Monday morning, I started work as usual. Everything was as usual, except that there was more work and I was busy until the afternoon. Suddenly, I received an email notice, asking me to go back to Yang City headquarters for a meeting the next day.
I didn’t dare to wait any minute and I immediately booked a ticket for the high-speed rail in the evening. After work, I went home and packed up and then I rushed to the high-speed rail station. After arriving at the station, I called my Second Brother and told him that I was going back tonight for tomorrow’s meeting.
After I got on the train and set the luggage, I was ready to sit down, finding that a girl, next to me, had been looking at me, a little nervous. That was Nan Lin.
In the past, she could be said to be my biggest rival, but since I divorced Leon Hua, this rivalry had disappeared. No matter what grudges we had in the past, we were still old friends, so I nodded at her. Then she nodded as well.
I sat down and adjusted the seat back a bit to a comfortable position. Then I closed my eyes to rest.
Only a while, I suddenly remembered something very important. When I opened my eyes, I saw that Nan was still looking at me.
This suddenly made me a little wary. Didn’t she still remember the fight and want to do something bad to me while I was sleeping?
“You’re so pretty, no wonder he likes you so much.” She smiled at me and I didn’t see any malice, but there was nothing benevolent either.
The ‘He’ she was talking about should be Leon. I was still a little surprised that she would say such words. Because in the past, her view had always been that she was kind to Leon, so Leon could only possibly like her.
I didn’t answer and just smiled. Then I said ‘thank you’.
“Are you OK with him?” She was interested in talking to me.
I thought to myself-was she deliberately trying to piss me off, or she didn’t know that Leon and I were divorced? If she cared so much about him, she should know his movements all the time. How could she not know that we divorced long time ago?
“Not good.” I responded coldly.
“Why?” She asked again.
“I divorced him, don’t you know that? Or you know that and you just want to embarrass me. And if so, I tell you the truth, I’m not embarrassed. It’s normal. You and he didn’t go together, did you?”
She froze for a moment, sensing my unfriendliness. She didn’t say anything right away, as if she was thinking about something. It took her a long time to say, “I didn’t mean that, you’ve misunderstood.”
I was embarrassed that she didn’t argue with me. I thought maybe I was a little mean to her.
“I’m sorry. I’m overreacted. Sorry.” I said.
“It’s okay, normal things. I’ve heard about your divorce, but I ran into him once and asked him about it, but he said no and the so-called divorce was to cheat others. That’s why I asked.”
It turned out that Leon told her so. Since that’s the case, then of course I had to be consistent with Leon.
But I already said that I had divorced him, and it would look even more awkward if I suddenly denied it now, so I just laughed and didn’t say anything else.
Nan sensed that I wasn’t very friendly to her, so she stopped talking. She should have wanted to chat with me, but seeing my cold attitude, she didn’t want to bother me.
Then I suddenly remembered something, so I took the initiative to talk to her, “How are you lately? Is your bridal shop still open?”
She laughed, “Not any more. Someone kept looking for trouble. They came to smash up anytime, making me feel a lot of people hate me.”
I thought to myself that this was true. Let alone others, Ruoxin Chen alone wouldn’t let her go. And there’s also a fiancée that I had never met and if she was mean, then it’s more likely that she wouldn’t let Nan go.
There were too many people who liked Leon, any one of whom could create a lot of trouble for Nan. It was natural that she couldn’t keep her bridal shop open.
“How about you? How are you?” She asked me.
“I’m fine. By the way, I have something to show you.”
I took out the photo I had carefully kept from my bag and handed it to Nan. She took a look at it and her expression changed all of a sudden.
I could really see that she was panic, which meant she remembered the photo!
I looked at her silently, but I didn’t immediately ask her questions. I just watched her and the obvious panic.
“What’s this?” She started to calm down.
“What do you think?” I asked her back coldly.
“The people in this picture, one looks like me and the other looks like you.” She scrutinized the photo.
“Why do you say ‘like’? Isn’t it obvious that it’s directly you? How can you still say ‘like’?” I said coldly.
“But as I remembered, I didn’t take this picture. That’s why I said ‘like’.” She had completely calmed down and the panic in her eyes disappeared.
But the panic was real, which I had seen with my own eyes. No matter how hard she tried to hide it, I could remember. I was sure that she had panicked.
Why did she panic? Just a photo? It could only mean that there was a secret behind this photo.
But if I were to force her as to tell me, she would never admit it. Nan was smart, so it’s impossible for her to tell me everything. And I couldn’t randomly ask questions, because I didn’t figure out the photo. If I asked too many questions, I would reveal that I actually didn’t know about the truth.
“You said the one in the picture looks like you and what about the other one?” I asked.
She sized me up, as if she was watching my expression. But I also calmed down now and I wouldn’t let her see my doubts.
“The other one… seems to be you, right?” Nan said testily.
“You really think so? Why do you say that another person is just ‘like’ you, but you are certain that the other person is me?”
Nan blinked, “I’m not sure that’s you, but it really looks like you. And you have the photo, so I think it’s you.”
“It’s clear that you took this picture with me. Why don’t you admit it?” I asked a bold question.
Nan, who was already calm, was panicking again. And it was an even greater panic than before. Why?
“No, I don’t remember. We didn’t know each other before, so how could we have had our picture taken together? I’m the wrong person.” Nan tried to refute what I said.
That’s why she didn’t admit that the person in this photo was her.
