I tried to grab Benlyam’s face to focus him back on me, “hey, Lyam, stop,” I called him softly. He glanced down at me his eyes softening before glaring back at Zachary. I focused on our bond to calm him down as I hugged into him.
“Get out,” he ordered and I released him as he headed to Scott to grab our crying children.
Zachary rolled his eyes and started walking away, the sound of the door slamming followed. That bothered the twins.
I walked out to the living room as Benlyam snatched his children from Scott’s arms.
“I’ll go fo-” Scott started.
“I don’t fucking care,” Benlyam growled and I saw our pups scrunched-up red faces. I frowned as Benlyam sat down, trying to calm them.
I held out my hands and he gave me Layton, I quickly put him against my chest as I whispered some words to him. I heard the door close and sat beside Benlyam who was focused on Lana but still pissed.
“Shh, Lana, I’m sorry baby. Daddy didn’t mean to yell,” he whispered to her as he grabbed her hand.
I frowned and looked at Layton, slightly rocking him, and often pressing kisses to his head as I brushed his baby locks.
“Layton, you’re okay,” I hugged him into me. Lana quieted first and Layton was still crying his lungs out as Benlyam wrapped his free arm around my shoulders and I leaned into him. Lana was passed out on his chest.
Layton was still fussing. “My sweet boy, you’re okay,” I kissed him and he took the opportunity to grab my hair. I frowned at him but he calmed down.
“That’s my boy,” Benlyam praised lightly, amused.
I smiled up at Benlyam and leaned in, sharing a soft, warm kiss. When we pulled back, Layton had fallen asleep in my arms, his hand limply holding onto my hair that I carefully exchanged with my finger instead.
“I’m sorry, Flower. You know I’d never hurt you ever again. It pissed me off when Zach acts like that,” he let out.
“It’s fine, Bee,” I kissed him, “he wasn’t being very nice, it’s understandable. Maybe he’s extra moody because he’s away from his mate?”
He kissed my forehead. “And that’s why he doesn’t get to hold our pups,” he rolled his eyes and I chuckled.
We stayed down for a few more moments before I put the twins in a cot that was down in the living room.
“I have to go to the pack house real quick, I’m seeing Milan and we’ll come over soon,” Benlyam kissed my head and I nodded.
“You won’t be long?” I asked, slightly apprehensive because I didn’t want to be alone. Separation anxiety, he knew that before I did and always knew how to help.
“No,” he shook his head and kissed me before he left. I glanced at the twins before walking back into the kitchen to finish preparing some ingredients.
I was alone with my thoughts just running amuck and I wasn’t too focused on anything at all. Sage stirred in me and I ignored it, she was probably just still bothered about how I handled the Zachary and Benlyam situation.
I turned to the sink when I heard the door open.
“Back!” I heard Zachary shout as he went upstairs.
I went back to my own thing by washing the fruits and vegetables, I swore I heard the door again but when I looked over, I saw no one. I heard one of the twins- Lana to be exact- start to fuss. Sage started to scratch inside me, irked.
I was confused.
( ‘Pups! Pups!’ )
… What?…
( ‘Pups! Get them!’ )
I furrowed my brows and I quickly put the stuff aside as I walked out to the living room, hearing some small fussing. I immediately screamed.
Standing with my Lana in their hands was Mara with a huge needle. My baby’s face was scrunched up, trying to get out of her arms. My heart dropped, alarm bells were ringing in my mind.
Mara turned towards me, her eyes blazing with a disgusting malicious intent. I needed time to stop, I couldn’t handle this. No, no. Just stop. Everything. Please. Sage was so close to coming out but I was frozen in fear. She could hurt my baby!! Ours.
“Stop,” I whispered and took a small step forward. I glanced down at Layton who was still in the crib.
“Uh-uh,” she tsked and I flinched, my eyes were trained on Lana’s uncomfortable face. “You were never supposed to have kids, Violet,” she spat. “You were never supposed to be born. You shouldn’t even be alive, a mistake. I could care less what your father says, I don’t care about you. You’re a problem.” She waved the needle in front of me and I seriously thought about just jumping at her throat right then and there.
But, I had to be smart. My child was in her arms and she had a sharp object and dark intentions. That’s what Benlyam would do, he always uses his brain and it was helpful.
I swallowed and took a microscopic step towards the cot.
“This,” she waved the needle and I took another step, my hand was itching to grab Layton. “Is a very special drug, I would tell you, but I’m not here to talk to someone like you,” she sneered and I reached my hand out and swiftly grabbed Layton.
She smirked, glaring at Layton. “I could care less about what you do, you couldn’t do anything. What’s important is, doses as big as this, it’s lethal.”
My heart dropped. I felt my throat close up.
… Sage! I don’t know what to do!…
( ‘Mate is coming!’ )
… I don’t have time to fucking wait!…
“Especially with an infant,” she taunted and put the needle on my baby’s arm. I let out a yelp.
“No! No, no, no, please!” I screamed, tears hiding in the back of my throat.
Everything happened so fast and I hated it. I felt so goddamn useless but I ended up acting anyways. I pulled the cot back and laid Layton in it, even though it hurt my heart, I had to use my brain.
