After hearing Nora’s pretentious words, Kingsley didn’t express himself.
Nora gave him a glance and said seriously, “How could you marry others as you had got married? It was irresponsible for these Medias to report something with no basis. They damaged your personal image.”
Kingsley looked ahead calmly. He suddenly said with a half-smile, “I could get divorced after marriage.”
Instantly, Nora stopped talking. She opened her mouth slightly and became dazed for a moment. Then she felt a sense of acerbity and grievance. She bit her lips tightly, saying in a pale voice, “Didn’t you say that I saved a lot of time for you from your mother?”
She meant that she did a good job as a wife. The divorce could be reconsidered.
Seeing Kingsley didn’t say any more, Nora said again, “I wouldn’t interfere with you. You could do whatever you wanted.”
She had made it clear that she didn’t want to get divorced.
But Kingsley just sneered at her, thinking that she would rather gain a little money than lose dignity.
His slender fingers turned the steering wheel. After a while, Kingsley said, “You didn’t want to get divorced, did you?”
“No, I didn’t.” Nora replied.
“What was your reason!” Kingsley asked.
Nora bit her lips tightly with subconsciousness and thought for a long time. Then she gave a dull reason, “Because you were a good person!”
Kingsley obviously didn’t believe her words because he was very clear about her thoughts. He laughed ironically, “I would believe your words if you said something like I had a lot of money.”
Nora thought that it was truly another reason, but she couldn’t say it outspokenly. Her eyes rolled and then continued to flatter, “You were a good person with a handsome look as well as much money!”
Kingsley didn’t felt much satisfied. He sneered, “And silly, right?”
Nora couldn’t agree with him. She bit her lips and failed to know how to answer. She simply closed her mouth and kept silent.
As he drove the car on the roads, Nora quietly opened the window a little and took a deep breath.
At the moment, the cold voice of a man came out, “Tell me the truth. What was the relationship between you and Ringo Jones?”
“We were truly just ordinary friends.” Nora replied.
“Well, from the tone of your voice, I got that the relationship between you two was pure.” Kingsley said.
It really drove Nora crazy. Their relationships were truly of purity a long time ago. But since Ringo confessed to her, their relationships had completely changed. Nora really dared not ensure that their relationships were pure at a hundred percent.
“Did he love you?”
“Ah… No… I meant I didn’t know.” Nora was a little nervous. There exactly happened something between them but she wasn’t good at camouflaging. People who had scanty experience of life looked smart but too naive.
“Well then how about you?” Kingsley asked.
“I didn’t love him.” Nora replied.
Her answer was quite decisive and straightforward.
“Who did you love?” Kingsley continued asking.
It seemed that Kingsley would keep asking this question.
Nora thought that she loved him and turned to look at Kingsley’s handsome face with a clear line. But she reminded what had been said by broadcasters. At that moment, she took back her feelings. Then she mustered up her courage and said, “I…”
As Nora hadn’t finished her words, Kingsley’s phone rang. He motioned her to shut up with his hand. His expression changed slightly when answering the phone.
Nora didn’t know what they were saying. Kingsley’s facial expression remained indifferent after having some changes at the beginning. In the end, he said to the other side of the phone, “Ok.”
Nora’s confession to Kingsley wasn’t expressed in time, thus suspending.
After hanging up the phone, Kingsley stopped the car on the side of the road and said lightly, “I was busy. You took a taxi to go back home.”
It was nine o’clock in the evening and here wasn’t a remote place. Thus, it was easy to take a taxi.
After hesitating for a while, Nora asked him carefully, “Didn’t you come back tonight?”
It was confused to know what happened. Kingsley’s mood suddenly became very bad. His tone was quite impatient and he spat out sharp words with indifference, “Get out of the car.”
A sense of grievance and heartache instantly wrapped Nora up. She didn’t say anything. Then she slowly untied the seat belt and opened the door to get off.
The streets and buildings here were very strange for Nora. She didn’t come here very often. Standing in the wind of summer night, she looked at Kingsley’s car veering around and driving away quickly. She was so sad that she felt like being abandoned.
Nora walked along the street slowly. When she was walking, her eyes suddenly blurred.
The front way was like a road with no end, which was full of fog and thorns. She couldn’t see any direction. Every step she made would let her be pricked by thorns and get bleeding.
If she didn’t love Kingsley and didn’t have any feelings about him, she should be an obedient person without any superfluous ideas and help him coax his mother. Then she could let him play outside with whatever he wanted.
But she loved him.
Because of love, she would be jealous if Kingsley and other women had an affair. She would be glad if he occasionally cared for her. Also, she would sad and grieved if he was cold and ironic to her.
Finally, Nora stopped walking and sat on a bench of the street. After thinking for a long time, she called Karina King and asked her if she was at home.
Half an hour later, Karina drove to the place where Nora was.
As soon as Nora got on the car, Karina asked her, “It was so late. Were you sure you wanted to go to my home?”
Nora fastened her seat belt and said, “Yes. I was going to stay with you for a few days.”
Karina gave a gently smile and said, “You had quarreled with your husband, hadn’t you?”
A quarrel? Absolutely not. Nora just felt a little hurt. She reclined in her chair and said with a sigh, “Rosaline Woods went back to China!”
“Rosaline?” Karina was stuck for a while. After a second, she remembered this name, “Oh, I konw who she was!”
“Well!” Nora rubbed her eyes and said, “She was Kingsley’s first love.”
“So what?” Karina said with disdain, “You and Kingsley had been married. You were a legitimate Mrs. Baxter.” Karina thought for a second and then said, “He wouldn’t say that he wanted to get divorced!”
Nora scratched her head and said, “He seemed to have this intention.”
“And what did you say?”
“I said I didn’t want to get divorced but he didn’t say anything.”
“I felt pity for you, Nora. Why did you love such a man?”
Nora looked out of the window, feeling the cool wind of summer night. Her tears seized her eyes. She had already loved him for a long time. What could she do?
After she got back to Karina’s home, it was already eleven o’clock at night. Nora left the phone on the sofa and went to the bathroom to take a bath.
Karina lived alone in the LOFT apartment beside the river, which was decorated wonderfully. She didn’t light the fire to cook and usually had an aunt cleaned the house. She put down her bag and sat on the sofa to take a rest. Hearing Nora’s cell phone ringing, Karina took a glance at it. It was Kingsley. Then she went out and answered the phone.
“Where?” the man’s voice was low with subdued anger.
