Chapter 58: HELPLESSNESS

Before anyone could say anything the door opened and Jefferson came in with a gloomy look.
He looked around the elder’s room and saw DeLorna sitting on the chair in front of the elders.
Immediately he heaved a sigh of relief and walked toward DeLorna.
“I think it’ll be better if you stop there.” The elder with a chubby face spoke in a stern voice.
Hearing this Jefferson had no choice but to stop. He was sure with the way the elders just spoke to him now DeLorna had told them what happened.
It wasn’t her fault these were her only family in the pack. Sue couldn’t report to his sister as his sister hated wouldn’t help with the situation but rather worsen the matter.
“So what do you have to say?” The female elder frowned looking at Jefferson.
Jefferson sighed and didn’t know what to say. He knew he was at fault and could only apologize to DeLorna.
But DeLorna was having none of it. How was she going to forgive him easily when he had betrayed the trust she had in him?
This was exactly what Abigail wanted to achieve and she had achieved it.
She wanted the trust DeLorna had in Jefferson to wane such that she’ll never believe whatever he says.
After Jefferson finished narrating the side of his story the elders shook their heads with disappointment and Jefferson could see it in their eyes.
“We’re sorry but we can’t allow you to take DeLorna with you, she’ll be with us from now on.” The tall muscular elder said in a firm voice and the others nodded.
Jefferson wanted to say something but it was stuck in his throat.
Right now he couldn’t argue with the elders. There was nothing he would do that would make them help him convince DeLorna to go with him.
Even though he was stronger than them combined he couldn’t use force to take DeLorna away.
He knew his mate well she might do something to herself if he tried and he wasn’t ready to lose his mate so he had no choice but to turn back and walk out.
DeLorna on the other hand was in tears. A part of her didn’t want to accept that Jefferson was in his right sense when he did what he did.
Another part wanted to believe him as she trusted him just too much. But the part that believed him was a little weaker than the part that didn’t believe him.
She loved Jefferson very much more than herself. She was ready to spend the rest of her life with him but why did he do that?
What was the moon goddess watching letting her suffer like this? Was the moon goddess trying to test her patience?
She didn’t but hoped it wasn’t so as DeLorna knew she had just limited patience.
“Don’t cry dear, we know it’s hard for you to forgive Jefferson but we hope you’ll be able to find a place in your heart to forgive him.” The female sighed.
“We know Jefferson well, he isn’t a bad child but rather a good kid so we want you to forgive him.” The tall muscular elder chipped in.
“We know very well that deep inside you want to believe all that Jefferson said but you found it impossible.” The chubby-looking elder added.
“We’ll want you to make the side that believed in Jefferson stronger than the one that didn’t believe it.” The elder clad in white added.
The elders thought had shown scorn for Jefferson’s actions in front of him they had no choice but to plead to DeLorna to forgive him.
They knew if DeLorna should become so angry that she wants to end everything and even break the mate bond between her and Jefferson it’ll become a problem.
Jefferson might not find another mate in his life and might not be able to lead the pack as he was doing now.
“But who do you think is the culprit of what Jefferson said is the truth.” The muscular elder frowned.
“The culprit is evil I must say whoever planned this isn’t an easy target.” The chubby-looking elder sighed.
“I think it’s Abigail.” The female elder frowned.
Hearing her words the other elders frowned and looked at the female elder.
DeLorna too was also surprised by what the female elder said.
“If we look at it from the bright side, Jefferson said he was hypnotized after he was drunk…” The female elder started,
“And the Jefferson we know can’t become drunk no matter the amount of alcohol he takes…”
“Meaning someone had laced the alcohol with something that would make Jefferson drunk since he wasn’t on guard… Also, the only person who has access to Jefferson’s drinks and food apart from the trusted maids is Abigail which meant she was the one who added it…” She continued.
“So after Jefferson was drunk it would require an extremely strong person to put him under hypnosis and Abigail was the only strong person in the banquet capable of putting Jefferson under a hypnosis in his drunk state.” The elder analyzed.
The other elders shook their heads in agreement upon hearing the elder’s words. Her analysis made sense. Coupled with the fact that Abigail hated DeLorna.
Also if they looked at it from the other side, DeLorna fell asleep right after she ate the food brought by the maid.
At that time it was only Abigail who could have ordered the maid to take the food to DeLorna.
Meaning Abigail wanted to take DeLorna out of the way before proceeding with the plan.
Analyzing all this the elders began to realize it was Abigail behind this.
They knew Jefferson was intelligent and would soon find out the culprit.
But the thing was that he knew his sister loved him and would never do anything to harm him so he wouldn’t suspect his sister.
Even if he was told his sister was one of the prime suspects he wouldn’t believe it as he wouldn’t be able to think about it to the extent of suspecting.
The only thing they could do was to wait till the truth comes out and the only way for the truth to come out was by making Abigail’s plan fail now and they were sure she would plan another.
Then they were sure Jefferson would be able to catch her. But then they wondered what he would do to his sister once he finds out she was the one behind his misfortune.
DeLorna on the other hand was still confused but didn’t ask the elders anything as she was sure that even if they explained she wasn’t going to understand a thing.
