Chapter 117 Feeling Betrayed
GOLD PACK
Nadia returned to the pack house feeling elated about her meeting with Jovy. The children were delightful and she felt alive in their midst. Jovy was sweet as honey and very respectful. She definitely suits the post of the Luna. On her way back, she had texted Beta Harry and the rest of the pack council for a late evening meeting.
They were all seated in the hall attached to the study for private meetings like that. Anxiety got the best of her as she moved towards the empty seat. Xavier had an eager look on his face cause the both of them haven’t gotten to talk much for a while.
“What’s going on aunt? Why did you summon an urgent meeting?” Beta Harry asked.
Nadia cleared her throat. “Do you all remember the day Marcel got buried?” They all nodded. “The reason I have been away for so long was because I went to find Marcel’s child and the rightful heir to the throne.”
Xavier’s heart stopped at the announcement. He had never for once thought about Marcel and Danielle having a child without his knowledge. He couldn’t believe that his attainment of the throne would be threatened by the actual heir.
“What are you talking about?” He asked in a solemn voice.
“What is all of this, Nadia?” Beta Harry inquired.
The entire room was bubbling with murmurs with each person whispering to the other on what the new development was about. Nadia inhaled as she stood up to have a better view of every face in the room. “Right before Marcel’s death, he asked me to look for his child who carries the Alpha mark.”
“Marcel has a child? Was that why you called to ask how it looked like?” Beta Harry asked.
Nadia nodded in confirmation. “I have found her and she is just as Marcel as described. She has the Alpha mark, our signature eyes and wolf. She is a miniature of Marcel.” She said, placing the pictures and letters that Marcel had handed to her in the middle of the table.
“It’s a girl child?” One of the members asked.
Another pack council member picked it up and passed it on to the others. Everyone stared at it with mixed emotions on their faces.
“Yes. She is a female. And I have invited her over to the pack house. She would be coming around in two days time to meet with you all.” Nadia exhaled as she turned to Xavier. “Son, I really do hope you aren’t having doubts about my intention towards you. This was what the late Alpha wanted, which is exactly in relation to the tradition of the pack.”
Xavier gripped his knee tightly as he forced himself to hold up a forced smile. “Sure, I understand.”
Beta Harry stood up to address the room. “This is such a good news. We had thought the throne would end up in the hands of an adopted fellow.” He threw an obvious shade at Xavier. Harry had never really liked Xavier cause he thinks Xavier is shady. “Now that we know we have a heir, our minds can finally be at peace.”
Everyone nodded in agreement mumbling a congratulatory message to one another. Everyone loved Marcel while he was alive and are truly happy that he did birth a child before his death. Xavier was the only one trying to keep his cool and if he stayed any longer he might burst up in flames. He excused himself real quickly while the others got immersed in a conversation. He ran out of the pack house and headed straight to the woods. His wolf let itself out with a howl crying in despair. He ran through the woods with every of his strength.
The thought of being overlooked by everyone and seen as the underdog after he had paraded himself around as the next in line to the throne made him more angrier. He tried to calm his breath while pushing through the hard shrubs of the woods. He could hear Savannah trying to reach out to him through the mind portal but he shut her off trying to reason on his own.
Right in front of him everything he had worked for would be taken away after putting up with Harry’s sorry ass for so long. He growled loudly, digging his claws into the depth of the earth and he ran round in circles for as long as he deemed fit.
After exhausting himself, Xavier returned to the pack house feeling extremely tired. He ordered one of the guards close to the entrance to get him a change of cloth and a bottle of vodka. He sat by the water fountain reminiscing on the moments he shared with Marcel by the spot when he was younger.
Nadia stared at his slouched back from the entrance. Harry snorted as he stood next to her. “He has got the nerve to feel betrayed. How can he comfortably claim the throne as his?”
Nadia rolled her eyes at her friend’s pettiness. She sighed. “Why are you being so harsh with your words? What has Xavier ever done to you?”
Harry pocketed both of his hands. “He isn’t exactly who you think he is. Why are you so blinded to see his dark side?”
“I think you and Anastasia have a problem with trusting people. I have watched over Xavier since he was a child and he has been nothing short of sweet.”
“Keep fooling yourself. I will take my leave now.” Beta Harry scoffed. He walked off to his car.
Inhaling deeply, Nadia made her way towards Xavier. He had the vodka bottle in his mouth gulping its content like his entire life depended on it.
“Easy, son.” Nadia muttered, snatching it gently away from him. Xavier stared into the dark night not saying a word. “Xavier, what’s the matter?”
Keeping mute for a brief second, he scoffed in irritation. “Are you really asking me what is wrong?” He asked giving her a dead look.
Nadia gulped. “I…I…I-”
“There is nothing for you to say. I should have known something was fishy when you left the pack house for an unsaid trip and came back acting weird. Why didn’t you just tell me from the beginning? I wouldn’t have kept my hopes up. You have made it clear to me that I am not a true blood of the Brown family and I can never be. Thanks for making it super clear.” He retorted.
“Why would you even think that? I didn’t know Marcel had a child until his last days. And I had to look for her-”
“I don’t want to hear your explanation.” Xavier cut her short. “I knew from the beginning that I would be discriminated for being adopted. I am so disappointed in dad! Cause how could he hide such a thing from me and had me parading myself like I mattered. Do you know how many people would make fun of me? You just soiled my entire life!”
“Stop it, Xavier! What is wrong with you? Marcel and Danielle loved you to death and they would never think of you less. You were always a light to their darkness. Why would you talk awfully about your parents all for a throne?!”
Nadia was beginning to lose her patience. She wasn’t comfortable with how Xavier resulted to throwing tantrums. One would think he would understand the situation of things and act matured but instead he chose to act otherwise.
Feeling exhausted, Xavier sat back down trying to keep the treacherous tears from falling. “I am sorry for talking back at you.” He apologized.
“It’s alright, son. I just need you to know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.” She said.
“What do you mean?” He asked.
Nadia licked lips as she held Xavier’s gaze. “You can still become Alpha by getting married to the incoming Luna.” She announced.
“You can make that happen?” Xavier inquired with a shaky voice.
“Jovy is single and so are you.”
Xavier made a mental note in his head about her assertion. Everyone has turned a blind eye to his relationship with Savannah which makes it hard for him to acknowledge her.
Nadia kept talking when he didn’t counter her. “You are the only one I can trust to be a part of her life. She appears to be a sweet girl. And have it at the back of your mind that you will become Alpha if things goes well with her. Alright?”
Xavier tried to hold up a smile as he shook his head lightly. Savannah would definitely burn the whole pack to ashes.
