Kenneth attempted to talk to Sabrina again, but she firmly rejected his plea. He had no choice but to be content with watching her from a distance. He sighed several times as he reflected on his actions towards Sabrina, wincing as he realized that it was unlikely he would be given another chance. Perhaps if he had restrained himself a few days earlier, they wouldn’t have reached this point of separation.
“Excuse me, sir.”
His reflection on the past was interrupted when a woman suddenly appeared in front of him. Before acknowledging the woman, who probably just wanted to get his number, he glanced back at Sabrina and his jaw dropped when he saw her sweetly smiling at a guest.
“Sir, this is for you,” the woman said.
Kenneth accepted what the woman gave him and opened it. His forehead furrowed deeper as he read the contents of the letter, and his expression changed for a brief moment.
“What’s this?” he asked the woman as he approached her.
“Don’t you know how to read? It’s clear what I wrote there. I already have someone else, Kenneth.” He didn’t know why he told Kenneth that she had someone new. For what reason? To hurt him?
“Who’s the man you’re referring to? Show him to me before I believe that you really have someone else,” Kenneth challenged Sabrina.
Sabrina laughed at the man’s statement. Who wouldn’t find it amusing? “And why should I listen to you? When you left the house and our life with Scarlet, you took away your right to interfere in my decisions.”
“Tell me what I need to do to be forgiven,” Kenneth pleaded with Sabrina. When he left, he had a different goal in mind, but why did he end up at a disadvantage?
“There’s nothing. There’s nothing more you can do!” Sabrina insisted.
“Impossible!”
Sabrina slammed the table, causing Kenneth to be startled by her action. She was so stubborn, even though she had already been told no. “Leave me alone, Kenneth,” she pointed at him, her anger bursting out.
“Don’t you love me anymore?”
“Maybe I still love you because I’m affected by your presence right now, but that’s where it ends! I’ve made up my mind,” Sabrina said.
“I’ll do everything to have you back,” the man threatened.
“There you go again, but I’m telling you right now, don’t waste your energy because I’ve already made my decision. As you can see, I’m busy right now,” she said, shooing him away as he left.
Kenneth could do nothing but leave. He went to the front desk to book a room, but he was told that they were fully booked, so he left the hotel. He slumped his shoulders as he walked away, but his strength suddenly returned when he bumped into Brandon Hart.
“Sir,” he greeted the old man. Earlier, if it weren’t for Brandon, he would have likely avoided him, but the old man was the first to notice him. Did he come to Claybourne just to get beaten up by Sabrina’s father?
“I’m glad you showed up, Kenneth,” Brandon calmly said to the man he had wanted to beat up for a long time, but he had restrained himself because of his daughter. “I know Sabrina is busy with the promotion of her shop, so it’s better if you go home to be with Scarlet.”
He was about to leave when he received a message from Brandon. His forehead furrowed as he read the lengthy text message. After reading Brandon’s suggestion on what he should do, Kenneth nodded as if he were having a conversation with someone beside him.
There was nothing wrong with what Brandon said because it was also Margaret’s suggestion before. He admitted that Sabrina didn’t think very maturely. She was impulsive and wanted everything to go her way.
Margaret tasked him with teaching Sabrina a lesson, and he tried to do that for a few months, but he was only making things difficult for himself. He missed her every day, but he couldn’t call her.
Kenneth let out a sigh as he got out of the car and went back inside. He went straight to the reception area and didn’t even glance at Sabrina. The resort was fully booked for guests, but Brandon had booked a room for someone.
After checking into the said room, Kenneth passed by Sabrina’s table, giving her a sweet smile as if nothing had happened between them. “I’ll just borrow Scarlet for a while, even just for tonight,” he informed the woman, who furrowed her brows while looking at him.
“Why?”
“Why not? I’ve missed my daughter for a long time,” Kenneth replied, intentionally avoiding mentioning the words “our daughter” to make the woman think he could continue his life without her. He saw how Sabrina’s jaw moved, and he expected her to hit him, but she suddenly smiled. He didn’t expect her to smile, and it made him slightly nervous. What if Brandon’s suggestion failed?
“Just wait a moment, I’ll call my mother so that she won’t be surprised,” Sabrina calmly said, but in truth, she had wanted to punch Kenneth’s face since earlier. Did she really not have the right to be affectionate with him? He quickly turned to her in surprise.
Kenneth couldn’t help but be surprised by Sabrina’s actions. He felt like she was too eager to let him take care of the child. He frowned, thinking that maybe she had a date later tonight.
“It seems like you’re very eager to give Scarlet to me,” he said mischievously.
Sabrina secretly felt pleased that Kenneth fell for her words. She smiled at him again and then turned to her assistant, instructing her to prepare snacks for the two of them. “I have something to do later,” she replied and excused herself to make a call to Margaret. She purposely raised her voice so that Kenneth could hear their conversation. “Okay then,” she added.
“Thank you,” Kenneth replied and immediately left. He didn’t bid farewell to Sabrina as he walked towards the parking lot. Before he could even open the door of his car, his cellphone suddenly rang. “Kenneth speaking,” he said as he answered the call from an unrecognized number.
“So, is that how it’s going to be?”
“Yes,” was his concise answer, and he didn’t waste time looking back at her.
