Chapter 72- Family warmth

Book:Their End, My Beginning Published:2024-5-1

Though the journey to my mom’s house was only 20 mins. To me it felt like 2 days road trip.
I have absolutely no idea as to why I am feeling too tired. Yeah, I have only been discharged for like 24 hours but still my body’s feeling too weak. Wasn’t I feeling okay before discharging?
The surge of strength I got when I dealt with the trio villains are extinguished by now. Might be the adrenaline. But still I feel like something’s off.
Is it the effect of lingering drug in my system?
“There that’s the house.” Uncle pointed at a 2 storey house.
I pulled over to the driveway while admiring the house.
Though this house is way less extravagant than my dad’s family house. I could feel the cosiness in this house.
And I haven’t even entered yet.
Uncle got out while I turned the engine off as Amanda too got off.
I could feel the tiredness in my body going away as I looked at the surroundings.
Even if the houses in this lane are very close to each other separated by just a fence with maximum 3m gap in between the fence and the house. I could feel the friendliness and the closeness in the area.
The fact that I haven’t properly met my mom’s parents is something that’s baffling me, as I felt these surge of emotions in me.
“Is she here!” I turned to look at the female shrieking as the door opened.
“My God! She’s here. Hi sweetheart! My god! Nathaniel what happened to your arm? Are you hurt? How? When-”
“Bella one thing at a time darling.” The older man chuckled while interrupting the old female’s ramblings, making us laugh.
“Mom I will explain later, can you take Katherine and Amanda to Nina’s room?” Uncle groaned while moving inside.
Poor him! It must be hurting like hell.
“Get Serina to help you with that wound.” She shouted before turning to me. She walked towards me as I looked at her. She looks just like I saw her 3 months back.
“My sweetheart!” She exclaimed before enveloping me in a very tight hug. I could feel all the tiredness in me fade away completely.
I felt tearing up as I hugged her back tightening my hold on her. It’s been too long since I felt a motherly hug. She makes me remind me of Amanda’s mother. Who had been my strength after my parents departure.
“Darling, before you suffocate her in you bear hug. Let’s take them upstairs.” Grandpa said as he pulled grandma to release me from her very warm hug, that I instantly became addicted to.
“Oh! Hush you.” She playfully chastises him while still holding me in her arms.
“Its been a long time since I last saw you. How are you dear?” She asked me.
“I am fine grandma.” I replied trying to keep my tears at bay.
The last, I saw her was during the funeral 3 months back. It does kind of feel like too long back.
“And this must be your friend. Hi sweetie, I am Daniel, Katherine’s mother’s, father.” Grandpa beamed at her.
See I told you. This house is cosy because of their friendliness.
“Ah! Yes. Aunt had said a lot about you. Finally I got to put a face to the person she loved talking about. I am Amanda.” She said while extending her hand only for him to bat it away making her confused for a second before he pulled her in for a hug.
And for the first time since we came here I finally saw Amanda being comfortable and not tensed. This is the effect they have on people. I think even the most stone hearted person would melt in their presence.
He pulled back from the hug while both me and grandma who had her arms around my waist looked at them with smile on both of our faces.
“Sorry I am a hug person.” He smiled sheepishly.
“So that’s where Aunt Nina got that from.” She laughed.
“You silly old man. Hi sweetie, I am Bella, which you must have already heard from the old man here. You don’t miss any chance to hug beautiful girls huh!” She elbowed grandpa playfully while grandpa playfully acted like he was hurt. So this where my mom got her playfulness and drama from.
“I am Nina’s mom, this cupcake’s grandma.” She said while going to hug Amanda.
“Come inside kids. You must be hungry.” She said while ushering all of us inside.
“She doesn’t know about your hospital incident.” Uncle Nath said as I sat beside him at the dining table.
“I figured so.” I said while I looked at Uncle Nath who had a bandaged arm wearing a wife beater with his flannel shirt draped over his shoulder.
When grandma had bombarded him with her questions, I did wonder if she knew about me.
But I figured it out as she didn’t usher me inside and pampered me like she is now with Uncle Nath.
It really is a funny sight seeing how annoyed uncle is from grandma babying him.
I looked towards grandpa to see him pursing his lips tight in attempts to not laugh. But from the glare of my grandma he quickly changed his expression and looked at us while trying his hardest not to look at the mother-son scene.
Seeing the scene before me, grandma tending to an injured uncle, grandpa pampering both Amanda and me, it creates a very warm and fuzzy feeling.
This is what I had always wanted.
The one that makes me miss them more.
