Chapter 45: SETTING OUT

Book:MATED TO THE LYCAN Published:2024-6-2

In no time Jefferson got to where the soldiers of the pack were residing.
By the time he got there, the soldiers were already ready with their arms waiting for Jefferson.
He had already briefed them earlier on and had told them to get ready as they would be going to war.
Jefferson walked up to the captain of the soldiers and sized him with his eyes.
“Are you sure you’ve packed all you need?” He frowned.
“Yeah Alpha we’re already. I’ve made sure we packed all we need. And I’ve checked it several times without a number.” The captain, a tall muscular man clad in soldier attire, replied in a firm voice.
Jefferson nodded and looked at the remaining soldiers who were looking at him with attention.
“As I’ve told you before, we are going to attack the wolf pack for what they did and also to settle an old grudge. It’s an all-out war between us and the wolves so you must all help yourselves in the battle. I don’t want to lose any of you,” Jefferson said in a firm voice looking at the soldiers.
“Yes, Alpha.” The soldiers replied in unison.
They were about fifty all heavily armed. This was just a third of his soldiers. Though only Jefferson and his soldiers could go out to all-out war with the wolves and still come back victorious Jefferson didn’t want to do so.
He was someone that loved hiding his strength so he would be able to catch his enemies off guard.
He was already determined that he wouldn’t allow soldiers to die no matter what.
Though he was going on the battle with them he was only going as a spectator.
Once he discovers any of his soldiers were in a tight state he would immediately intervenes. This was his plan before he set out though he didn’t tell the remaining four leaders about it.
He knew if he should tell them about his plans they would beg to help them protect their soldiers though he was also planning on helping them protect their soldiers he wouldn’t leave his soldiers if they were in dire need and go help them out.
Pushing all these random thoughts to the back of his mind Jefferson walked close to the captain of the soldiers and gave him a piece of paper he brought out of his pocket.
“This is the location where you’ll come meet me. I’ll be waiting for you with the other leaders. we’ll set off together once you get there.” He said.
“Also you should take enough cars or you can decide your transport mode yourselves,” Jefferson continued.
He was someone compassionate. He didn’t want his soldiers to suffer much even though he would be there.
He wanted to have the best and not lose any of them. So with his numerous connections in the human world, he had gotten his soldiers’ many arms and other essential things for the war.
Though he wasn’t sure if they were going to need the arms on the battlefield.
But who cares. Whether they needed the arms or not wasn’t his business. All he knew was that he had provided them with the necessary arms. It was up to them to decide if they would use it in the war.
Though if he was going to advise his soldiers he was going to tell them that the arms were useless as they would be forced to transform during the party whether they liked it or not.
So because of that, he asked them to take an extra piece of clothing and put it on so they wouldn’t be naked in case they transformed.
Sighing softly Jefferson pushed all these thoughts to the back of his mind.
“You can start going, I’ll be there waiting.” He said to the captain of the soldiers who was waiting for his command.
Immediately the captain saluted him and faced the soldiers. “Let’s go.” He shouted.
“Yes, captain.” The soldiers replied in unison and moved to the ready cars.
Jefferson watched as they entered the car. After they all entered the car. The captain went to the driver of each car and told them the location where they were going.
There were not many cars as there were only ten cars. After telling the drivers the location they were headed to. The captain turned and saluted Jefferson before entering one of the cars, and driving away.
Jefferson sighed immediately after the cars left the vicinity. He wanted to leave right now but he remembered he had to go see the elders and inform them that he was going already so that they would be on alert for any dangers that might befall the pack. Though his sister was in the pack he wasn’t sure if she would head out of the pack for her business but he hoped she wouldn’t go anywhere.
Pushing all his thoughts away he disappeared heading to the elder’s place.
In no time Jefferson got to where the elders reside.
He didn’t even care to knock and just entered the room.
The room was still as dark as it was. But Jefferson could still see. No matter how dark it was Jefferson was sure he would be able to see clearly in the place.
The elders in the room raised their heads in surprise when the door of the room opened.
They wondered who would come to visit them at this time of the night. Though they were pretty sure it would be Jefferson as he was the only one that dared to enter without knocking.
Jefferson entered the room and saw the elders discussing and was shocked. He wondered if the elders do sleep as anytime he came he would always see them seated on their chairs. It was either they were having a conversation or they were silent.
“Don’t your bag of bones sleep?” Jefferson asked with a raised eyebrow. His curiosity was getting the better of him.
Hearing Jefferson’s crude words the elders sighed. Though they didn’t know why he had come so late in the night they were sure he wasn’t here to ask them this question.
“What’s wrong? We do sleep, it’s just that we are having a meeting right now.” The chubby-looking elder replied.
“But why do you ask?” He continued.
Hearing the reply Jefferson forced a smile. “I’ve never met you all in your room sleeping. Any time I come here you are all seated here. So I’m beginning to wonder if your bag of bones doesn’t sleep.”
“Just say what brought you here and stopped being rude.” The female amongst the elders was reprimanded.
The elders knew that Jefferson was being disrespectful because of his mate.
Jefferson had brought his mate twice and they had ended up scaring her which made Jefferson mad at them.
They also didn’t know how they had ended up scaring Jefferson’s mate. They wanted to explain but Jefferson wouldn’t listen to their explanation no matter what they said.
Hearing the elder’s words Jefferson sighed. “Fine, I came here to tell you that I would be leaving for the war tonight and won’t be back for some days. You should all help protect the pack.” He said his voice turned serious.
“But I think your sister is in the pack.” The tall elder frowned.
“Yeah she’s in the pack and I’ve informed her also. But I’m not sure if she would have some personal business she might want to attend to that might make her leave the pack. So I’m begging you to help protect the pack,” Jefferson replied, his voice turning soft towards the end of his words.
“Fine, we’ll protect the pack in your absence. But be careful while in war don’t be careless even though we know you’re strong you still have to be careful.” The female amongst the elders said while forcing a smile.
The other elders shook their heads in agreement with the female elder and they all urged Jefferson to be careful while in battle.
“I promise to be careful and not be careful,” Jefferson replied, bowing low and forcing a smile.
He remembered that it was exactly what his mate had told him. Thinking of DeLorna made a wide smile appear on his face. But quickly he pushed the thought to the back of his mind. He was afraid that if he continued thinking about her he would not want to go to the war again.
Thanking the elders Jefferson went out of the room. He sighed and raised his head looking at the sky.
The moon was surely beautiful and the stars too were adding to its beauty.
“It’s time.” He muttered and disappeared.

Some minutes later Jefferson appeared in front of a building. This was the building where he and the other four leaders usually have their meetings.
Sighing Jefferson went into the house. But as he expected none of the leaders was there. He was sure they were leading their troops here and would take time.
Jefferson didn’t personally lead his soldiers here as he was sure they could handle the make well in any situation.
Also, his soldiers were submissive to the captain as he had made them like one big family where the captain was like the head of the family.
Though sometimes disputes between the soldiers would require his attention but still he trusted his soldiers.
Sitting on one of the chairs in the room his thoughts wandered back to the past on how he met the other four leaders of the pack.
At first, he had thought that his pack was the only pack that existed and he didn’t know about the other packs.
But then a day after fighting a hunter and heading back to his pack he heard someone shouting for help.
Rushing toward the direction where he heard the call for help he saw the four leaders fighting some hunters and the hunters were gaining the upper hand.
Though at that time he didn’t know who the four leaders were and just went ahead to help them and killed off the hunters they were fighting.
The four leaders then thanked him and asked him who he was. Jefferson introduced himself. Though at that time he wasn’t the alpha of the pack. He then took them to his sister who fought and beat the hell out of the four leaders after they recovered.
His sister had fought the four leaders at that time because they challenged her. The four leaders after reaching Jefferson’s pack were surprised to see that it was a female leading the pack and had offered to help Jefferson plan a coup.
But Jefferson told his sister and his sister confronted the four leaders.
The four leaders who didn’t know how strong Abigail was decided to challenge her but Abigail declined and told them to get well first.
They insisted but Abigail had declined and promised she would fight them once they got well and would even pass the alpha’s position to one of them if they were able to beat her to which they agreed not knowing Jefferson was her brother.
After they got well they decided to challenge Abigail and Abigail asked them to attack her all at once in which at first they wanted to decline but Abigail angered them with her words and they ended up fighting her together which was a huge mistake as Abigail beat the hell out of the four of them to the point that they were hospitalized for days as were unable to go back to their pack.
When they finally recovered they discovered that Jefferson was now the Alpha of the pack.
Jefferson would have been the alpha of the pack a few days before but the four leaders’ interruption and wanting to fight made Abigail delay it so she could teach them a lesson.
When they saw that Jefferson was now the alpha of the pack they were shocked and confused.
Jefferson then explained everything to them after which he formed an alliance with them and they made him their leader because his sister did not know he was stronger. It was not until an incident did they discover he was stronger than his sister thus even fearing him more.

The sound of reviving cars brought Jefferson out of his memory lane.
“They must be here” he muttered and stood from where he was sitting heading outside to meet whoever was outside.
