The side consort came upon her three supposed elegant daughters fighting like wild cats; she was immediately angered and shouted at them to stop the fight.
The three girls stopped and curtsied dutifully as soon as they heard their mother’s voice.
The side consort’s face fell when she saw the three disheveled girls and unharmed Mary.
She originally asked her two daughters to come and corner Mary, but she didn’t predict that Luna would come along as well. She was beyond furious that the three girls ended up fighting with each other.
Restraining her anger, the side consort waited for the servants to place a chair behind her and sat down stately. She took a cup of tea, gestured the girls to stand up and dismissed the servants out the door. The side consort pretended to just notice Mary and faked a kind voice, “Mary, you good girl, can you tell me what happened?”
Mary stood on the side, gave her a glance and said nothing.
The side consort was a little puzzled at her normal behavior. This fool used to either cower in front of her or smile idiotically, but never once did she seem this normal. She had all kinds of speculations.
The side consort stood up and moved closer to Mary, inspecting her closely.
Mary took off her gaudy clothes and rid her face of the heavy rouge. Even with all the fat, her face looks cute because of her alabaster skin. She is looking more and more like that bitch, the side consort’s grip tightened; it’s time to double the dosage of her poison.
The side consort lifted her hand to caress Mary’s face while Mary dodged sideways and looked piercingly at the side consort.
Just at that moment, Mary felt the hostility radiating from the woman in front of her. Suppressing the urge to take her life, Mary simply side-stepped.
“You bad! Go away! I don’t like you!” She tried to speak like the original Mary.
The side consort was surprised, the fool moved too fast for her to react just now, so unlike the clumsy way before. Somehow, this made the hair at the back of her neck stand up.
She decided to take care of this situation as soon as possible and go put her white fur on. It’s getting cold, she should take care of her own body.
She decided to dwell on no longer and made the three girls told her what happened just now.
Meanwhile, as Mary dodged the side consort’s advances, the feeling of hostility didn’t fade. A thousand methods to kill the side consort ran through her head, but the pain on her body still reminded that she was far from healed and need to tread lightly.
The three girls couldn’t wait to tell on each other.
Especially Amy and Luna, all indicating that Grace started the fight first and they were merely victims.
Grace fumed as she listened to the other two girls denying their responsibility, thinking there were only three people and the uncomprehending fool present when this happened, she might just as well tell the whole story.
“Mother, don’t listen to their lies, here’s what really happened….”
The side consort seemed deep in thought after hearing her statement. According to Grace, She was supposed to slap Mary but she hit Amy instead. This seemed really suspicious.
But Mary was under her scrutiny all along, unless something had happened to her. The side consort thought as she examined Mary closely, her heart sinking and her face falling as she peered at Mary’s expressionless face.
The side consort decided their punishment after listening to the whole story, “You three are a total disgrace to your breeding. How can you start fighting when you simply came to visit your sister? Go back and hand-copy the Conducts of A Lady ten times, you are grounded until you finish copying those.” She ignored Grace and Amy’s whines and looked over at Mary, “Mary dear, you’ve had a rough day today, you still seem a little unsettled. Rest fully and I will send some broth over later through the servants.”
After that she turned and left without a backward glance.
Grace, Amy and Luna were left staring at each other. They stated the whole thing as a misunderstanding and resumed their pretense of loving sisters. After a few jabs at Mary, they left hand in hand.
Mary didn’t even spare them a glance when they left.
Instead, she was focused on the speculating presence outside her window. That man seemed to have been there for a long time. However, under Mary’s close attention, he didn’t do anything other than eavesdropping.
Just as she was concentrating on feeling his presence, he completely disappeared. She peered and turned her head, spotting a porcelain bottle with a note that read “Oral Taking” on top. She heard someone come in and hid the bottle under her sleeves with a wave of her hand.
She couldn’t figure out the intentions of the deliverer of the bottle.
After escorting the crowd out the chamber, Daisy came in and closed the door behind her. Seeing Mary still standing there, she hurriedly helped her back into bed and tirelessly rearranged her covers.
