“You’re backing off now? How dare you! After everything I have done for you? How could you?” Nicolai snaps at alpha Kayden, as he grabs the flower vase from the dresser and throws it across the room.
“Can’t you get it, Nicolai? I am hurting my daughter, and it doesn’t feel right for me to do. All her life, she never got the chance to taste the love of her parents and her brother. You forced me to imprison him and you use me like I’m your toy. I’ve had enough! Haven’t you ruined me enough?” Alpha Kayden laments painfully, running his fingers through his hair, and Nicolai scoffs in disbelief. Has this man forgotten who he is and what he’s capable of doing? Has he forgotten that he can bring him down and lead him to his grave with just a little secret?
“I dare you to say that again, and I bet you won’t live until sunset!” Nicolai dares him, and he turns his face away. All he ever wanted was to be in power and rule the pack, all he ever wanted was to be respected and have people worship him, but sadly that he has been a slave to power, sadly, his best friend has done nothing to him, but ruin his life and make him do things he shouldn’t be doing.
“Nicolai…”
“Do I care about your emotion? Do I give a damn about your daughter and how she feels about the way you treat her? Hell no! All I want is for you to bring those bastards down, and help me get on the throne. If you do otherwise, I’ll go down, and rest assured that I won’t be going down alone, but I’ll take you with me,” He says to alpha Kayden.
“Now, I want you to go out there, and tell your daughter what to do. Remember that if anything goes wrong, you’re losing not only your power, you’ll watch all your family die before you, and you’ll be tortured to death. Don’t push me, Kayden. I have been patient enough, I can’t take this anymore…” And with that, Nicolai strides to the door and storms out of his room.
Staring at the closed door, alpha Kayden slowly walks over to the bed and crashes on it, burying his face in his palms afterward. His desperation for power has gotten him into a big mess that he may never get out of alive, but what hurts most is the people that he’s going to bring down with him. He shouldn’t have trusted this man with his secret in the first place, but they were so close, how was he supposed to know that he’ll one day use what he knows about him against him?
The secrets he shared with this best friend of his twenty-five years ago is the one haunting him now. Wondering what happened between them? Many years ago after the mysterious death of the then alpha of the Blood Moon pack, Nicolai later found out that the one that killed the alpha was his beta, his best friend, Kayden, and his wife. He was disappointed in him when he found out about that, but he promised to keep it a secret. For the past twenty-five years, the two have lived with the secret buried within them, not until the issue of power arises again, and his dirty secret had become a weapon against him.
Taking a deep breath, he stands up to his feet and sighs again before he strides out of the room. It seems like he’s forever going to be a puppy to his friend, he would never stop doing this to him…
Inside the prison…
Lydia yawns tiredly as she rests her back against the wall.
‘I’ll come back for you’ recalling the promise Dean has made to her, a drop of tears slid down her cheek as she feel her heart hurt badly. She has missed him so much, and she worries about his whereabouts and his safety. It hurts to not see him, but then she has to deal with this mess she’s in first, in order not to drag him into this shit with her.
‘That’s your next assignment’ recalling her father’s words, she slowly reaches out to the paint lying beside her on the floor. Picking it up, she rolls it open, staring at the painting of Cassie. She hasn’t been able to wrap her head around why her father wants this lady to be eliminated. Staring at her innocent smile, she didn’t have the heart to hurt her even if she ever gets to see her but realizing the condition her father had given her, she know that she needs to save her brother from prison.
“I know you’re here… What do you want?” She suddenly speaks up, her attention still on the paper. Her father slowly emerges from the dark.
Staring down at her, he almost feels like crying, but he doesn’t want her to suspect anything. Seeing her in this condition hurt him so much, he wishes that he can hold her in his arms and tell her that everything will be fine, he wishes that he can explain to her, why he’s doing all of these dirty things, but he can’t. She and her brother never deserved all the ill-treatment that he has been giving them, but he has no choice.
“Stop giving me that look. It’s ok to cry, but it won’t wipe the truth away that you’re a terrible father. What do you want now?” She finally raises her gaze to look at him, and he quickly turns his face away from her.
“Are you here to threaten me again? That you’ll make my brother suffer if I don’t do what you want? Or that you’ll make my life miserable if I don’t fall to your feet and worship you? Why should I kill someone because of you? Why should take a life for the selfish reason that I know nothing of?” She scoffs unbelievably.
“I’m sending you a message. This is the last chance you have. Dean, the twin brother of alpha Damien of Blue Moon pack…” Hearing this, she snaps her head up to look at him her eyes widening in shock.
“I’m sure you know him. He’s the next target… He’s in trouble now, and as I speak to you, he has wolfsbane in his blood, which will kill him sooner than you expect it. Do you want to save him? Then do what I asked you to do, and the antidote will be sent to him immediately. I’ll leave you to think about it,” And with that, he turns around to leave.
“I’ll do it,” Without thinking twice, she voices out…
