Chapter 70- safe

Book:Their End, My Beginning Published:2024-5-1

“Kat stop! It’s me. You are safe.” A very familiar voice yelled trying to calm me down.
I looked up to see Uncle Nat looking at me in worry. Amanda came running to us with police just behind her.
“Kat! Are you okay?” Amanda asked just as uncle had let me go seeing that I came back to my senses.
I shook my head as I couldn’t find the strength in me to talk. I looked around as the policemen captured the kidnappers. Some tried to escape while the ones I kicked in their balls were still crouched and walked in pain.
“Did you-” Amanda asked proudly seeing the guys holding their precious jewel as they were getting seated in the police car.
I could feel a piercing gaze on me from a distance. I looked around to see Ryder looking at me with a blank face.
Seeing me look at a distance Uncle Nat and Amanda looked towards the same direction.
“What is he doing here?” Uncle asked.
From my peripheral vision I could see Amanda shrugging.
“From the looks of it, he has been here for a long time. Why didn’t he call the police or has done anything?” He asked.
I could feel him speaking something else though I couldn’t figure out what as I felt becoming unconscious.
Thank God, that the drug took time to exert its complete effect.
I could hear shouts and hands around me as I succumbed to the darkness.
I am safe now.

“When is she going to wake-”
I am awake.
“We are sorry we tried our best to take the drug off her system. The amount in her was just too much.”
What drug? Why can’t I feel anything.
“We had to put her in drug-induced coma. Or the withdrawal is something she wont be able to handle.”
It’s not for you to decide. Get me up.
I am scared.
“We can’t assure you that she still wont be suffering any withdrawal, but I can say that the effect wont be this excruciating. Sorry. It’s all we could do.”
NO! I am awake. Just help me to open my eyes. I cant even when I try to. I can’t bear this darkness.
I could feel something pulling me back. Once again I had to succumb to the darkness.

“So now those men are in jail. Apparently they did have quite some backup that it took longer than we expected to lock them up.”
“When are you going to wake up. I am so bored.” She whined trying to hide her sobs, yet I could hear her clearly.
But I need to sleep more I am tired.

“No, you can’t check her. Cant you see she’s in coma?” she shouted.
“Ma’am. Don’t stop us let us do our work. Or you will be facing the consequences.” An unfamiliar person shouted back.
“Let them Amanda,” Uncle Nath said.
I don’t know what’s happening but the noises are becoming unbearable.
“We will come back with the results.” Someone said. Did they get what they want?
“I’ll be outside.” Uncle Nath said.
“Thank god. If he hadn’t given the antidote. They would have found the drug in your body. Though it’s ridiculous that they can take your inheritance and lock you up because you were drugged by the same people who are suing you.
And now because of him, we don’t have to deal with it, since the antidote hides the drug. Only if it could have taken it out completely.
You can sleep now, I won’t let anyone take what’s yours.”
I do trust her with my life.
My trust in her made me to peacefully sleep again

Chirp… Chirp…
Can someone shut the damn bird it’s too annoying.
When was the window in my room ever been opened. I try to slowly open my eyes, only to close it quickly because of the blinding rays.
I hissed but opened my eyes again. With the smell of the antiseptics and the annoying beeping sound close to my ear I understood I am in a hospital.
The last thing I remember is seeing Ryder before I passed out.
As I try to remember the events that occurred before seeing him I could hear a shuffling to my left. I turn to see Amanda waking up. She opened her eyes to look at me.
I looked at her as she continued to look back at me.
“Hey.” She greeted with her sleepy voice before she closed her eyes to sleep again, only for her to open her eyes quickly, properly waking up this time.
“You woke up.” Amanda squealed making me wince.
“Sorry.” She apologized sheepishly before she began to run to the door only to collide with Neo.
They both moved back from the impact with him wrapping her in his arms in reflex. That’s when I saw he has containers in his hands. Just then a nurse too bumped into him from behind as well.
“Why is everyone bumping into me early in the morning.” Neo complained. The nurse glares at him before she continued to walk towards me. Neo and Amanda apologizes to her before he came to my side. He nodded at me before going to set the table with the containers in his hands.
“You knew that she woke up?” Amanda asked shocked as the nurse came beside me checking the devices.
“Yeah. I heard the change in the beeps and went to call the nurse. As usual you were sleeping through it. No matter even in hospital you can sleep soundly.” Neo chuckled ruffling her hair.
“Sorry.” She apologized.
“Good morning Ms. Marshal.” Said the doctor as she came inside the room.
