Chapter 37

Book:Fated To Be His Mate Published:2024-6-2

At the priest’s chamber…
“To what do I owe this sudden visit, my lord?” The priest asks as he stares at Damien sitting across from him.
“I’m running out of patience, Raul. Why is this taking so long? Are you doing anything about it at all?” Alpha Damien asks with anger resounding in his voice. His head is already getting messed at the thought of her, his heart is getting hurt realizing that he’s having this feeling toward her, and he’s mad at himself that he can’t even control himself. Yes, he’s seeing the red flags, he knows what this feeling is, but maybe he’s trying to pretend that it’s not what it really is. He thought that he would be able to get rid of it if he tries to change his thinking, but it seems like with every second that ticks, the feeling has become stronger. He can’t let this continue, letting himself fall in love with the daughter of a traitor has never been what he dreamt of, this only happens in movies and book series, and to think that it’s happening in his life, that’s a plot twist anyone would never expect to happen.
“My lord, you just have to be patient. Everything will fall in place very soon…”
“How soon is that? This is what you have been saying to me, you need to find the solution to this whole mess, you just have to,” He cuts the priest off in a thunderous voice, and he flinches fearfully.
“For… forgive me, my lord…”
“I don’t care how you’re going to do it, but I give you two weeks to do this, or you’ll see the other side of me,” And with that, he stands up and ambles out of his chambers, slamming the door behind him…
Later in the evening…
“What is wrong with you, Damien? What has come over you?” He questions himself as he stares up at the sky, biting his bottom lip.
‘It hurts! I’m dying. I can’t breathe, son’ recalling the painful cries of his father, his fingers slowly clenches around the rail as a drop of tears slid down his cheeks. That is the most horrible experience of his life, the cries of his father, and the pain in his eyes before he passed away, are still hard to get off his memory even after so many years.
‘We’ll find whoever did this to father, and make him or she pay for everything’ is the promise he made to his brother. Recalling everything, he feels disappointed in himself for his actions now. His father will be mad at him wherever he is now.
“My lord…” Still lost in thought, his heart suddenly skips a beat as the sweetest voice pulls him back to reality. It’s Cassie.
“I want to be alone. Leave me,” More tears stream down his cheeks as he stares at the beautiful stars. He is trying everything not to look at her, knowing that he won’t be able to control himself.
“Uhm… I’m sorry for what happened. I… didn’t mean to…”
“I told you to leave me alone, Cassie!” He thunders as he finally turns around to face her, his face burning with so much anger as he clenches his fists, and she takes a step back seeing the angry look on his face.
“What do you want from me? Why are you here? I didn’t send for you, did I?” He yells at her again.
“For… forgive me, my lord. I was… I was… I was…” She bites her lip as tears trickle down her cheeks. She has nothing to say, or maybe she’s too scared to say anything. She has been scolded so many times by her father, but the sadness and pain she feels now are way more than the ones she felt whenever her father scolded her. Maybe this is how it feels like to be scolded by the one you love.
“Get out! I told you to get away from me. Get out of here!” He thunders again, pointing in the exit direction. Her heartthrob in pain as she slowly turns around and hobbles out of the garden, tears streaming down her cheeks.
He stares at her until she’s out of his sight, and he slowly clenches his fists as more tears stream down his cheeks. For some reason, he feels so hurt to see her in that condition. He’s just trying to keep her away from him, maybe this feeling will fade away if he keeps his distance, and maybe he will be fine again, but his heart keeps yearning for her.
“Argh!” He screams out his lungs as he clenches his fists. Maybe screaming will help relieve this pain in his heart, and maybe crying his eyes out will relieve him of the pain, but what if it doesn’t work?
In the garden…
Cassie storms inside the garden and crashes to the floor as she cries her eyes out in pain. Recalling how he talked to her back there hurts her deeply, and she can’t hide how she feels.
‘Damien doesn’t do maids, and even if he does, he will never stoop so love to having anything with the daughter of a traitor like you. Never forget who you are’ recalling Astrid’s words again, she scoffs painfully as she stands up to her feet.
“You are so stupid, Cassie. You’re so stupid for thinking that you have a chance with him. What is wrong with you? Have you forgotten who you are? Have you forgotten that you’re going to die by his hand sooner or later? How could you be so stupid to have fallen in love with him? Your father is his enemy, don’t you know that?” She cries out loudly and laughs dryly afterward.
“But it wasn’t my fault that I like him, right? He… he made me like him… he made me fall in love with him with all the things he does to me. How could I have held myself? It’s not my fault, right? Yes, we don’t have control of our feelings, that’s how they say, right? It’s totally not my fault, I know that,” she clutches her head tightly, trying to rip her hair off her head.
“It’s not your fault… Life is just so unfair,” Kai’s voice interrupts her, and she snaps her head to see him standing behind her. Is he always everywhere?
Without thinking twice, she turns around and crashes on his body, hugging him tightly as she cries on his chest. This is what she needs right now, a hug to comfort her. Maybe she’ll be fine after she cries in someone’s arms…
