Jason’s p. o. v
“What do you fucking mean beta!” I growled on top of my voice as Rhoyda wasted no time in standing in front of him in a protective stance.
“What are you doing Rhoyda.” I growled in a warning tone.
“Protecting my mate!” She spat seriously.
Protecting her mate!. Was it a joke!. If it was then I wasn’t in the mood to laugh. I knew how she hated the man, how could she claim to be protecting him.
“Since when do you protect him. Last time I checked you didn’t want him.” I pointed out the obvious.
“Yes, I don’t. But my wolf, the Alpha in me wants him. She is willing to take over and never let me out if I don’t treat him right.” She answered seriously pissing me off.
I glanced at Ken and noticed how his eyes were fixed on the ground. At least his ego wasn’t getting to his head. He knew who was still alpha of the pack.
“Step back brother.” She said strongly as I chuckled.
It was all her fault. She was driving me nuts!.
“I gave you a month to find my fucking mate beta didn’t I?. But what did you do, you fed me stories day by day until now. I could have gone alone to search for her but this bitch kept standing in my fucking way!” I spat then moved at a quick pace and grabbed her by the neck.
Ken rushed ahead and pushed me away sending me flying in the air. I landed on the wall with a loud thud and groaned. My back was in pain and Vincent was fucking pissed.
I willingly stepped back giving him full control.
I wasn’t going to kill the man that took care of us, he was.
“Alpha I… I didn’t mean to push you away. It’s just that .. my mate…” He trailed off as Vincent stood upright and stretched out our muscles.
He slowly took a few steps ahead. Each movement held dominance and power.
“Leave,” Rhoyda whispered to Ken.
“What?. No. I can’t leave you!” He answered loudly.
“Iam not asking you, Ken. I’m ordering you to leave.” She growled furiously.
He glanced at Vincent with a sad, apologetic expression on his face, then turned and ran away. I pulled through and took partial control when Rhoyda approached us and stood in front of us.
“I apologize for losing my respect. But I was just protecting my….”
She choked when we grabbed her by the neck.
“You don’t get to say anything or open your mouth unless we tell you to, are we clear?” We asked with emphasis then dropped our hand.
She stumbled a bit and inhaled deeply while coughing slightly.
“That bastard has her with him and whatever he did, he made sure I couldn’t mind link her. I don’t care who works for him or what he wants. All I care about is my mate.” I spat then moved to the desk and opened the first drawer.
I picked up a gun and put it on top of the desk. Rhoyda looked at it with widened eyes then at me.
“Where did you get that?” She asked in a whisper.
“I came with it sister. I wasn’t stupid enough to leave us unprotected. Where we stayed with the humans was peaceful but that didn’t mean we were free from harm. I prepared myself for the worst that’s why I made a few deals and got myself a few guns filled with silver bullets.” I answered then picked up the gun in my hand.
“You and I aren’t well trained. Our wolves are very strong but we are weak in our human form. We need to protect ourselves. What better way than a gun filled with silver bullets.” I said then walked to her and handed her the gun.
“Why are you giving me this?” She asked with a frown as a smirk formed on my face.
“You and Ken have been searching for Emily for long. This time, you will go again and carry this with you because you won’t be coming back without her.” I answered.
“What?. No!” She spat.
“I don’t want to be forced to murder your so-called mate because of your failure,” I whispered when I grabbed her hand and put the gun in it.
“Are you threatening me?” She asked with a raised brow.
“No sister, I’m telling you what I can do when pushed at the edge of my sanity.” I answered with a smile.
“Don’t lay your hands on my mate bastard. I will find your mate for you.” She spat furiously as I smirk.
“Perfect, then what are you waiting for?” I asked.
She turned furiously and walked out of the office.
I sighed then soon followed.
“Vincent,” I called as I walked in the passage.
“What?” He answered with a snare.
He was pacing back and forth. He was way angry than I was.
“You are the only one that can really find her. You have what I don’t and that’s your instinct. The fact that we can feel that she is alive and safe should make it easy for us to find her. All this time we were panicking and couldn’t think straight. We were also afraid. But now that we are calm, I believe we can track her down and find her whereabouts.” I said when I came out of the pack house.
“Let’s find her.” He said seriously then completely took over, shifted, and rushed for the pack’s border.
We crossed the pack’s border in just seconds and then he picked up his pace and rushed ahead.
As minutes turned into hours all I could think about was her smile, face, scent, and words. She was happy with me and willing to start a family. How could she just disappear like that?
I was snapped out of my thoughts when Vincent slowed down his pace and lowered his head near the leaves under a huge tree. He inhaled deeply as the scent of our mate filled our nose.
“Vincent,” I called softly.
“She was once under this tree. That means we aren’t far.” He said then began running ahead.
Her scent was very faint, but it was there. The more we went ahead, the more her scent became stronger.
He kept on with his quick pace for a few hours. The environment was dark and the moon was showing. It was already night.
He stood still in his tracks when we picked up a very strong scent that we knew very well. We were near another Alpha’s border.
We understood what crossing or trespassing one’s territory would lead to, but we weren’t going to stop.
“Let’s go,” I said strongly then took over and rushed ahead.
I wasn’t stopping now. Not when Emily’s scent led us right there.
We crossed the border in no time and all we could pick up were sounds of leaves and trees rustling.
I was about to ask him what he thought of the dead silence when I was tackled to the ground.
I rolled to my side and got to my feet with a low growl.
A huge wolf, close to my size stood in front bearing its sharp teeth in warning. Judging from its lack of fear and how it was holding its ground when it knew I was an alpha, I could tell it was a beta wolf.
From him, I could pick up Emily’s faint scent and that made Vincent way angrier.
“Let’s kill him.” Vincent spat and I couldn’t agree more.
I was about to charge at him when I heard a familiar voice.
“Cobi, stand down. I’ll take it from here.” A man approaching us said loudly.
The more he got closer the clearer I could see his face.
I shifted into my human form without a second thought.
“If it isn’t my beloved twin brother.” He said as shock washed over me.
“Cole,” I called in a whisper as sweat began to form on my forehead.
“Hello, Jason.” He greeted simply then folded his arms.
My throat was dry and my heart rapidly beating. I knew Cole was alive, but seeing him in front of me was like seeing a ghost from the past.
“How the fuck are you still alive.” I asked in a cracked voice and took a step closer.
“Is that why you came here?” He asked mockingly.
I furiously moved and grabbed him by the neck with a loud growl. The beta wolf was about to move when he lifted his left hand stopping him.
“What the fuck did you do to my mate asshole!, I can smell her on you.” I growled loudly as I inhaled deeply and tightened my grip on him.
He grabbed my hand from his neck and twisted it making me fall on my knees with a loud growl.
I was in fucking pain and Vincent wanted to take over but I couldn’t let him.
“Let me out.” He growled loudly.
“No,” I answered in a labored breath.
“Why!” He demanded.
I was about to tell him the truth when I felt a painful ache around my neck.
My eyes got heavy and my breathing turned into pants. when he let go of my hand I fell with a loud thud and succumbed to the darkness.
