Kingsley spoke lazily, “I just returned, and I have been busy recently.”
His subsidiary company was about to be listed in the market, but the development plan was held for a long time and was unable to be approved. Kingsley had encountered many things that went against him recently.
His mother snorted dissatisfiedly, “I haven’t called you because I know you’re busy. I asked my friend to bring some Tibetan medicine for Nora. It can help invigorate her. Come to my place when you two are free.”
“Sure.”
“Another thing, Kingsley, the news reported you are having a relationship with that new actress, is that true?” His mother asked coldly.
“No, it was just a rumor.”
“Good, let me tell you something, you need to show some restrain now that you are married.”
“I know!” Kingsley responded coldly too.
He had always maintained a humble private life style, and he didn’t like to show off in front of the media. The recent scandals about Vivienne and him were hyped deliberately. He didn’t have enough time to work, no mention caring about these ridiculous news.
Kingsley put the phone back into his pocket and took a look at the time. It was already eight o’clock in the evening.
And he was already late for the banquet.
After taking a shower, Nora changed her clothes and started to feel hungry. Aunt May, the housekeeper, took a day off today. Nora did not expect Kingsley to be back either. She went downstairs with her long hair hung down loosely. She saw the man who was reading a financial magazine on the sofa, and she asked, “Have you eaten anything tonight?”
“Do I look like someone who has eaten?” Kingsley raised his eyebrows with his eyes full of discontent.
Nora was already used to his emotionless attitude, “Then what do you want to eat?”
Kingsley put aside the financial magazine and pressed the place between his eyebrows, “My stomach feels uncomfortable, no need for a meal.”
Nora maintained her good temper and said, “There are some hand-rolled noodles in the refrigerator. Your stomach will feel worse at night if you don’t eat anything. Why don’t I cook you some noodles?”
Nora appeared cautious to please. Kingsley stared at her and sneered, “Whatever you want.”
Nora sighed in relief and took out the hand-rolled noodles from the refrigerator, walking into the kitchen.
Kingsley was actually quite difficult to get along with. He seldom expressed his emotions and was a fickle man.
For the first eighteen years of his life, Kingsley was a model teenager. However, when he was eighteen-year-old, his father went to jail and committed suicide in prison. After the tragedy happened, he disappeared and no one knew where he went. In the past few years, he showed up again and suddenly became a famous businessman in City A.
Nora couldn’t remember when she fell in love with him. Perhaps it was the day when he borrowed her bike without telling her, which made her cry because she thought her new bike was stolen, and then he bought her ice cream as an apology. Or perhaps it was the day when she interviewed him during the campus athletic day, and he gave her the medal as a present.
She did think about marrying him, but never thought that it would be in such an embarrassing way.
After a while, Nora came out with the noodles. Kingsley glanced at it. The noodles looked very simple. Nora put the bowl on the table and said, “That’s the best I could do, there aren’t many ingredients left in the refrigerator.”
Kingsley was a little hungry after going around for the whole day. He sat down and picked up the noodles with a pair of chopsticks. As soon as he was about to eat the noodles, he noticed that the woman sitting in front looked at him nervously, along with a little expectation in her eyes.
As expected, right after he ate the noodles, Nora asked softly, “How was the taste…”
Nora was really nervous, because she was worried that the picky Mr. Baxter would deny her efforts.
Kingsley looked at her face that was mingled with nervousness and expectation. He wanted to laugh, but in the end he said, “Not bad, eatable.”
Nora took a deep breath and considered his words as compliment. He didn’t dislike it anyway. She bent and grabbed her noodles.
Kingsley looked away from her, wiping his mouth with a napkin and asked casually, “Are you free this weekend?”
