Chapter 113 The Journey
GOLD PACK
FEW MONTHS LATER
Nadia sighed tiredly as she looked out the window of the restaurant. She glanced at her wristwatch again, it’s unlike Anastasia to be late. It has been ten minutes since Nadia arrived to their usual meeting spot and she still hadn’t called to cancel or arrived yet. She was famished and would have ordered but didn’t want to yet until her daughter arrives. The kind waitress that had been assigned to attend to her table came again. Nadia couldn’t help but notice how beautiful she looks.
“Jovy.” Nadia muttered at the tag on the waitress chest. “You have a nice name.” She noted.
Jovy smiled. “Thank you ma’am. Would you like to order now?”
Nadia shook her head. “Not yet, I would like to wait for my daughter to arrive.”
“Alright then, call me when you need me.” Jovy said before turning away.
Nadia caught sight of a dark mark peeping underneath the shirtsleeve Jovy wore but it was so evident. Her thoughts got divided when Anastasia arrived panting hard without the twins, hugging and kissing her briefly. Before Anastasia got to explain herself, Jovy returned to the table and they finally placed their order.
“Where are the twins? And why do you look so disheveled?” Nadia inquired, looking worried.
“I wanted to make it on time to avoid missing you.” Anastasia explained.
“It’s why there is something called a cellphone Anastasia. If you would run late you could have called or texted.”
“Sorry mom.”
“Where are the twins?” Nadia asked again.
“It’s their day out with Lucas. Part of the reason I got late, he is not so good with getting them ready. They all end up messing up the entire house.”
“You were just like the twins too.” Nadia dissed.
“Yeah right but I can be sure I wasn’t as naughty as them.” Anastasia laughed.
“Here you go, sorry for keeping you waiting.” Jovy returned with their orders, placing each person’s own in front of them.
Nadia caught sight of the striking familiar mark on Jovy’s arm again and she couldn’t resist the urge to ask. “Is that your birthmark?”
Jovy nodded as she pulling down her sleeve a bit. “Oh yes it is. Please enjoy your meal.” She smiled lightly.
Anastasia stared at her mother in a funny way. “Why are you so concerned about her mark?”
Nadia shrugged. “It just looks so familiar. I can’t seem to remember where I saw it.”
“That’s okay, tell me how did your trip go? It has been such a long time I saw you mom.”
“I know…baby. I have missed meeting up with you and the twins so much. How are they by the way?”
“Mom, they are fine and they miss you too. You are acting really suspicious, I am really eager to hear everything you have to say. Just spill it already.”
Nadia felt like an actual story teller. “I went to the pack Marcel had mentioned the child’s mother lived, after so much enquiry I got to know that the family the child was in went bonkers months ago and not just that the said child had been married off. I still can’t believe I had to indulge in gossip to know all of the tea.” She huffed.
Anastasia giggled. “It must have been interesting.”
Nadia rolled her eyes. “I promise it was not, don’t even go there.”
“Alright, mama. What did you do next?”
“I took another journey to the Mystic Shadow Fortress where she was married to. Baby, I have never been on a lost journey before only heard of it. I was super lost and confused at the end of it all. I couldn’t get any information about her cause that place is so big you might have to stay there for an entire year to look for someone.”
“That must have been really hard.”
“I am frustrated at this point. And Xavier is obviously getting impatient. I can see it in him but somehow I can feel it in my deep gut that I am closer to her than I think.”
Sipping on her drink, Anastasia smacked her lips. “I am really not surprised at Xavier’s impatience. All of this would unveil the monster beneath.”
Nadia raised a brow. “Can you stop acting so petty? Anyone in Xavier’s shoes, even you would have been done the same.”
“I am definitely sure I won’t act entitled to what isn’t mine or near my existence. He doesn’t even have a royal blood in him.”
“He was adopted by my brother and we have all chosen to love and accept him. Except you of course.”
“Mom.” Anastasia pouted. “Can we just have the day to ourselves and not talk about anything as regards the pack house? It’s boring.”
Nadia laughed at her daughter’s silliness. Anastasia has always been swift with her expressions and wouldn’t know how to keep such thoughts to herself.
When Nadia returned home by evening, her mind kept going back to the familiar scar on the waitress body. It kept her up all night and when she woke up in the middle of the night feeling restless, she headed down to Marcel’s study. There had to be something about the mark that kept drawing her attention.
Searching through the bookshelves she felt frustrated when nothing peculiar came up from her search. Leaning into the chair, she closed her eyes for a moment. Opening her eyes, she checked the time to see that it was almost morning. Staggering back to her room, she picked up her phone to call Beta Harry. Nadia would have never made an attempt at calling a married man so early in the morning, however she had too many important reasons to why she had to call.
‘Nadia, are you okay?’ Was the first sentence uttered by Beta Harry.
‘Harry, I need to ask you something.’ She said. The both of them had grown up together and had been friends for a long time which was why she was on first name basis with him.
‘Alright, let me hear it.’ He replied.
‘What’s the unique mark of the Gold pack heirs?’
‘Why are you asking?’
‘Just answer the damn question!’ She responded feeling cranky. Her lack of sleep was already getting the best of her.
‘Fine, it’s almost a bird like mark not too light and dark. What are you up to, Nadia?’
‘This would only interest you later on. Thanks and sorry for cutting your sleep short.’ Nadia mused sincerely. She grinned to herself, Marcel had been right after all.
Nadia could feel it in her gut that the waitress might be the actual person she was in search of. The only thing she hopes for is that her last hope won’t fail her. If that happens she would have no other choice but to let Marcel’s last wish go.
