Susan let out a sigh as she leaned on his shoulder.
“I didn’t know how to see you face-to-face.” She sat up, her forehead leaned against Edward’s. She continued, “There was a long period of time where I couldn’t live a peaceful life.”
When she closed her eyes, it’s as if she went back in time. The recurring nightmares she faced every night. Until now, she couldn’t find a place in the campus where they didn’t create memories together.
She even went to see a psychiatrist during her worst moments.
Edward remained silent. This rare silence continued on until they got down in Black City.
“I’ll send you home, only then I’ll go back to the hotel.” Edward hailed a taxi.
He realized Susan was holding onto the corner of his shirt. He turned around and looked at her. “What’s wrong?”
“Come to my house,” Susan said while looking at him. “My mom knows you.”
Edward paused, the waves of emotions that were surging at the bottom of his heart were covered up with his calm expression. “That’s fine too. Before that, let’s head to the shopping mall. I can’t go to your house empty-handed.”
He spoke naturally, but the slight shakiness in his voice could be heard.
Susan nodded in agreement. A taxi stopped in front of them. They opened the door and sat inside.
Edward went to a jewellery shop to buy a necklace. When he’s done, it was almost ten.
Susan’s phone rang. It was her mom who urged Susan to come home as soon as possible.
They reached Susan’s house not long after. When Susan opened the door, she looked down, feeling shy.
Edward greeted her mom. “Hi aunt, I’m Edward.”
Susan’s mom was wearing an apron over her simple outfit. When she saw him, she nodded her head excitedly. After a while, she said, “Come in and have a seat. Why did you come back so late, I’m sure you guys haven’t eat.”
She went to the kitchen and took out the dishes, her mouth still nagging, “The food is not cold yet. Eat these. If there’s not enough, I’ll cook again.”
“Mom, I’m getting dizzy from you walking around. Come here and sit,” Susan said while pulling her mom’s hand.
She just nodded a few times and answered, “Okay. Have your dinner first, then I’ll sit down.”
Susan pouted hopelessly at Edward. She then threatened jokingly, “My mom cooks the best dishes, so you must finish your food.”
Edward slightly smiled. “Sure.”
Ever since he stepped foot in Susan’s house, the smile on her mom’s face never faded away. She’ll either look at the two kids or at an empty space.
“Mom, I want to talk with you. Let’s go in.” Susan turned her head and looked at Edward. “Is it okay for you to sit outside?”
“What’s up with this kid?” Susan’s mom was pushed away by Susan.
“It’s fine. You guys go ahead.” Edward’s eyes slightly curved as he smiled. His beautiful smile made Susan blush.
The bedroom door filtered out the conversation that was going on in the bedroom. Edward looked around and saw another room. He opened the door of that room and switched on the light.
There’s a few dolls arranged neatly on the window sill. The bed was covered with a clean, blue-white coloured bed sheet. There’s also an old study table. On the table, there were books that were read by Susan and a few toys.
Edward smiled as he looked at every decorations in her room. All of a sudden, there’s a tingling pain in his eyes. It was from a white medicine bottle on the table.
His shaking fingers caressed the bottle. He tried to read what medicine it was but couldn’t understand the words on it. The sudden sound from the room next door interrupted his line of thoughts. He took out his camera to take photos of the medicine bottle before putting it back in its original spot.
“Edward,” Susan was in the living room.
He picked up a book, flipped to one of the pages and pretended to read. He then responded, “Yea.”
Susan walked into her room, her eyes slightly red. She hugged him from behind. “What do you think about this book?”
“Just looking around.” Edward turned his head to look at her.
Susan’s jaws was on Edward’s shoulder. Her eyes were focused on Edward’s pink lips and her mouth formed an ‘O’ shape as she looked at it. She’s so enchanting.
“Are you inviting me?” Hoarseness could be heard in his cold voice.
Susan chuckled and bit her lips.
Edward held her waist and kissed her.
