When I woke up, Violet was still sleeping. I naturally kissed her forehead and looked over at the twins. Layton was staring off to oblivion- awake, grabbing his feet.
Just looking at him made me happy.
( ‘Pups. I love them, precious.’ )
I had to slip my arm from Violet’s sleeping position- making sure she didn’t wake up because she needed her rest. The twins wore her out more than she wanted to admit.
But, Violet was a light sleeper. Habit from trauma.
“It’s fine, Flower, go back to bed.” I kissed her cheek lightly and she took a deep breath before turning and opening her honey eyes. She blinked at me a few times- waking up.
“Morning,” she muttered and I smiled at her.
“Good morning, honey.” I leaned down to kiss her forehead and her hand grasped my shirt.
“Why are you up?” she asked lightly and then looked over at the crib- seeing Layton was up. “Oh.” She went to sit up but I pushed her shoulders back gently.
“I got him, go back to bed, Flower,” I gave her another kiss.
She looked like she wanted to argue with me but her drowsiness won, and she relaxed and turned back around- falling asleep.
I did my business for the day quickie, changing and whatever before walking back out to Layton. I was going to wake-up Lana as well- to keep them on a schedule as I preach to Violet- but I didn’t want to bother her.
Hypocritical.
I waited until the door was closed behind me to talk.
“Good morning, Lay. You’re up early,” he giggled up at me as I took him into the nursery to change him.
He kept finding anything to grab which wasn’t helpful when I was dressing and changing him- he just kept laughing.
“You think this is funny, Lay?” I asked as I grabbed his fist and he giggled again. “Yeah? Waking up this early?”
He cooed at me as I picked him up and started heading towards the office.
“Early start on Alpha duties, Layton? Learning from your daddy?” he started up at me, excited and I smiled at him, opening the door.
I’ve been waking up a little earlier to do some work because the twins took up time- not that I had a problem with it. Not at all. I just had to find a way to balance my duties and my family.
Of course, my Flower still did her part and I appreciated it but- whatever. More work didn’t do harm.
“Layton, where should we start?” I asked as if he would verbally respond. He just looked around at my desk- curious.
“Usually, I check my emails,” I started up my computer as Layton turned back to me, grabbing one of the buttons at the top of my sweater. “Or we play with buttons, whatever we’re in the mood for.”
He tried to put it in his mouth but I grabbed him.
“But, we don’t eat buttons. I should’ve let your mom feed you before,” I shook my head and he reached for my fingers to put in his mouth. “We don’t really do that either, Lay.”
I situated him so his back was against my chest and he was sitting in my lap- with my support.
I explained some things to him while he teethed on one of his toys I kept in the office- for moments like this. I knew he wouldn’t remember what I saw saying but I didn’t care- I liked the bonding.
He was just chilling on me, teething away. It was early, but that’s Alpha inheritance right there. Violet wasn’t a fan of teething- according to her it made her ‘very uncomfortable’ which I understood. He was also fussing more and she hated when they cried.
Sometimes she couldn’t get Layton to quiet down and she got so stressed- she wanted to cry. Layton was a very loud baby, he didn’t care. Lana was easy.
“And- Layton, when you become Alpha- they’ll probably call you your surname. It’s nice, better- however, don’t tell mom because she doesn’t like that idea,” at the term ‘mom’ he looked up at me, curious.
“Mini Derek,” I rubbed his head and he leaned into my hand. “You’re cute, future heartbreaker,” I closed my email and pulled out some documents when there was a knock on my door.
Violet proceeded in, carrying Lana and a cup of coffee- she amazes me. She gave a warm smile and I copied her expression. I missed her.
She set the cup on my desk and gave me a kiss. She picked up Layton who started to giggle when he saw her- stopping his enjoyment with his toy.
“Hey, Flower,” I kissed her again then bopped Lana on her nose.
“Bee,” she smiled and took an empty seat to nurse out pups. I picked up the cup of coffee she brought me and I took a sip while silently working.
I didn’t like coffee at all, I hated it for a while. One day she brought me some coffee because that’s just how she is and I didn’t have the heart to tell her otherwise. I’m growing on it. Coffee with honey- her specialty.
Made my life a whole lot better, I couldn’t ask for more. She made me complete. My family.
