then?” she asked anxiously.
“Yes,” was the only response from him.
Sabrina couldn’t help but think of going back inside to bid farewell to her assistant. Didn’t he know how difficult it was for her to set aside her pride? She waited for a few seconds for his response, but he just said “yes”? My god! She might turn into a criminal on Meghan’s resort opening day. She hopped on her scooter and quickly started it. When she arrived home, she rushed inside. Her mother greeted her with a furrowed brow.
“Mom, where’s Scarlet?” She should have been looking for Kenneth, but she felt embarrassed in front of her mother, thinking she seemed too eager to talk to the man.
“She’s still sleeping. Why? Did something happen at the resort?”
Sabrina wondered why Kenneth hadn’t arrived home yet, even though he left before her. Where did he go? “Ah, nothing, I just miss her,” she lied before going up the stairs to her room.
She took a deep breath as she pushed open the door to her room, and her shoulders slumped even more when she saw her child sleeping peacefully. It was almost four o’clock in the afternoon, so she started to worry about where Kenneth could be. But wait, did she have the right to worry about him? She convinced herself that he might have encountered some delay on the way, but who was she fooling? The resort was nearby, and he could have easily walked there.
She went straight to the bathroom to take a shower, preparing for Kenneth’s possible arrival. She showered quickly and then headed to the closet to choose what to wear. She wanted to show a little cleavage or wear super short shorts, but she worried that he would just laugh at her.
In the end, she chose a lightweight romper with spaghetti straps. She pretended it was just her casual home attire, as if she wasn’t expecting any visitors, but the truth was she felt sexy in that romper, especially with her thighs on display. Kenneth had a weakness for that, as well as her plump buttocks.
After getting dressed, she went to the door to unlock it and sat next to Scarlet. Remembering their conversation in the lobby earlier, she deeply regretted it. Why did she say that? If only she had been honest, then it would have been settled! Maybe something had already happened between them during those hours.
She was exhausted from their preparations with Meghan last night, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t fall asleep. As the sky slowly darkened, her mind remained awake, and above all, she continued to wait for Kenneth.
Sabrina got up and closed the windows to prevent mosquitoes from entering their room. While gazing at the peaceful sleeping Scarlet, she almost woke her up when she heard footsteps outside the door. Pretending to be asleep, she waited for the person to come in. She covered her face with a pillow when the whole room suddenly lit up before getting up.
“Oh, it’s you, Mom.” Her voice was weak as she spoke to her mother because she had expected someone else to come.
“Kenneth is downstairs and he said he wants to have dinner with Scarlet,” Margaret announced Kenneth’s arrival.
Sabrina smiled upon hearing the man’s name and eagerly tied her newly colored hair. “I’ll just go to him,” she calmly said, although her heart was pounding with nervousness.
“Sabrina, wait,” Margaret tried to stop Sabrina, but she suddenly disappeared. She left as fast as lightning, leaving Margaret bewildered. Earlier, Brandon had called and told her not to interfere, but she felt insulted when Kenneth brought a woman to their house. She wanted to confront him, but she didn’t do it because she feared that her love for Sabrina had already vanished from her sight.
Meanwhile, Sabrina had a triumphant smile as she descended the stairs. It was a smile of victory because Kenneth couldn’t resist her and actually came to see her. However, her smile quickly faded when her eyes caught sight of a red dress that she was sure Meghan wouldn’t wear. Could it be Thalia?
She gathered her courage as she descended the stairs, but when she reached the living room, she almost lost consciousness at what she saw. Her hands turned cold, and she wanted to cry, but she held back. She forced herself to stay calm and thought that maybe she was overthinking. She gave a restrained smile to the woman, but when her gaze met Kenneth’s, he barely acknowledged her.
“Scarlet is still sleeping, so maybe next time,” she said in a trembling voice, but she did everything to hide her emotions from Kenneth. The smile remained on her lips, even though her heart felt like it was being crushed by a hammer. She took a deep breath before offering juice to the guests.
“I’ll just come back tomorrow, then” Kenneth said, declining the juice Sabrina offered. The truth was he wasn’t really busy, and he was just going to drop off the woman at the resort.
“I was actually excited to see your daughter, Kenneth,” the woman said in a soft voice.
Actually, Sabrina had wanted to throw a lampshade at Kenneth’s companion a while ago. “Can we talk in private?” Sabrina emphasized the word ‘private’ to make sure the woman understood that she wasn’t part of their conversation.
“Miss Anna, please wait,” Kenneth said to the woman.
“Sure, go ahead, Kenneth.”
Sabrina led Kenneth to the back of the house, where there was a coffee table. The porch would have been a romantic setting, but she knew their meeting wouldn’t be romantic. “Sit down,” she commanded the man.
“No need, this will be quick, right?”
“I said sit down!” Sabrina raised her voice before closing the door leading to the inside of the house, ensuring that no one would hear their conversation. “How dare you bring a woman to this house!”
“Did I do something wrong?”
Sabrina was momentarily stunned by Kenneth’s question, but it quickly passed. “You did something terribly wrong! If you no longer love me, fine, okay! But don’t disrespect my house!”
Kenneth was taken aback by what the woman said because it was untrue. He stood up and faced the angry Sabrina. “What did I do wrong? I tried to win you over earlier, Sabrina, but you rejected me. What do you want to happen? That I remain single forever?”
“Did I say that, Kenneth? All I’m saying is, I hope you wouldn’t bring another woman to this house. Is that so hard to understand? It’s basic!” Sabrina belittled his character.
Kenneth’s ears rang with Sabrina’s words, and his anger grew. “Are you jealous of Anna?” he asked the woman, and she suddenly turned red.
“Why would I be jealous? If you’re happy with her, then be with her. I don’t care,” Sabrina angrily replied.
“It seems like you’re angry,” Kenneth teased Sabrina, and her frown deepened. He wanted to appease Sabrina, but he would follow Brandon’s suggestion to tame the woman.
“I’m not angry because you have someone else. I’m angry because you brought her here when you know that this is where I live!”
“I’m sorry, Sabrina, but I can’t just leave her anywhere,” Kenneth explained.
“Spare me with the details, Kenneth! Anyway, now that we’re really done, I hope our paths won’t cross again. Let’s give ourselves some space,” Sabrina said, even though it hurt her to let him go. But it would be even more painful to continue tying him to a relationship he no longer wanted.
“Yeah, let’s do that. Regarding Scarlet, I want you to know that I won’t neglect her. I’ll just borrow her from you tomorrow,” Kenneth said and took out a passbook from his jacket pocket. He had wanted to give it to Sabrina earlier, but her anger got the better of him.
Sabrina opened the passbook that Kenneth handed her and saw Scarlet’s full name followed by Kenneth’s name. The account was in a trust format, and once Scarlet reached the appropriate age, she would have access to everything in the account. She wanted to be stubborn and end the passbook, but it was Scarlet’s right to be supported by her father.
“Thank you,” Sabrina said and pocketed the passbook.
“Every month, our child’s share from my businesses will go into that account,” Kenneth stated.
Her entire body trembled as she listened to Kenneth. Yes, he spoke calmly, but the pain she felt was deeply penetrating. She didn’t want to believe that they would end up in a real separation. She used to think that she could still fix everything, but it turned out she was too late. She forced a bland smile, holding back her tears in front of him. As she gazed at Kenneth’s face, she was overwhelmed with regret. Was her arrogance excessive?
“Thank you for everything,” she preemptively said to him and left him on the porch.
