“Are you sure?” I stared at Nan Lin and asked.
“Of course I’m sure. The person in that photo isn’t me. She just looks like me.” said Nan Lin. She also calmed down.
That was interesting. One of the people in that photo looked like me and the other looked like her. And then I didn’t think the person in the photo was me, and she didn’t think the person in the photo was her.
Did someone who looked like me and someone who looked like her take a picture together? Was there really such a thing as a coincidence?
“Okay, I see.” I quickly put away the photo.
Only then did Nan Lin relax completely. I felt she seemed to be tired, which meant that she was really nervous before.
I didn’t know why she was nervous. But it must have something to do with secrets. She must keep a secret. She was nervous because she was worried about being revealed.
“What’s with the picture?” She asked me again.
I thought she was trying to test me with this question. She was just trying to get the answer she wanted and then felt at ease.
“Since it’s not you in the picture, forget about it.” I said.
“You know about the pictures, I just don’t tell you.” I thought in my mind.
Nan Lin was dying to know where this picture came from. I stopped discussing it, but she had to give up. So we stopped talking, each of us had something on our mind.
By Nan Lin’s expression, I was almost certain that the person in that photo was her. Otherwise she wouldn’t be so nervous. Did she have something to do with Nan Su’s death? Was that why she was so nervous?
Actually, I thought maybe Nan Su’s death had nothing to do with Nam Lin. The Su family is a prestigious family, and if Nan Su’s death had anything to do with Nan Lin, the Su family would never let her go. Wenbei Su also said that Nan Su’s death was an accident. But Wenbei didn’t go into details about how this accident happened. And at that time he was studying abroad, so I was afraid he wasn’t clear about the details either.
Since it was an accident, it should have nothing to do with anyone. So it was also unlikely that it was related to Nan Lin. Since that was the case, she could just admit that the person in the photo was her. Why did she refuse to admit it?
“Would you be interested in talking about Leon with me?” I looked at Nan Lin.
“What are we going to talk about?” She was surprised.
“We’ve never had a friendly chat about Leon. You were with him through a tough time. Talk about that.”
Then there was a distant look in her eyes, “There’s no need to talk about that. He was blind then, so I took care of him. That’s all.” said Nan Lin.
“How did he become blind?” asked I.
“I don’t know. By the time I knew him, he was blind.” said Nan Lin.
Her words made me puzzled again. “How did he get to know you when he was blind? He can’t see anything, so he must be looking for a place to stay. He must not walk around. How did you guys meet?” said I.
“This has been going on for years. I don’t remember it clearly.” Nan Lin said.
“So where did he live then? You remember that, don’t you?” I asked Nan Lin.
“He didn’t live in Hai City at that time. He lived in Yang City, a place called Nan House. He lived there for a long time.”
When Leon were blind, he did live in the Nan House. From this, it seemed like Nan Lin wasn’t lying.
“So you took care of him at the Nan House in Yang City. You did nothing then and you are a full-time caregiver for him?”
“No, I have a job. But most of the time, I’m taking care of him. I’m happy to see him recovering day by day.”
“And how did he recover afterwards?” I asked.
“Maybe the Traditional Chinese medicine cured his eyes, but there are other ways to help, too, I guess.” She said it vaguely, which meant she wasn’t very clear about it either.
I wanted to ask something more, but she said she was a little tired and wanted to take a break. And she was also ready to get off later.
When she said that, I didn’t want to bother her, so I gave up asking her something.
When I arrived in Yang City, Wenbei Su sent a driver to pick me up. I asked Nan Lin where she was going and I could drive her to her destination, but she refused. She said she had other plans.
When I arrived at Nan House, Wenbei hadn’t eaten yet. He said he was waiting for me to join him for dinner. He looked better than he did two days ago. He can walk without crutches now, but he was not quite steady.
“It’s the best thing that happens to me if you recover. I want to celebrate with you.” I said happily.
When I went to Hai City without eating, I didn’t felt hungry. Now that I saw all my favorite food on the table, I had the appetite and suddenly felt very hungry.
But looking at the time, it was almost nine o’clock in the evening. Eating dinner now was the equivalent of having midnight snack. After this meal, I would probably gain weight again tomorrow. I was already annoyed that I had gained another two pounds recently.
Wenbei seemed to see my hesitation and said, “You’re thinking about losing weight?”
“It’s a little late now. If I’m going to eat it, I’m sure I’ll gain a pound of fat tomorrow.” I laughed.
“You’re so slim and pretty. You don’t need to lose weight. Besides, if you don’t eat enough, how could you have the energy to lose weight?” said Wenbei.
This made my already wavering will even less strong and I started making excuses. I asked, “I’m really not fat?”
“You’re not fat.” Wenbei and the maid said firmly.
“You’d look good if you were fatter?”
“You’re beautiful, you don’t need to lose weight. Just eat them all today and don’t care your weight.” said Wenbei.
“Well, I’m going to eat all the food on the table.” Finally I gave in to the food.
The dishes Wenbei had prepared were all my favorite dishes and the wine was kept by him for years. Besides, I was determined not to be afraid of gaining weight, so I had a great time with this meal. Looking at the empty plates all over the table, I suddenly regretted eating so much.
After we finished eating, Wenbei and I went for a walk in the courtyard. I thought I would burn off my excess fat by taking a walk.
Standing in the courtyard of the Nan House, I looked at the gorgeous night view of Yang City. Wenbei and I circled the yard together like children. He was trying to build up his leg strength and I was trying to burn calories.
“Dose the company urge me to come back for something important?” I asked.
“I don’t know. I wasn’t informed this time. If something important happens at the company, I’ll be notified. You don’t have to worry.”
Wenbei didn’t tell the company what’s going on though, but I was uneasy. My sixth sense had always been very accurate. Whenever I felt uneasy, something bad would happen.
“Yeah, ok.” I said, “”One more thing, I found out that the mastermind behind my last kidnapping was Ruoxin Chen. I’ve punished her.”
