Caesar Woods’ eyes shrank intensely. And after a while, he said calmly, “It’s hard to find a job after graduation. You can also work as an intern here first to temper yourself, and then go to the headquarters in the future.”
“No need,” Nora waved, “I don’t want to stay here. President Woods should leave the opportunity to others. I am not good enough for it.”
Caesar Woods finally got mad, “Nora!”
Nora raised her eyebrows scornfully, “What’s the problem, you want to teach me what to do?”
This man did not have the right.
Finally, Caesar Woods calmed himself down and talked like a patient instructor, “I am just trying to compensate, you don’t have to refuse me like this.”
“Forget it!” Nora answered impolitely, and her tone was sarcastic, “How would you like to compensate? My mother has already suffered all these years, so you don’t have to pretend to be a nice guy, big tail wolf!”
She opened the door and left without looking back.
Nora felt very comfortable after standing firm in front of Caesar Woods, but what it took was the job that she liked, but it didn’t matter anyway. She would rather starve to death than accepting Caesar Woods’ pretentious compensation.
When her mother got sick, she went to beg for money from Caesar Woods. But what she received at the end was just a humiliation from Mrs. Woods, the wife of Caesar Woods, who smashed her face with a stack of money and jeered, “Is this enough for you?”
What’s more, Mrs. Woods said disdainfully, “Take the money and leave now. Like mother like daughter, both shameless people.”
In fact, Mrs. Woods was the other woman between Nora’s mother and Caesar Woods, but Caesar Woods, in order to play up to the rich and powerful people, dumped his ex-girlfriend, which was Nora’s mother. However, in the end these two became model couples.
Nora felt so resentful when standing at the door of the company.
If Caesar Woods was willing to give her money at the time, her mother would not became vegetative due to the delay of treatment, which caused insufficient oxygen in her brain. And she would not have lost her innocence and dignity when she was in a part-time job in the hotel, forcing her to ride on Kingsley’s coattails and live in this world under humiliation from others.
For the first 20 years of her life, she was accompanied by her beloved mother. Although they were not rich, her mother would try her best to make Nora happy.
Now she was nothing but Kingsley’s toy and pet.
The weather of July was fickle, dark clouds suddenly covered the sky.
The rainstorm fell upon the entire city in an instant.
Nora didn’t bring her umbrella, but she walked straight into the heavy rain without fear. People always said that rainy days were the best time to cry. Now she cried so unrestrainedly, crying while walking, regardless of the gazes of others on the road.
The rain fell down on her along with tears. Finally she got tired and sat down on a chair in the long street.
It was chilly inside the dark Bentley. Kingsley’s folded his legs and his hands clasped slightly. He said to the driver at the front, “Take me to the Bright Mirror Hotel. There will be a business banquet tonight. Wait for me there at six tomorrow morning.”
The driver nodded, “Okay, Mr. Baxter.”
Kingsley moved his gaze to the outside through the windows. As the rain dropped heavily, the whole world was covered within mist.
It was such an inadvertent glance that he caught sight of Nora sitting on the bench, wet all over.
He didn’t recognize her until Nora raised her hands to wipe her eyes.
Kingsley frowned deeply, and his eyes drifted for a while, recalling that boiling-hot midsummer afternoon from a long time ago. Once there was also a little girl who cried loudly under the sycamore tree on campus.
Nora wiped the rain off her face and was about to find a place to hide from the rain. Suddenly, a pair of spotless black leather shoes showed up in front of her, and the raindrops stopped falling on her instantly.
She looked up in shock.
The man under the black umbrella had a handsome yet emotionless face.
