The medical kit was in the cabinet in the corner of the living room and it was not difficult to find it.
The cabinet, made of wood and carved with patterns, was bought many years ago before the Hans family bought this villa. Since Gary was nostalgic, he kept it up all the time.
Afraid of disturbing Gary and Luke, Estelle didn’t turn on the light and couldn’t see clearly in the darkness. When she touched the surface of the cabinet, she could tell that it was a pattern of orchids.
She remembered that Gary once said Cristofer’s grandmother loved orchids most, so Gary asked the gardeners to plant all kinds of orchids in the garden.
Thinking about this, Estelle couldn’t help smiling and thought to herself, ‘The men of the Hans family are loyal and in love. Grandpa Gary loves Cristofer’s grandmother deeply, and Cristofer’s father is very much in love with his mother. Mr. Mysterious is also a man who is constantly in love. As for Cristofer…’
Estelle shook her head and asked herself not to recall her marriage with Cristofer, which was full of unhappiness and despair.
After groping in the cabinet for a few seconds, she found the medical kit. Then she went to the kitchen to get a glass of warm water and tiptoed upstairs. The stairs of the house were old. Although Estelle moved as softly as possible, there were still creaking sounds when she went up the stairs.
“Grandpa Luke, what are you looking at?”
“Shh. Keep your voice down, Yohan. Don’t let your Mom find us, or she will be embarrassed,” Luke said in a low voice in a dark corner.
“Why will Mom feel embarrassed?” Yohan whispered in puzzlement.
“Well, it’s so late now. Let’s go to bed. Your Dad and Mom have had a lot of things to be busy with recently. Be good, and don’t make them worry about you, okay?” Luke said gently.
Walking the stairs, Estelle didn’t notice Luke and Yohan. Nor did she hear their conversation.
When she returned to the bedroom with the medical kit, she saw Cristofer sitting in bed and leaning against the bed’s headrest with a notebook on his lap. His injured left arm was limp on his left side, and he was typing on the keyboard with his right hand.
“Are you dealing with something urgent?” With the medical kit in her hand, Estelle walked over, looked at the screen, and saw he was using charting software.
Raising his head from the laptop, Cristofer gazed at her with tenderness in his eyes and said gently, “No.” Then he closed the laptop and sat up, saying, “Have the children gone to bed?”
“There’s no one in the living room, and I didn’t hear their voices coming from their room. It’s so late now. They may have already fallen asleep,” Estelle answered.
“That’s good. I was worried that the kids would not be used to living here,” Cristofer said, smiling a bit.
Hearing this, Estelle smiled helplessly and said, “They are not like you. Even a change of pillow can make you sleepless. The children eat well and sleep well daily, and they are very easy to care for.”
Indeed, they are not like me, but they are like you. I still remember that when you were in middle school, one day, I secretly took you to the amusement park at night to have a ride on the Ferris wheel and watch the stars with you. The starry sky was very beautiful that night. But you slept soundly on the Ferris wheel and didn’t wake up until dawn. Do you still remember that?”
“Yes. I was preparing for an exam at that time and always stayed up late, so I was very sleepy that day,” Estelle said, smiling gently.
“What a pity! The sky that day was the most beautiful starry sky I have ever seen, but I appreciated it alone,” Cristofer pouted his lips.
The atmosphere became more relaxed when they talked about the past as if they were old friends who hadn’t seen each other for a long time.
With a chuckle, Estelle said, “I suddenly think that we shouldn’t have gotten married back then. It’s better for us to be friends for a lifetime than being a couple. After all, friendship sometimes is more long-lasting than marriage. Maybe if we hadn’t got married, those painful and tragic things wouldn’t have happened. If we were just friends, you and Gretchen could be together, and she wouldn’t have staged the car accident.”
Speaking of the car accident, Cristofer swallowed, and he said with a serious look, “Star, the more I think about the car accident, the more I feel that things are not as simple as we thought.”
Hearing his statement, Estelle asked in confusion, “You mean there is someone behind Gretchen?”
“Yes.”
“Is it her mother, Melody? Isn’t it said that she plotted the car accident?”
“No. It should be someone more powerful and scheming than the two of them.”
Frowning slightly, Estelle quickly asked, “Who could it be? There’s a theory that, in any case, the one who benefits the most is the most suspicious. I think it makes sense. York benefited the most from the car accident, and Melody and Gretchen came second. Who else could also benefit from it except the three of them?”
Hearing Estelle’s words, Nelson’s image slowly floated into Cristofer’s mind.
Estelle then continued, “Their goal of plotting the car accident is to get the properties of the Hans family, isn’t it? After the car accident, the three of them got all the properties of your family. I really can’t think of anyone else who benefited from the car accident.”
Cristofer narrowed his eyes, his voice deep and thoughtful. “Perhaps the true mastermind behind this doesn’t want the Hans family’s assets. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have allowed York to claim all of them.”
Estelle furrowed her eyebrows and asked, “Then why did that person orchestrate the car accident?”
With growing suspicion, Cristofer pondered, ‘What could that person possibly want? Money? No, he has enough. Power? Unlikely, given his ability to hide the car accident. Perhaps what he wants is… a person.’
“Let’s not talk about this topic. I’ll treat your wound first,” Estelle said softly as she sat down on the bed and took out iodine and gauze from the medical kit. Then she gently took his hand. When she saw his wound, she frowned and said, “I’m sorry that I hurt you badly.”
Seeing her guilty look, Cristofer asked in a gentle voice, “Did you really want to kill Mr. Klein at that time?”
“No, I didn’t,” Estelle said remorsefully, shaking her head. “I was so furious that I lost my mind. I just didn’t want him to insult Mr. Mysterious. I just wanted him to shut up. I… I didn’t want to harm him.”
