“In my house.” Karina raised her eyebrows with a little disdain.
Aunt Rachel hurriedly called Kingsley as she couldn’t contact Nora in such a late time. The man was silent for a while and chuckled, “Where was she?”
“She had fallen asleep. You could talk to me if you had something to say.”
“To you?” Kingsley gave a faint smile, “I really had something to tell you…”
After a short pause, his smile became much colder and he said, “Jayden Sutton was going to be released from the prison. You had to be careful.”
Kingsley’s words were like a basin of cold water in the winter pouring thoroughly to her. Karina was immediately stuck there. Her throat was like being filled with ice slag. She didn’t know what to say.
Jayden… Jayden!
That man…
“I heard that you had collided with the guard. You were going to set him up, weren’t you?”
“So what?” Karina sneered, “If he still dared provoke me, I would put him in his place.”
Then she abruptly hung up the phone. She threw it aside and went to the bar to drink a glass of red wine.
The night outside was dark and quiet. Karina stood by the French window, looking at the flowing river outside. With a cold smile, she raised her head and drank a whole glass of red wine.
Four years ago, Karina had a party with friends in a bar. When waking up, she found that there was a man next to her and she didn’t wear anything. After that, she sent him to the jail relying on her King family background for the charge of rape.
Jayden had been sentenced for four years and now it was time to… be discharged from the jail.
Nora finished bathing and walked out of the bathroom. She saw Karina standing alone by the French window and looking outside. Then she wiped the water from her hair and asked, “Why were you standing there?”
Karina looked back at her and took a glance at the phone on the sofa, saying “Your husband gave you a phone call.”
“Oh!” Nora went over and said, “Did he say anything?”
“Nothing but asking where you were.”
Nora held the cell phone and asked Karina probingly, “Did he let me go back home?”
“No, he didn’t.” Karina said honestly.
Nora was a little disappointed. She sat on the sofa and looked at the records of phone call. The record showed the communication time of less than tens of seconds. Then she put the phone aside and silently wiped his hair with a dry towel.
Karina came over and put the crystal cup on the tea table. She looked at her with a disappointed and lonely face, saying, “I didn’t quite understand why a man could control your moods and made you sad, disappointed and lonely. However, you still wanted to stay with him. Why did you love him?”
Nora said, “Of course you didn’t understand. You didn’t love men or women. All you preferred were money, your position in the company and your level among shareholders.”
Karina patted Nora on the shoulder and she said, “If you couldn’t bear with him, you could actually get divorced. You would be free as much as I was. It was a trouble to have a boyfriend or a husband.”
Nora didn’t fully understand what happened to Karina when she was in the United States those years. What made Karina’s attitude to men have such a big change was quite a mystery.
Karina was born in a wealthy family and the King family was also famous in A city. But the internal struggle of the King family was fierce. Karina was an only daughter and was cultivated as the heir since childhood. In fact, she liked design as much as Nora did, but finally she chose financial investment and worked as an intern in her own company after graduating from the university.
Although she was dismissive of Nora’s behavior, she still raised her eyebrows and said, “Give him a call yourself!”
Nora shook her head and said, “Well no. He didn’t necessarily want me to call him back. Maybe he was playing with a certain little star. I would spoil him if calling him, wouldn’t I?”
“That was what you were doing.”
Nora sighed and said, “I only had these capabilities. Oh, I was ready to live here for a few days. Let’s go to Allure Restaurant on Saturday. It was just my treat.”
“It was rare for you to be so generous. No problem.”
Nora stayed up for two days. On Saturday night, Kingsley called back.
Seeing the mobile display writing three words, Nora hesitated for a few seconds. When the bell rang for the second time, she picked up the phone.
The man’s voice on the other side of the phone was still indifferent, “Did you come back?”
He cut to the chase.
Nora had already made up her mind about the words before. Now she said calmly, “Yes, I did. But a few days later.”
Kingsley’s voice said like talking to a child, “How many days?”
“I didn’t know!”
“Nora!” the man’s voice finally intensified with a hint of anger, “You were getting bolder and had capabilities now, weren’t you?”
“I would definitely go back as long as I wanted. I just stayed with my friends for a few days.” She grumbled and added with low voice, “You didn’t go back anyway so why did you care whether I went back or not?”
The last sentence was more like a soliloquy. Kingsley couldn’t hear it clearly and asked, “What did you say?”
“Nothing.” Nora wussed out. She said, “Be at ease. I would return. I knew you would miss me if you couldn’t see me.”
As soon as she had said these words, she heard the man’s contemptuous voice.
Kingsley lived to this age and saw many women from daughters in the noble family to gentle women. It was his first time to see the one who was thick-skined without much self-knowledge like Nora.
Kingsley pursed his lips and smiled coldly. His voice was low but menacing, “Well, don’t come back if I couldn’t meet you before the end of the week.”
“I knew!” Nora stuck out her tongue and thought that he was as sharp as before. She had to do what he said!
On Saturday night, Karina invited several friends including Jonathan Blake to go to the Allure Restaurant together.
When walking into the hall, they were confronted with Elson, who was the general manager of Allure Restaurant.
“Oh, you two beauties. Long time no see!”
Elson looked like a gay but he was friendly. He was Karina’s friend and then got familiar with Nora.
“Yes, Master Elson. We came over tonight to sing songs. Were there any discount?”
Elson thumped his chest and said, “Now that Beauty Karina requested it, how about you sang as much as you wanted and all the drinks were free?”
“Nice one, Master Elson.” Karina gave thumbs up and asked, “Which floor was Jonathan on?”
“Oh, he was on the fifth floor. I would show you.”
Jonathan had turned on all the stereo equipment in a box and there was full of drinks and snacks on the table. When he saw two people coming in, he shouted, “Come and sit here, Miss Cole and Miss King.”
On the first day of the Junior Three, someone didn’t like Korina and wanted to teach her a lesson. Just on that day after school, Nora and Karina went together and suddenly they were surrounded by a group of boys. At that critical moment, Jonathan came to help and save them. So from then on, three students became good friends. Jonathan was younger than Nora and Karina so he was their little brother.
Nora was like sitting in a roller coaster these days with ups and downs. She opened a can of beer and drank hard despite the fact that she was in her period.
On the other side, Jonathan’s hand trembled a little bit while rolling dice after seeing Nora’s strange behaviors. He asked Karina with a frightened face, “She… was stimulated by what?”
