*Kat’s POV
“Look whose finally here.” Says an unfamiliar voice as Amanda and I enter the dining hall.
“Dahlia, please.” Grandpa chastises the owner of the voice. I remember dad telling me about his two siblings. Dad being the eldest, Aunt Dahlia the next and Uncle Mark the youngest.
“Were we that late?” Amanda whispers curiously, as we take a seat at the table.
Yeah, we were late for like 1 min but I don’t think that’s what Aunt was talking about.
” Why are you stopping Dahlia, Steven? She is right. The princess has finally found some time to spare from her busy schedule to be with us. We should be honoured by her presence.” Grandmother sneers.
“Seriously, are they so punctual that they are humiliating us for being late for –” Amanda stops whispering to check the time.
” barely 1 minute!!” Amanda continued. I don’t think its about coming to dinner after 1 minute.
“I think it would save all of us a lot of time if you stop beating around the bush and come straight to the point , grandmother.” I retorted while addressing her with distaste in my tone.
I already am maddened by the fact that she had turned my dad’s room to her storage room, though from the appearance of all the worn out dresses and scrambled tags, plastics and used papers it might have been her waste room.
It’s not like I expected a well kept room containing his childhood things especially from those people who didn’t bother to maintain contact, but still it hurts. If this is what they did to his room I cant begin to imagine how she might have treated him.
” Don’t call me that. I don’t have a grandkid from that bastard. The correct way to address me would be Mrs. Black.” She said hauntingly.
“Okay, Natalie.” I replied to which Amanda snickered. I could see her glaring at both of us, as I went to get food onto my plate. I am way famished than I thought to be.
I turned to look at Amanda to see her masking her laugh, at Natalie’s glare, by coughing while she too was filling up her plate.
It really is funny to see how Natalie’s face turned red with anger, because I refused to acknowledge her demand to call her the madam Black.
Even after gathering everything I needed I could still sense her glare to which I paid no attention to. How she must be wishing for that glare to affect us. Sorry Natalie we are too thick-skinned to let anything effect us.
I know it might be childish to act this way. But respect should be earned and right now she has lost even the little bit of respect I had for her as my grandmother. Though the way they behave-
“You little piece of -.” Dahlia shouted.
– Is as if my dad is not a member of this family.
“Dahlia, language !” Grandpa chastises her again.
This kind of welcome is definitely not because they are angry my parents eloped.
“You little shit of that bastard how dare you…” Natalie began cursing me and my dad together making Amanda tremble in anger.
“Mom we can’t expect much from the daughter off that ill- mannered brother of mine, right?” Dahlia said with disgust while looking at my grandpa, who just lowered his head while listening to both the daughter-mother pair insult my dad? Why is he silent? Does he agree with what they are saying?
Even god got tired of the bastard’s existence that he called him back. But I think he was called back too late. We had to suffer him for so long. Poor us!” Dahlia snickered. Atleast they are claiming he is in heaven.
When Grandpa was about to say something, Natalie silenced him with her glare, to which he clenched his fist tightly.
It is funny how she is talking about my dad being ill-mannered while using such a cheap move to disrespect the dead. Even if he was their enemy it was a despicable move.
