“How much do you love him?” Kai asks her, and she sighs deeply. She has stopped crying already, and they’re now sitting together in the garden while staring at the river.
“I… I don’t know,” She whispers and bites the bottom of her lip.
“Damien… You should give him some time. Maybe he’s going through something sad now and needs some time to heal, OK? I’m sure he will come around,” Kai assures her, and she nods her head. Seeing someone who loves his dear friend so much makes him happy, and he can’t help wishing that he realizes how much this girl loves him, and maybe make her his forever.
“He hates me. I am the seed of a traitor, he won’t ever look at me the way I see him,” A drop of tears slid down her cheeks, and she smiles painfully.
“You’ll be fine, OK? Come here,” he pulls her into his arms and hugs her warmly.
“Cassie…” Zoey’s voice suddenly distracts them, and she quickly pulls away from Kai.
“Zoey…” She calls as she stands up to her feet and turns to see her dear friend walking over to her.
“Where have you been? You got me scared. Are you OK? Did the alpha do anything to you? Why do you look so pale? Do you need me to make you some herb?” She questions worriedly, examining her body.
“I’m fine, Zoey. I just came here to get some fresh air. Oh right, how did you know that I’m here?” She asks surprisingly.
“I perceived your scent when coming. Come on, let’s go to the room already, you look tired, and it’s cold out here,” Zoey nudges her arm.
“You should go with her,” Kai finally speaks up for the first time since Zoey walked inside the garden. Zoey who didn’t know that Kai was there all along, finally snaps her head to look at the person that just talked, and her mouth drops open in shock. Her heart suddenly starts beating rapidly as she finds herself staring at him nonstop. She feels as if something is drawing her close to him.
“Are you OK?” Cassie’s voice disrupts her, and she quickly turns her gaze away.
“Ye… yes… Greetings, my lord,” she finally greets Kai.
“Greetings to you. Please take good care of Cassie, and make sure that she gets enough sleep,” He says to Zoey, and she just nods her head.
“Hey, make sure you’re fine, OK? Get some good sleep, and don’t forget to put a smile on that pretty face. Bye,” He smiles warmly at Cassie, while ruffling her hair softly, and she returns the smile.
“Bye-bye,” And with that, he strides out of the garden.
Zoey stares at him until he’s out of sight, her mouth is hanging open.
“Hey, what’s that?” Cassie’s voice disrupts her, and she snaps her head back to look at her.
“Do you know who he is? Oh my God, my friend is now becoming famous,” Zoey cups her cheeks and whines dramatically.
“What are you saying?”Cassie pulls a confused look.
“That man, he’s Kai Xander, alpha Damien’s beta,” Cassie’s eyes slowly widen in disbelief and her mouth drops open.
“Huh?” She finally exclaims surprisingly, pulling a surprised look. How’s that even possible? He doesn’t look like he holds any position in the pack, he’s humble and friendly, he can’t possibly be the beta, right?
“I heard he’s alpha Damien’s childhood friend, and he’s the only one the alpha does listen to,” Zoey further says, and she slowly nods her head. She still finds it difficult to believe what she just heard. An idea suddenly pops up in her head, and she smiles. Now that she knows that Kai is close to Damien, she feels like he’ll be able to help her out.
“How close is he with the alpha?” She suddenly asks, and Zoey pulls a questioning look.
“They’re close enough to know each other’s secrets, I guess. They have been together all their lives,” Zoey further explains, and she slowly nods her head.
“Why are you blushing?” Zoey’s eyes narrow.
“What? I’m not blushing,” She rolls her eyes, as she saunters to the door.
“Wait for me, you can’t leave me here,” Zoey rushes over to her, and they both exit the garden…
Hours later…
Cassie has been tossing on the bed for almost two hours now, but she can’t still get herself to sleep, no matter how much she tries to. The thoughts of alpha Damien keep running through her mind, and she can’t get herself to stop thinking about him. She knows she shouldn’t be feeling this way, knowing that sooner or later he will still be the end of her, but she can’t help it.
She sighs briefly as she sits up on the bed, and glances at Zoey that is already fast asleep beside me. Maybe taking a walk won’t be a bad idea.
She finally stands up from the bed and stride to the door. She pulls it open carefully so as not to wake Zoey up.
The cold gentle breeze welcomes her as soon as she steps into the hallway, and she takes a deep breath while having a smile on her face. She feels so refreshed by the breeze, and her head lightens a bit. Turns out that coming out wasn’t a bad idea in the first place.
“Let’s go rock the night,” She whispers to herself and finally proceeds to walk down the hallway. She has made up her mind not to go far to avoid the story that touches the heart. Of course, she don’t want to be scolded by the alpha again.
After touring the castle for a few minutes, successfully getting past the securities, she finally sneaks inside the alpha’s garden.
Stepping into the garden, the alpha’s sweet scent welcomes her, and she finds herself inhaling it with a deep smile on her face.
“Why’s his scent here? He must be asleep by now, right?” She wonders as she walks farther into the garden, admiring the flowers. This is her first time getting a chance to tour the royal garden all she wants, and it’s worth her admiration.
“What are you doing here?” She stops abruptly as a familiar voice sounds through her ears…
