Emily’s p. o. v
I leaned against the window as Dwayne drove the car to town.
He was glancing in the rearview mirror with each passing minute.
“What?” I asked loudly when I met his gaze.
“Nothing Luna.” He answered in a respectful tone.
“It’s not nothing when you keep looking at me like that.” I answered.
“It’s just that I’m wondering why you wanted to go in town alone so badly.” He said.
“I’m not alone am I?” I asked seriously.
“No, you aren’t.” He answered then focused on the road.
I thought convincing him to get me in town was going to be hard but I was very wrong. It was much easier than I had thought.
Flashback
I grabbed a huge sum of money that was in the drawer and split it in different amounts, then pushed it in all of my jean pockets.
I had no passport because it was in Jason’s pack. I was going to try and win over any taxi driver to get me where I wanted.
I walked out of the room after making sure that my face was okay.
I went outside the pack house and saw Dwayne ahead talking to a few men.
When I went to where they were, they all quickly bowed slightly to show their respect.
“You can all leave, I want a word with Dwayne.” I said seriously.
They quickly all left leaving him with me.
“Luna, I’m so sorry over what I did to that lady.” He said softly.
“Do you know that that lady you were bothering is beta Cobi’s mate?” I asked as his eyes widened in shock.
“I.. I.. I had no idea. Please Luna keep this between us. If he does find out, he will kill me.” He said in a pleading tone.
“I’m not here for that. I’m here because I want you to drive me to town. There is something that I want to get.” I answered with a smile.
“You can just send me to get it for you.” He said as I laughed softly.
“I want to do it myself.” I answered seriously.
End of flashback
“We are here.” He said when he parked his car in the mall’s parking lot.
“Thank you. Can I ask for a favor?” I asked softly.
“Sure.” He answered.
“I want to buy something nice for Cole, you know. Lingerie.” I whispered.
He turned and looked at me with a smirk.
“Oh damn, that’s hot.” He said proudly then frowned. “I mean okay.” He said calmly then cleared his throat.
“Yes, it’s just that I’m embarrassed going in the store with you. If it’s not too much to ask. Please wait here and never tell anyone about what I have said.” I said with a smile then opened the door.
“Got it, Luna, you don’t have to worry about a thing.” He answered as he pulled out his phone from his pocket and began tapping on it.
I came out, closed the door behind me then walked towards the mall.
I got in and went on the escalator with a rapid beating heart. Once I was off, I turned and saw that he wasn’t following me.
I rushed to the back entrance and walked out of the mall getting into the first taxi I saw packed there.
The driver also got in and looked at me in the rearview mirror.
“Where to miss?” He asked.
“First, how about getting me out of here then we can talk on our way.” I answered.
“Sure thing, buckle up.” He instructed as he started the car and drove away.
I sat there looking outside while he hummed a song.
“Can you get me out of this country?” I asked softly.
“Um… miss, I can’t do that. I can drive you to any town nearby, but not outside the country.” He answered
I pulled out the money from my front pockets and handed it to him.
“Here, will this be enough?” I asked seriously.
He stopped the car and got the money counting through while whistling.
“So?” I asked.
“Why didn’t you say so from the start?. I wouldn’t have used this road which is full of traffic officers. I will get you out of this country in no time miss.” He answered then started the car and made a turn going to his left.
“But you aren’t running away from cops are you?” He asked seriously.
“No, I’m not. I’m rushing to meet my mother, I received a call that she was critically ill. But my boyfriend was against the idea of me going back. He got my passport and burned it, talk about possessive. I had no time to get another one because all I desperately wanted to do was see my mother.” I lied.
“I understand. I too only have my mother. My father died in the war, he was a soldier.” He said calmly.
“I’m so sorry to hear that.” I answered.
“It’s okay, it’s been long since I talked about him. I have been working very hard because I want to make a better living for both me and my mother.” He said as I felt bad.
I remembered how I used to be back then before meeting Jason. My life was very hard and I couldn’t find a decent job. Making a decent living was nearly impossible but I chose to never give up. And so I worked extremely hard.
“Your mother is obviously proud of you.” I said softly then pulled out a few dollars from my pocket and handed it to him.
“Oh no miss, the money you gave me was more than enough.” He answered with a smile.
“Look, sir. I understand exactly what you are going through because I too went through such a hard time. But do you know what kept me moving forward?. My mother. I wanted the best for her even if it meant me going through a very hard time. That woman went through hell just to see me happy and live a comfortable life. That’s why I wanted to work very hard for us. Besides, I love her a lot and would gladly do the same as I did in the past just to give her a comfortable life.” I said honestly.
He hesitated but took the money with a smile.
“Thank you very much. I promise to get you where ever you are going safely.” He answered softly as I nodded.
