Cole’s p. o. v
“Cole,” Grace called softly.
I stopped moving back and forth and looked at her.
“You need to calm down.” She said
I wanted to calm down, I really did but I couldn’t. Emily had been in that damn ward for hours.
I could hear her cries and complaints in my head. She was in pain and wanted me by her side.
“At least they could have let me hold her hand.” I said loudly.
“The Dr told you to stay here and wait, son, shouldn’t you listen to her?” She asked.
No, I wasn’t suppose to listen to her. The whole clinic was full of Werewolves, they clearly knew who I was and how they should treat me. I wasn’t going to sit back and follow their orders.
I walked ahead ignoring Grace’s call and went into the ward.
Emily lay on the bed with parted legs and in sweat while leaning against her elbows. Her dress was pushed up to her waist and two of the midwives were on each of her sides encouraging her to push.
When her eyes met mine, I quickly moved and stood next to her brushing the strand of her hair backward.
Her eyes were filled with unshed tears and her breathing labored.
“Alpha, you need to hold her hand.” One mid-wife instructed loudly.
I wasn’t dressed up or fit to be in the room, but all I wanted to do was to stand by her side as she was going through such pain.
I grabbed her hand then swallowed hard.
“Luna please try again, we can see the head.” Another mid-wife said loudly.
“Cole, I can’t.” She whispered through our mind link.
“Yes you can, I’ll be right by your side no matter how long it takes. So don’t give up, we are a few minutes away from seeing our little pup.” I whispered.
She gripped my hand tightly and screamed out in pain as she pushed.
I was scared and freaked out. I wasn’t supposed to be, but I was.
“It is normal.” Ace whispered. Unlike me, he was very much calm.
My other hand went on her forehead wiping the sweat as she pushed again.
“You will be fine my love, you are doing great.” I mind-linked her hoping it would help her in some way because the tingles seemed to be doing nothing.
Her laboured breath was becoming loud pants. She was in so much pain. And the midwives loud voices seemed to be making it worse.
My throat was dry and I too was beginning to sweat.
When she pushed again and this time the sound of a crying baby filled the ward I breathed out loudly in relief.
“Congratulations alpha and Luna, you have a bouncing baby boy. Alpha would you like to cut the…..”
“No,” I answered with a smile then looked at Emily who was looking at the baby with tears in her eyes.
“Can I hold him?” She asked softly while one of the mid-wife wrapped the baby in a blanket.
“Sure Luna but just for a second.” She answered then moved closer and handed the baby to her.
She sniffed as tears rolled on her cheeks.
I stood silently watching with a wide smile on my face.
The little one looked like an angel. So peaceful, with his eyes closed and as we both gazed at him, my eyes were filled with tears.
He had my hair color but his mother’s eyes.
“Luna, we will bring him to you right after he’s cleaned up and taken good care of.” The mid wife said softly.
“Okay,” Emily whispered then handed the baby back to her.
“Alpha, if you don’t mind. Can you step out for a bit?” The other remaining midwife asked.
“Sure,” I answered then leaned in and kissed Emily’s forehead before stepping out.
“How is she?” Grace asked loudly when I approached her.
“She is okay, she has delivered a healthy baby boy.” I announced happily.
“Oh, that’s a relief. Congratulations.” She whispered then hugged me.
“Thank you,” I answered as I hugged her back.
“Cole,” Jason called ahead.
He was approaching us with Teresa.
I pulled back and smiled happily.
“It’s a boy.” I said loudly when they stood in front of me.
“Congratulations,” Teresa said happily.
“Man I can’t wait to see the little one.” Jason said as I laughed.
He put his hand on my shoulder then nodded as I nodded back.
“That’s great news. I couldn’t calm down at all at home for hours. Jason had to suggest we come here. If not for him, I don’t know what I could have been done by now.” She said seriously.
“Alpha’s.” The Dr called behind us.
We all turned and looked at her.
“Congratulations on having the next alpha in line.” She said with respect as I extended my hand to her.
She looked at it with widened eyes then at Jason who smiled.
“I um….” She stammered.
“It’s okay, you can shake it,” I said softly.
“Okay.” She answered in a cracked voice then shook it.
Maybe I was too hard on my people and every wolf that knew me or heard about me. Now that I was a father, I wasn’t going to be the same. I needed to change completely for my son’s sake and my people.
“Thank you, Dr for everything. Also, if you ever need to come back to your pack, we will welcome you with open arms.” I said softly as she blinked the tears away.
“I won’t forget your words alpha.” She said then dropped her hand and went away.
“That was so kind of you.” Ms Benedict whispered.
“Yes, he told her exactly what she wanted to hear. It’s amazing that she stayed for so long with the humans. No matter what, her wolf needs her pack and the closure of its own kind. She wasn’t sure whether she would be welcomed if she would go back home. But you just gave her hope and a clear answer.” Jason said as I chuckled softly.
“Everyone deserves a chance and a home,” I answered honestly and meant every word I had said.
She and her workers were more than welcome to come back to either my pack or Jason’s pack.
Either way, it was still their home.
