Chapter 27

Most of the ladies he was talking to were glaring at her and she immediately looked away the minute her eyes landed on them. What the heck? Why were they glaring at her like that?
“So… I thought I’d keep you company,” Jonas’s voice made her aware of his presence. Looking into his blue eyes again, she suddenly had an inkling of why the women were glaring at her.
Were they perhaps glaring at her because of Jonas!? She shifted on the chair sideways hoping to put a little distance between her and Jonas. She is here to get a job and maybe make some friends but certainly not enemies on her first day.
That would make her future in Derrick’s rough. “Uhmm… No need. I’m fine. I am actually more of an introvert so I don’t mind sitting alone. You can go and chat with your friends if you want,” Emily told him in a cool tone.
She was stunned by Jonas’s reply, “Wow! That’s another thing I have in common with you. I am also an introvert.”
Emily almost groaned. Why does it feel like she’d have a hard time shaking this guy off her?
Before she could give him an answer to refute his reply, her phone beeped. She switched it on and read the message. A small smile appeared on her face as she stared at her phone screen.
‘I have been sending messages without a single reply so I thought I’d divert the topic from our date to something else. How is your day going? I have to meet some clients in the next few minutes and then I’ll divulge in the heap of paperwork laying on my desk right’, the message stopped there with a love emoji that had an arrow through it.
She sighed and typed back a short reply,’ I’m out for a job interview.’
His message came back quicker than she expected. Less than a minute like he had been waiting for her reply.
‘Good luck… But you shouldn’t blame yourself if you don’t get the job,’ she frowned at his message, not knowing what to reply. She didn’t notice the awkward expression on Jonas’s face as he watched her.
He had already peered into her phone earlier and saw the name STEVE displayed boldly on it. He looked disappointed when he saw it. So she already has a boyfriend?
Emily was still contemplating whether to reply to the message or just leave the message like that when her phone beeped again and she saw that Steve already replied to the message.
‘Hubby has a lot of vacancies in his company so it doesn’t matter if you get employed there. I’ll employ you as my personal secretary,’ he even added a winking emoji.
Emily gasped and her cheeks suddenly had a shade of red. Jonas also had a slight shade of red on his face. While he is generated from anger, hers is from blushing.
‘Shut up!’ she added a gun emoji.
“The interview will start in fifteen minutes!” A lady dressed in a shirt that’s obviously too big for her announced.
She looked up and ignored the beeping sound of her phone. She slipped the phone into her bag and sighed, silently praying.
“You have a boyfriend?” She was startled by the familiar voice that suddenly spoke. She looked up at Jonas who had a weird look on his face.
“I thought you already left?” She questioned with a look of surprise. Jonas looked upset. She even forgot that they were chatting before the message came in.
“No… I have been sitting here all along… You forgot you were chatting with me,” His tone sounded strange to her like he was upset. Huh? Why would he be upset?
“I’m sorry. What were you saying?” She had lost track of their conversation.
“Forget it,” He sighed and she didn’t know what to say to that. “Do you have a boyfriend?”
She didn’t know why he was suddenly asking if she had a boyfriend. “Is he your boyfriend?” His next question stunned her. Her eyes narrowed at him angrily.
“Excuse me Were you peeping at my chat?” Her voice was a little bit raised so those nearby heard them. Jonas looked embarrassed. Emily lost the perfect gentleman image she had built of him in her head.
She noticed the attention they were getting and turned her face away. Jonas sighed and wanted to say something but he decided against it.
The ladies that were glaring at Emily earlier had a smile on their faces. They looked satisfied with the sudden change of scenario between Jonas and Emily even though they don’t actually know what caused it.

Scott panted as he rushed into the elevator. He glanced at his wristwatch and tried to straighten the scattered curls of his hair that was everywhere. Yikes! The interview already started.
He glanced at the wristwatch slowly counting the time till the elevator reached its designated stop. As soon as the elevator made a ding sound, he ran out before the doors even opened completely.
He rushed to a hallway and barged into a room. The people stopped talking and looked up at him.
He waved his hands at them panting slightly, “Carry on… Carry on.”
He then walked to the table and sat down beside Chris. “Cousin, did you run all the way here? Why are you panting?” Chris whispered to him as the others continued the interview.
“Do you know how far this office is? I didn’t run all the way here. Only to the elevator and then to here,” Scott answered him in between gasps.
“Then why are you gasping and panting like you just ran all the way here from home?” Chris asked with a smile.
Before Scott could give him a reply, they heard the others calling someone, “Miss… Miss”
They both turned around to check out the situation and that was when they noticed that the lady they were interviewing is absent-minded. She was staring at Scott without blinking.
Scott exchanged glances with Chris who winked at him. He glared in return and turned to the lady. “You are dismissed!” He said in a loud tone.
