Book:A DASH OF TEMPTATION Published:2024-6-2

Six days, Bonnie thought.
It has been six days since she had reluctantly said goodbye to the man she loved. Six days she’d spent trying to keep him out of her mind and move on… except that plan kept failing because even though she was trying, she hoped that he would at least give her a call to check on her, but he hadn’t. In fact, judging by his actions so far, he seemed really okay with it. She knew that he called Michael regularly just to see how well the job was going, but that didn’t mean anything because not once did he even ask to speak to her.
Her emotions were all over the place. She went from neutral to sad to angry and then back to neutral. Right now, she was angry and she was done making assumptions from his actions. If there was one thing she’d learnt from this, it was that jumping into conclusions without any conversation was just setting yourself up to get hurt… and that was what she’d done simply because he’d been nice to her on his boat… she had jumped into conclusions that he had the same feelings for her and ended up getting her heart broken. She’d cried her eyes out, mostly in the middle of the night…. missing him terribly and wishing he was there to hold her and console her
Hoping he’d come to his senses one day and see things the way she did, but she had to admit the truth to herself at some point. They were done for good….
Bonnie had contemplated reaching out to David herself, but judging from the way they separated, she knew it was going to be useless. David was strong willed and stubborn, and she knew that once he set his mind on something, it was almost impossible to try to get him to change his mind. She had tried several times and failed so she decided to find a way to move on, but Michael’s presence wasn’t making it easy as he was a constant reminder of her situation with David. Michael didn’t speak much. In fact, he only spoke when necessary and Bonnie found it tiring.
They had just returned from grocery shopping, so Bonnie headed for the kitchen with the bag in her hands. It was full, since this was the first time she was shopping since she’d returned. She dropped the heavy bag on the kitchen counter and went to the fridge to grab a bottle of water. She was halfway through the bottle before she noticed something weird about the back door. It was slightly ajar, and Bonnie was sure it wasn’t that way before she left.
Although she didn’t want to take David’s warning about her being in danger seriously, she had also made a mental note to herself to be careful. Michael too was so security conscious so it was even harder for her to slip up.
Bonnie quietly dropped the bottle on top of the fridge and headed to the door to investigate. The door creaked as she softly closed it, but when her eyes landed on the window and she saw the broken glass, she knew that something was horribly wrong. She turned immediately to go get Michael, but she was too late. Right in front of her was a man in a dark hoodie and blue Jean trousers, and he had a gun pointed right at her.
Bonnie squealed, but he was fast too. He pushed her against the wall and trapped the scream with his palm against her mouth. “Shut up” he whispered hoarsely, “Or I swear I will put a bullet right through you and believe me when I say this. I’d love nothing more to do this right now, but I’d love it more to see the look on that bastard’s face when I do it.”
Bonnie nodded quickly, too stunned to do anything else and so damn afraid for her life. She wondered where Micheal was and hoped he would come to her aid. She didn’t have to hope for too long because he showed up that instant, but as she feared, he didn’t know something was wrong so he walked right into trouble. The man didn’t hesitate. He released her for a split second. Only to fire at Micheal who didn’t have his pistol ready. The bullet hit him on his left side, right above his stomach and he fell to the floor with a thud.
Bonnie screamed. Never in her life had she ever seen anything of the sort. She’d never seen anyone get shot and the sight of the blood that immediately started to pour from the wound on Michael’s body was traumatizing enough for her. She ran forward towards Michael but before she could reach him, the man grabbed her again.
This time Bonnie fought back. She struggled to free herself and she did for a second, but the man grabbed her, pulled her down on the floor and fell on top of her, then he shoved his knee between her legs. With massive effort, she brought her knee up and kicked him hard in the groin. He groaned in pain and let go of her. But apparently she didn’t hit him hard enough because as she jumped up from the floor, he caught her and hit her across the face. While she was still reeling from the pain, he slammed her back down, pinning her with his hand. Barely conscious of her face anymore, Bonnie stared wordlessly. Blackness threatened, the room seemed to tilt.
“Bitch” the man said, baring his teeth. He grabbed the front of her shirt. Buttons flew. Bonnie screamed. A loud, blood curdling sound that filled the space between them. She kept on screaming until he shoved a hand, the one he had been using to pin her down, across her mouth. She bit him, hard, and struggled into a sitting position.
“Listen to me, damn it” she said. He pushed her, but she shook herself free. “Just listen to me. Look, you have to let me help him, please… he’s going to die if you don’t”
“Oh for God’s sake.” the man swore. He hit her again. “Shut up, Bitch. I said shut the fuck up”
Bonnie felt something warm trickle from her mouth. Her lip was starting to swell. She jabbed him in the groin again, using all the strength she could muster this time. He let her go as he groaned in pain. Then she got up and ran to the back door.
She yanked it open. She had one leg out already when he came behind her again and placed his hand over her nose and mouth. She tried to fight again but she couldn’t… her head was really messed up from him hitting her. He pulled her back inside, then he hit her on the head with something hard.
Bonnie passed out.
