“It’s her again? As the mayor’s daughter, she’s really lawless.” Wenbei Su’s frowned.
“She also conspired with Leon’s elder brother. And in her words, it was Chenxing Hua who commissioned her to do this.”
“Why don’t these brothers set a good example for their younger siblings? Why do they always do dirty things?” Wenbei sighed. He should have thought of what Xiaodong Su had done.
“Are there competing for interests in every rich family?” I asked.
“I don’t know. But why are they fighting for their interests all the time? Everyone has different abilities and it’s good to find the right role for them. Why do they have to fight over the benefits?”
“Maybe it’s just human nature.” I sighed as well.
Then we both fell silent. After sitting for a while, I went back to my room to wash up and go to sleep.
The next morning, I arrived at the Nanhe Group’s headquarters for a meeting.
I thought it was a massive executive meeting, but there weren’t many people. There were a few executives and directors, and then Ling Jiang and Xiaodong Su were there.
I found that out of all the attendees, my position was the lowest, which made me even more uneasy. It wasn’t like a meeting, but rather like a trial against me.
“The main reason we’re having this meeting today is to hear a report on the work of Tongyu Technology over in Yang City. Tongyu Technology is a subsidiary that the group attaches great importance to. The chairman has also been very concerned about its situation. You talk about the work progress over there.” Ling said.
Knowing that they wanted to know the work report, I was relieved.
Next, I would start reporting. Remembering data was my strong suit. Although I didn’t prepare for that, I remembered those numbers from Tongyu very well. I spoke clearly about the last quarter’s revenue, the amount of growth over the same period, and the data about various aspects of the company.
Executives gave me compliments. After all, not everyone could remember these boring numbers.
Then I reported on the growth plans that I’d come up with based on my analysis of the data, which I hadn’t made up but I’d carefully prepared.
After I finished my report, the executives were very satisfied, and Ling also gave her approval of my work.
However, Ling’s voice suddenly became colder as she said, “Miss. Yao remembers all the project data clearly. But why didn’t you mention the fact that the company is missing three hundred million dollars?”
Hearing her words, my heart shuddered. Now, I realized that this was the theme of the meeting.
No matter what, what’s meant to come will come. I couldn’t get away with it.
“Three hundred million dollars?” I found my voice trembling. I knew how serious this matter was.
“There’s such a huge amount of cash missing from the company’s books. As the president of the company, you wouldn’t know that, would you?” Xiao dong said.
“I really don’t know about that. Although I’m the CEO, I’m not the CFO. So I really didn’t ask CFO about the financial matters. No one reports to me either, and I just found out about it now.” I answered as calmly as I could.
“Miss Yao is saying that you have no responsibility in this matter. Before this matter has begun to be investigated, you’ve already shifted the blame around. I’m afraid there’s something wrong with your attitude.” Xiaodong continued.
“I’m not trying to shirk responsibility. As the CEO of Tongyu Technology, I need to take responsibility for any problems that arise in the company. But what I’m wondering is that with such a big problem with the company’s finances, why didn’t anyone report it to me and instead just informed the headquarters of this matter?”
“You have to ask yourself. Why are employees afraid to report it to you when the company has a problem? Why the hell is that?” Ling stared at me.
“I don’t know why, so I had no idea the company was missing 300 million dollars. I need to investigate it before I can give an explanation to you.”
“This matter has already been verified by the headquarters. It’s true that 300 million dollars are missing from the books. And the relevant information shows that this money was personally authorized to be transferred by you. Do you want the company to call the police if you say you don’t know anything now?” Ling said coldly.
She said there was evidence that I had authorized the transfer of 300 million dollars, and then I was really in trouble. Some evidence can be made by people, as to whether the evidence is true or not, it needs to be authenticated. But the process of authenticating the evidence is likely to be deliberately falsified by someone.
After I was jailed for being falsely accused of harming Yaohui Hua, I stopped believing in such things as ‘evidence’. It may be useful for normal cases, but if someone is trying to frame you intentionally, then they will make enough relevant evidence to prove that you are guilty.
If Ling said so, it meant that the evidence they found must be valid evidence, or at least evidence that I can’t disprove with my abilities. So at this time I didn’t have to pursue what kind of evidence. I could only think of ways to solve the crisis I must face.
“If Miss. Jiang really believes that I used 300 million dollars for personal use, then this is a big case, and I suggest that you call the police.” I said calmly.
Then the two directors present immediately objected, “We can’t call the police. Now the company can’t have such negative news. Mr. Wenbei Su has been refusing to show up, and the media is already in an uproar. If another case comes out, it will cause the share price to plummet, who will be responsible for that?”
“Please give me two days to get to the bottom of this. After two days, you’ll consider whether to call the police. What do you think? I promise not to leave the country during these two days. I will cooperate with the company or the police at any time.” I assured.
Ling looked at the others for their opinions. They all agreed.
“I think there is a negative impact if we call the police, but if we don’t call the police she is going to escape with the money, won’t it be more troublesome?” said Xiaodong.
What he meant was that I stole that money. I wanted to contradict him, but I gave up. I still didn’t know what kind of situation this was, so I decided to bit my tongue.
After the meeting was adjourned, everyone left. But my feet were as heavy as lead. I couldn’t walk out of the small meeting room. That was when Ling called out to me.
“Did you do this thing or not?” Ling stared at me and asked.
“No. I didn’t. Even if I was greedy, I wouldn’t be stupid enough to take the company’s money, because it would be easy to find out.”
“But all the evidence shows it is you. If we don’t deal with this, we won’t be able to answer to the board and the shareholders.”
“Aunt Ling doesn’t have to worry about me. You just do what you have to do. The truth will be revealed to all finally.” I nodded my head in understanding,
“I also want you to clear things up in the next two days. You’re already the chairman’s daughter. I don’t want you to carry a stigma because of this and that will also affect the chairman’s reputation.” said Ling.
