Chapter 122 Energetic Anastasia
GOLD PACK
Jovy doubted if she would ever be able to keep up with Anastasia’s energy who had knocked on the door as early as 7:00 a. m to get her ready for their intended shopping. She had thought it was a joke, until Anastasia started hurrying her up to get dressed on time. She didn’t even let her eat anything in form of breakfast before leaving home.
Her head was spinning at each shop visit and Jovy almost had a purge with the number of times she was subjected to changing outfits. Their purchase was so much that it couldn’t fit into the car and they had to ask for every shop bag to be dropped at the pack house through the shops delivery vans.
When they eventually settled at an open restaurant, she was practically out of breath but the setting of the space made Jovy forgive all of Anastasia’s trespasses against her morning routine. The aesthetic of the space was mind soothing and coupled with nature’s gift of palm trees with their green fronds on the sideline. Jovy let out a long breath after inhaling deeply.
“This place is beautiful.” She said her first full proper sentence for the day with no pressure.
Anastasia nodded gleefully. “Yes, it’s amazing. It has been opened for a year now and I keep saying I would come visit but the twins hardly give me any time to myself.”
“You don’t look anything like a mother of two.” Jovy complimented.
Anastasia laughed. “Girl, I know right! Ignore my silliness, thanks for that compliment. You look so beautiful too. And you are an exact miniature of uncle Marcel.” She laughed softly.
Jovy blushed,.”Aunt Nadia said it too.”
“I know you must have gotten tired of hearing this, but I am really glad to finally have someone like you to talk to.”
“Why?” Jovy couldn’t help but ask.
“I didn’t get along much with anyone while I was growing up. I was shy and mostly kept to myself. The only person I chose as a friend was Xavier.” At the mention of his name, her pupils dilated giving an odd expression. “You know what? Let’s talk about something else. So, how was your life before now?”
“Hectic, terrific, traumatic. Those are the major words to describe it.” A chuckle escaped Jovy’s lips, surprised at how bold she sounded. Never had she been able to talk about her past life with the exact words.
Anastasia sat up, mouthing a thank you to the waiter who brought their order. “Do you mind sharing?”
Jovy sipped on her sweet wine. “I will cut it short. I got treated badly by my supposed father because I wasn’t his and then I got gifted out to most ruthless person I have ever met all my life, Alpha Logan of Mystic Shadow Fortress.”
A loud gasp escaped Anastasia’s lips. “You don’t mean it?! I have heard awful things about him, how in the world will they do that to you? Is this even true?”
“Sounds absurd right? But it’s my truth. I came down to Gold pack as an escape from him and everything else that almost ruined me. But it’s all gone now. And I really don’t want to talk about him ever again, can you please keep this to yourself?”
She nodded. “Sure, I would keep it to myself. I promise. You have endured so much all your life just because of your father’s negligence and stubbornness. I am sorry on his behalf.”
Jovy sighed. “In actual truth, Anastasia, I don’t know how I feel just yet. It’s all still new and judging by everything that I have been faced with I am scared of what this place might make of me.”
Anastasia pulled at Jovy’s hand. “I promise, I will be by your side. I feel like we would become best of friends.”
“Alice and Arlo would have a fit if they hear that.” She mused.
“Who are they?”
“My friends. I have only been able to survive the rough road all because of them.”
“I would love to meet them. They would need to give me some room.” Anastasia laughed.
Jovy giggled. “You are something else. I think we would go a long way together, I feel safe with you already.”
“I am glad you do.”
They both kept mute chewing on their food gently until Jovy cleared her throat. “On this note Anastasia, I know this might seem too early to be meddling but what exactly went wrong between you and Xavier if he was once a good friend of yours?”
Anastasia clicked her teeth, contemplating on how much information she should let out. “He was everything, I almost thought we would get married. Xavier had a strange personality to him…more like he grew up odd and acted different. I don’t want you to think I am trying to paint him wrongly. I have a feeling you will figure it out with time.”
Jovy didn’t understand anything from her explanation, instead it sounded more like a parable but she didn’t try to probe it any further.
“Alright, would be sure to keep my eyes and ears open.”
“You don’t have to worry, I will be here. Oh my goodness!” Anastasia exclaimed as she checked her wristwatch. “We have to return now, my kids would have started throwing tantrums because they can’t find me.”
And she was right, the little boys were throwing a fit screaming for their mother. Seeing how Anastasia’s face light up at the sight of them and the boys holding onto her like their entire life depended on it, made Jovy’s heart ache and her hand instinctively went to her belly. She thought of how nice it would have been if her child was alive but then the right thing had to be done. It would be of no use if she had died and there won’t be another chance to birth another child. She felt a pat on her shoulder, turning around slowly Jovy’s eyes met with Nadia’s.
“Please, can you come with me?” Nadia asked.
Jovy nodded in approval. “Sure.”
The both of them went into the study. Jovy awed at the largeness of the space with tons of book in it. It looked like a mini public library, she can almost guess that there would be any genre in the shelves.
“Arlo said you love to cook. I asked for cookbooks to be put in place, just incase you get bored and need to get your hands busy. Even though I can assure you the pack duties will keep you really busy.”
Jovy smiled lightly, walking towards the shelf and running her hands through them. No matter how busy she get, she would definitely find a way to do some major cooking. Collecting herself, she sat down opposite Nadia.
“Jovy, I know this might be too overwhelming for you but we really don’t have much time to waste. The moment you get installed as the Luna, you would be expected to get married as soon as possible. You know before your discovery, Xavier had been thought to be the next Alpha. However, the real heir which is you came along. I am not saying we have to compensate him by getting involved with you, but I just want you to see him in that light. He is a sweet and caring kid. He would definitely make you happy. Also, I know Anastasia might be feeding you with awful things about him. Just ignore her and get to know him better.”
A blush crept up Jovy’s cheeks as she scratched at her hair. Somehow, she has been getting drawn towards Xavier which felt good and scary at the same time. It is good because she isn’t still hung up on Logan. And scary because the last time she loved someone on her own, she had brought trouble to herself.
“I would keep that in mind, Aunt. I and Xavier haven’t really talked much so I will like to take it one step at a time.”
“Of course, my dear. Take as much time as you need. Time is all that you have.”
“Thanks so much.”
“Thank you too, darling.”
Jovy excused herself and exited the study, leaving Nadia to her thoughts. She hopes by the time of the installment as Luna, she would be free to return to her care free life that doesn’t involve the major happenings within and outside the pack house. No doubt she has fulfilled her earthly promise to her brother. She deserves some break too.
