Back in the car, Kingsley noticed Nora’s shivering, so he asked the driver to turn off the air conditioner.
Nora sneezed and asked infirmly, “Are there any dry towels? My hair is wet!”
A dry towel was thrown into her arms.
She picked up the towel and wiped her hair. The man’s cold voice rang into her ears, “What’s wrong?”
Nora wiped her face clean and answered, “Nothing.”
“Then why did you just sit on the bench and cry like a fool?”
Fool?
Nora felt like being stabbed at her heart, and sneered inwardly, “You are the fool!”
Kingsley held up her chin, staring at her, “Are you bullied?”
Kingsley knew that Nora was a tough girl. He had never seen her cried before except for a long time ago when he saw her cry once. So Kingsley was curious. He rubbed Nora’s delicate chin with his fingers, “Tell me, I’ll help you.”
Nora was a little timid in front of his intense gaze. His eyes were so charming that she might have surrendered to him. Most people didn’t dare to look Kingsley in the eyes. She turned her eyes away and said, “I failed the interview.”
“That’s it?” Kingsley sneered. He obviously didn’t buy that story, but asked no more. His sight landed on Nora’s soaked white shirt, where he could vaguely see the perfect arc beneath.
Nora felt his scorching gaze and hurriedly blocked her shirt with her hands.
Kingsley loosened her chin and said indifferently, “It’s not a big deal. I will see if I can find you a suitable job at the Rivertown Group.”
Oops, was the sun coming out from the west? Kingsley actually cared about whether she could find a job, was it another sly trick of his?
“Ah, no need.” Nora refused without hesitation.
Kingsley narrowed his eyes slightly, and his voice was intimidating, “What did you just say?”
Nora explained, “I don’t want to get the job beyond normal channels, I want to prove that I am capable and I want to rely on myself.”
This was merely a very normal sentence that Nora came up, but Kingsley apparently misinterpreted it and his expression instantly became a little cold, “Reply on your yourself? Shameless enough for you to say that.”
Nora held her breath for a while and did not find the right words to answer. After a while, she felt wronged, so she said, “Mr. Baxter, I will pay back your money!”
“Heh!” Kingsley sneered, stretching out his hand to pat her cheek gently, and commented bitterly, “Naive!”
The temperature of the air instantly dropped below zero, and the surrounding air seemed to freeze.
Nora felt colder and colder, but she dared not to speak a word after being humiliated. She sat silently and looked down at her fingers.
As the car entered the highway, the driver turned around and asked, “Mr. Baxter, are you still going to the Bright Mirror Hotel?”
“No, just go home.”
Kingsley got impatient, and he turned to look at Nora, “Go back and change your clothes. Also, take the cushion back and wash it.”
Nora still felt wronged, “Cushion?”
“You made it wet and now you don’t want to clean it up?”
Nora was indeed wet all over, and she did stain the cushion of the expensive car, but why would Kingsley be so stingy? Wasn’t there already someone to clean up the car?
But Nora didn’t dare to refuse, so she said dully, “Alright.”
When the car arrived at the Galaxy Estate, Kingsley went back directly under his umbrella.
The driver helped her remove the cushion, and so Nora walked back in with the cushion in one hand and the umbrella in the other.
After Nora returned home, she instantly took a shower and changed her clothes. Kingsley leaned on the sofa in the living room, his eyes were unfathomable and no one could figure out what he was thinking.
The phone on the coffee table rang, and he glanced at the screen and answered it.
Her mother’s voice came over from the other side of the phone, “Son, have you returned? When will Nora be back?”
