Sabrina’s mood darkened, casting a shadow over her like the heavy drapes on a window after Kenneth asked her why she wasn’t in love with him. She couldn’t believe his audacity and felt a surge of anger rise within her.
Without another word, she turned and walked away, determined not to give him the idea that she was head over heels with him but her steps faltered when she heard a laughter echoing behind her. He must have assumed she was lying!
Making her way back to her own room, Sabrina’s thoughts raced, consumed by frustration and resentment. Suddenly, Kenneth’s hand grabbed her arm, stopping her in her tracks.
“Hey!” she shouted at him, her voice filled with indignation at his rudeness.
“That was mean, Sabrina,” he said, his tone reproachful.
“What was mean? When did I say I don’t have feelings for you? Let me ask you the same thing, Kenneth. Do you love me? See? You can’t even respond right away, and yet you expected me to have feelings for you. What a bastard,” she retorted, her words were sharp and filled with bitterness but she didn’t give a damn anymore.
“You should apologize to me now,” he demanded, his voice tinged with arrogance.
Sabrina smirked at his audacity. “Apologize? Why should I?” she challenged a defiant fire burning in her eyes. Kenneth balled his fist, his anger evident.
“You hurt Isabelle’s feelings,” he said.
“Oh God, Kenneth. Why should I care about your mistress?”
“Stop saying that she is my mistress, Sabrina, because she is not!”
“Then who is she? I am your wife, so she is the mistress,” Sabrina said.
“She is the woman I love, the woman I want to spend my life with,” he responded.
“Really? Okay? If you say so,” she said, but deep inside her head, she was hurting. His words cut deep into her heart, but she couldn’t even say anything about it. “Then, go and tell her how much you love her, Kenneth, or else, I would be the one to tell Daniel that you love his wife,” she threatened him.
“No, you wouldn’t!”
“Try me,” she said before leaving him alone.
She planned on staying inside her room but her body was already used to doing something, so in the end, she went outside and sauntered toward the kitchen to prepare the ingredients for tomorrow’s meals
Entering the kitchen, she grabbed an upholstered chair and sat down. Sabrina was in the midst of thawing meat when a woman unexpectedly entered the kitchen. Her eyebrows shot up in surprise to see Isabelle’s face again after their confrontation.
“Are you here to apologize to me, Isabelle? You didn’t stay true to your words and let Kenneth know about our confrontation. Why?” she asked, her tone laced with curiosity as she observed Isabelle watching her every move.
“I’m hungry. Can you prepare something good for me?” Isabelle ordered, her words dripping with entitlement.
Sabrina glanced at the clock before smiling at Isabelle. “I don’t take orders from anyone, dear,” she replied firmly but it seemed like Isabelle was offended when she looked down on her as if she was nothing but a whore to her husband.
“I’m not just anyone, and you know that!” she retorted, her voice filled with indignation.
“Just because you’re his favorite in bed doesn’t make you special, Isabelle,” Sabrina retorted, making it clear that she would never take orders from anyone, especially Kenneth’s mistress.
“You wait until I become his wife!” Isabelle threatened, her voice laced with determination.
Sabrina nodded, seemingly agreeing with Isabelle, before smirking at her. “How are you going to do that? Have you forgotten that you are a married woman, Isabelle? Have you forgotten about Daniel?”
“I always get what I want, Sabrina. Watch me how I am going to take your husband away from you,” Isabelle warned Sabrina.
“Bring it on, bitch,” Sabrina responded.
“Do you want to know the things that Kenneth and I do while you are sleeping, Sabrina? I bet you can’t imagine those things,” Isabelle said.
“Are you sure? Have you forgotten what he did to me on our wedding night? If you think that Kenneth is in love with you just because he was good in bed, just remember what happened on our wedding night, Isabelle. He made love to me as if he truly loved me. Why do you think you are so special?”
“Shut up!”
Sabrina rolled her eyes at Isabelle’s stubbornness. “Whatever,” she said dismissively. “If you’re done talking, please leave. Otherwise, I’ll be forced to return to my room, and we can all skip our dinner later,” she threatened, asserting her dominance. “I am sure you don’t want to make Lorraine angry because she can’t have her favorite dish.”
Isabelle glared at Sabrina, enraged by her superiority, but she knew it was best to leave her alone. “I hate you,” she spat before storming out.
“The feeling is mutual, dear,” Sabrina replied, her voice filled with disdain.
Once Isabelle was gone, Sabrina finally breathed a sigh of relief. The encounter with the stubborn had tested her patience, and she had come dangerously close to losing her composure. As she continued cooking, she couldn’t help but wonder why Kenneth allowed his mistress to wander freely around the manor.
Trying to regain her composure amidst the storm of emotions within her, Sabrina focused on cooking without a hitch. As usual, she ate alone and then set up the dining hall before retreating to her room.
In the solitude of her space, she lay on her bed, feeling motionless. Thoughts of Kenneth and Isabelle flooded her mind, and tears welled up in her eyes once more. Regardless of the brevity of their relationship, her feelings for him had been genuine.
The following day, she lied about not getting well so she had the excuse to stay inside her bedroom. She wasn’t obliged to help with the household chores either!
It was around four in the afternoon when Sabrina decided to venture outside. She didn’t expect to come face-to-face with Kenneth and Isabelle in the hallway. Initially, she planned to ignore them, but Kenneth spotted her first and called out her name. His companion smiled at her, and Sabrina forced herself to return the smile, even though she didn’t want to.
“Yes, Kenneth?” she responded as he approached her.
“Are you going to the kitchen now?” he inquired.
