Chapter 70.2- safe

Book:Their End, My Beginning Published:2024-5-1

“Good morning Ms. Marshal.” Said the doctor as she came inside the room.
“Ms. Marshal the intubation tube will be removed now. I want you to relax or it can be very uncomfortable.” She says while checking the tab hanging in front of the bed.
After she’s done reading she signals the nurse.
As it was removed I coughed couple of times. Even coughing hurts.
“Here drink this.” Amanda says as she hands me the cup.
The cool water was like a blessing in disguise.
“How do you feel?” The doctor inquired.
“I don’t know. Numb?” I croaked. Amanda handed me another cup.
“Its the sedation. I would suggest you to slow down even the water intake for a while to get your body accustomed.” The doctor advised.
“Do you remember what happened?” She asked.
“Yeah. The kidnapping, Uncle and Amanda saving me. I also heard some of what you said when I was down.” I said the last part while looking at Amanda, to which tears formed in her eyes.
“Okay. So no signs of neurological problems then.” Doctor noted.
She also made me move my limbs and declared I can be discharged the next day. Though I would like to go home I know this 24- hour observation is important so I didn’t make a fuse. Though I don’t think it would have changed anything.
When the doctor and the nurse left Amanda sat beside me staring at my face.
“Stop staring. I am okay.” I said uncomfortable with the sadness and the guilt in her eyes.
“If only I could have reached earlier.” She cried as Neo rubbed her back after giving her a glass of water.
“You helped me when I was unconscious. Which itself is a great help for me. Though I didn’t understand the antidote part. Who is ‘he’ that you were talking about? What happened?” I asked.
She looked at Neo in panic, but Neo stood there calmly as if he had expected my question. He nodded at her as she got up and walked towards the washroom.
“It was me she was talking about. I gave the antidote. I heard about BlackJack’s current CEO trying to sue you. And after learning about the kidnapping, I knew it had to do with them. When Amanda told me about the drug in your body, I called in a favour from my friend and he made the antidote. Though it doesn’t nullify the drug effect completely it could hide the drug, and since they couldn’t find any evidence of the drug in you, BlackJack had to drop the case or else they knew they would be caught for kidnapping.” He explained.
“Indeed they planned it out well. Catching me for the act they kidnapped me for. All for the inheritance.” I snorted.
I looked at Amanda as she came out of the washroom. I continued to look at her, but she didn’t spare me a glance and went to the containers Neo had brought in earlier. Yet I could see her body tensing as if she could feel my stare.
What is she hiding again?
But the one thing I know is, I would figure it out when the time’s right.
I was taken out of my thoughts when I heard the door open and close as uncle Nath came in. It didn’t go unnoticed how Amanda got even more tensed in his presence. Might be because he is still a stranger to her.
“How do you feel Kat?” Uncle Nath asked as he came inside.
“Numb.” I replied. “I think I found one of the co-CEO of BlackJack.” I said to everyone.
“Mike huh?” Amanda asked as she brought the plate with little food to me. She is going to listen to the doctor word by word now. Jesus the next few days is going to be hell.
“Yeah. It was those witches who drugged me and brought me to the place. Those men had talked about a man giving them orders. And before the whole scenario, Grandpa told us about Mike’s arrival to work in dad’s company. Yet we never heard about it. So definitely the man behind it is Mike. The company that must be linked to him is BlackJack.” I said as I sat straight to dig in my food. I am starving.
“It most definitely wont be from your mom’s company seeing that we have shares in the company just like your dad’s siblings. So they cant make decisions In the company without us.” Uncle chimes in.
“The only company left is BlackJack since there’s no other company against us. And looking at the timeline it matches.” Neo pitched in as well.
“Ryder’s co. is also against us.” Uncle Nath reminded us.
“It’s definitely not him.” Both Amanda and Neo screeched earning uncle’s and my confused eyes. “We mean, he wouldn’t stoop that low.” Amanda said.
“After seeing him there I wouldn’t be putting it past him.” I said.
“But it won’t be him if the witches handed you to those men. You think the witches would allow someone else to join in and take their credit?” Amanda added.
“So it’s definitely not Ryder.” I said resigned.
“How do you feel?” Amanda asked as she came to sit beside me.
“Like I want some answers. And for some people to pay.”
