Chapter 119 True Luna
GOLD PACK
Jovy stared in awe at the exquisite design of the pack house. She had been hearing discussions among the restaurant customers of how rich the pack is in general but it didn’t really occur to her in how much they might be worth until now. The entire space screamed of luxury.
Arlo whistled behind the wheels. “What in the world do these people do for a living? I was always certain no pack comes close to Mystic Shadow Fortress but with the look of this exterior, I am betting my entire savings that it’s far better than uncle Logan’s fortress house.”
Jovy stiffened at the mention of Logan’s name. She still hasn’t gotten over him just yet. She gave a weak smile not wanting to put Arlo in a fix. “Yeah, I would have never imagined it to be this way.” She muttered, looking around.
“Let’s get our asses inside then.” He joked, unlocking the car.
Jovy felt her heart inside her mouth. The day was finally here as she had promised Nadia she would come. She could only breathe fairly because Arlo was with her. Alice would have joined them but she has something important to do with her mother back at the pack. Amelia on the other hand was at work. She wasn’t certain what she might be faced with and most importantly to not get rejected by the pack council. Her heart palpitated at the thought of having to go through another rejection. Jovy felt a warm hand hold on to her sweaty palm.
Arlo blinked slowly at her. “Breath.” He whispered.
She did just as told and followed him inside as led by a guard. It appears every member of the pack house had been informed of her coming. The interior was even more luxurious than Jovy would have imagined. From the chandeliers to the carpets and every other furniture occupying the foyer screamed wealth. Whoever her father was, he must have had tons of money.
Nadia walked towards them from another door with a bright smile on her face. “I’m so glad you are here, Jovy. It’s due time. Thanks for coming along with her, Arlo. It would make her feel more comfortable.” Arlo smiled in return. “Please come with me, the other members of the pack council are all waiting for you.” She said, ushering the two of them towards the door she had stepped out from.
Jovy’s eyes automatically lingered on the ground when she did a quick check of the curious eyes staring at her sitting round a large table. One of them who appears to be the youngest with his piercing blue eyes watched her intensely. Sitting her butt gently on the chair, she held onto Arlo’s hand for support.
Nadia called the attention of everyone before keeping up with her words. “It’s nice to have everyone seated here. Thank you so much for honoring the dead Alpha’s invitation and mine too. I don’t want to pull this discussion too long, so I will jump right into the introduction. Jovy, please stand up.” Jovy stood rigidly, trying to hold up an awkward smile. “This is Jovy, the only child of Marcel Brown who is my brother.”
Beta Harry stood up. “You are welcome, Luna. I am sure your father would feel blissful at your arrival. We have been waiting for this moment for so long.”
Xavier gritted his teeth as he sat still, the words of Nadia and Harry hunting him. Every attempt he made to not stare at Jovy was fruitless. She was the exact miniature of Marcel and anyone who doubts it definitely needs some medicated glass. He would be foolish to counter it.
Smiling widely, Nadia rubbed at Jovy’s back seeing how much of a nervous wreck she was. To avoid a break down, she gestured to her to sit but Jovy refused by shaking her head. Arlo had a proud grin on his face.
“I will like to address everyone.” Jovy said in a shaky breath.
Nadia nodded in approval. “Of course.” She said.
Jovy cleared her throat and folded her hands in front of her. “My name is Jovy Finlay. Finlay being the name of my adoptive father. I never knew he wasn’t my father until few months ago. Since my mother had died when I was four, I doubted the chance of ever getting to know who my father is.” She inhaled. “My point is, I didn’t come here to claim a spot that I know nothing about just because of the idea of becoming Luna. According to Aunt Nadia here, it’s a duty nature has bestowed on me which is why I am seeking for all of your support to be able to scale through every hurdles. Thank you.”
A loud clap followed her speech and Jovy had to walk round the table to shake everyone. Arlo looked on like a proud father. The both of them had a deep discussion before making their way to the pack house. Arlo had made Jovy understand that she had to take the bull by the horns and not let anyone trample upon her like they have done in the past.
At first he had been worried she might never be able to say a piece of her mind, however, she had blown his mind away by being true to herself. And from the look of things, every member of the pack council seem pleased except the youngest amongst them who seems to be having conflicting thoughts with the way he folded and unfolded his hand.
Jovy went back to her seat, Arlo couldn’t hold back any longer and pulled her into a hug. “You just did me proud.”
“Thank you.” She whispered back teary eyed.
The meeting dispersed after an agreement had been made on when Jovy would be introduced to the members of the pack. They said their goodbyes, leaving Nadia, Xavier, Arlo and Jovy in the foyer.
Nadia turned to Jovy. “Jovy meet Xavier, he is your father’s adopted son. Xavier meet Jovy.” She made a quick introduction.
The both of them shook hands and stared at each other for a prolonged minute. Arlo noticing the exchange, he cleared his throat and Jovy took a step back.
“Oh, pardon me. Meet my very good friend, Arlo.” Jovy said.
“Nice to meet you.” Arlo nodded at Xavier. There was an extremely awkward silence which he found tiring and had to break. “Shouldn’t we head back now, Jovy?” He asked.
“Sure.” Jovy responded. “Thank you so much Nadia and Xavier for having me here.”
“When would you return here?” Xavier asked. It’s his first full sentence since Jovy arrived.
“Jovy, I am hoping you would return here next week since you would be officially inducted as the Luna.” Nadia replied on her behalf.
Jovy nod absentmindedly. “No problem, I would let you know if I have a change of heart.” She said.
“That room felt like a trip to wonderland just about literally though.” Arlo noted as they drove back to Jovy’s house.
“I don’t know if this is right, Arlo. I don’t even know if I am going to do anything right.” Jovy mumbled.
“No one is asking you to act right. Just do what is expected of you.”
“Isn’t it the same thing?”
“Stop overthinking it and focus on the present. Also, just a piece of my mind, that guy named Xavier appears fake to me.”
Jovy groaned inwardly. “How would you know that from meeting him for the first time?”
“I am sorry if this sounds insulting but my wolf could sniff him. On the other hand, you can’t even sniff shit with your wolf.”
“Thanks for reminding me of my flaw. That is so nice of you.”
“Whichever way, Jovy I care about you and I am sure you know that. This is an entirely new part for you and there is a need for you to be wary of those around you. They are new people with different hidden characters which might overwhelm you. Since I might not be able to come around like I usually did at the fortress, I need you to be as diplomatic as you can. Remember, don’t let anyone take advantage of you.”
Tears lingered in Jovy’s eyes as she stared straight ahead. “Now, you are really making it seem like we might never get to see each other again.”
“You know that would be in the next life. I am sticking with you till the end. I just need to start accepting that my favorite person would become the Luna of this prestigious pack and she might not have my time as always.”
“Shut up!” She giggled.
“Sure, Luna.” He teased, the two of them laughing their heads off as they drove through the busy road.
